I’m planning to buy a new bike - Hero Xpulse 210 or TVS Apache RTX 300. My old Xpulse 200T has a stiffer suspension, and my monthly commute is around 2,000 km, mostly on unpaved roads. Which one would be better?

Both bikes have good suspension and will be quite comfortable on broken roads you may traverse during your commute. The Xpulse 210 will, of course, have a lower performance ceiling compared to the larger Apache RTX 300. However, it will be more affordable to buy and maintain since it’s a simpler and smaller machine.

Considering that the RTX is a brand-new product built on a new platform, we would recommend going with the Xpulse in case any teething issues emerge on the TVS.

It delivers a very sprightly drive. Beyond the engine, both cars have a superb ride and handling balance.

You could go for a smaller but more feature-equipped vehicle or a larger, more powerful but less-equipped vehicle. Of the smaller vehicles within your budget, the Kia Sonet, Kia Syros, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO should be on your shortlist. Among the larger vehicles, the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV700 are worth a look. As for automatic gearbox options, the best pick would be the Kia Sonet diesel GTX+ AT. The refined 1.5-litre diesel engine and smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission work really well together to deliver a premium driving experience. Hyundai also offers the same combo on the new Venue, though you'll need to up your budget to get a feature-equipped model.

Asked by: Srinivas K I bought a Honda City ZX CVT (5th generation) in July 2025. At low RPMs and during stop-and-go traffic, the engine and acceleration noise are quite audible and unpleasant, and the NVH levels feel poor. What can I do to reduce this? Most CVTs suffer from what is called a ‘rubber-band’ effect, where the engine revs rise higher than the speed, which makes the engine sound like it's straining. Honda’s CVT automatic transmission in the City is a belt-driven system and is known to be a bit noisy under hard acceleration, partly because the noise insulation in the Honda City isn’t very good.To be honest, there is not much you can do except drive with a light foot and don’t floor the accelerator to keep the revs down.
