Tata has launched the new Sierra, revealing prices for all trims. The Sierra is about 4.3 metres long and sits between the Curvv and Harrier in Tata’s SUV line-up, placing it in the fiercely competitive midsize SUV segment. Introductory prices start at Rs 11.49 lakh for the base Smart+ variant and go up to Rs 21.29 lakh for the top Accomplished+ trim.

The Sierra rivals the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Citroen Aircross, MG Astor and Skoda Kushaq. It is available with three engine options: a 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with an automatic, a 106hp 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol with manual and dual-clutch automatic options and a 118hp 1.5-litre diesel with manual or automatic choices. We’ve already seen how its specifications stack up against rivals. Now, here’s how the Sierra’s prices compare with those of its rivals:

The Sierra’s starting price is higher than every other NA petrol rival, including the Creta, Elevate and Seltos. Its upper variants also sit near the top of the segment. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Revotron petrol engine is available with a 6-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic. It produces 106hp, slightly lower than Hyundai and Kia’s 115hp, though the torque figure of 145Nm is similar to the Korean rivals’.

Though its pricing is on the steeper side compared to other NA petrol models, Tata says the added features in the base variant help balance the value equation.

The Sierra turbo-petrol is priced above most rivals and sits toward the higher end of the segment. Models like the Seltos and Taigun begin at lower prices, making the Sierra a pricier option in this category. For buyers looking at mid and top turbo variants, the Sierra will come across as one of the costlier choices in the segment.

It gets a 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine making 160hp and 255Nm, paired with a torque-converter automatic. Power figures are similar to the turbo-petrol versions of the Creta, Seltos, Aircross, Taigun GT and Kushaq.

The Sierra’s diesel range starts at Rs 12.99 lakh, which is around Rs 70,000 more than the entry-level Creta and Seltos diesel variants. The top-end Sierra diesel variants too are priced noticeably higher than the Creta and Seltos equivalents.

It uses a 1.5-litre diesel engine that makes 118hp and up to 280Nm, with manual and automatic options. Only the Sierra, Creta and Seltos still offer diesel in this segment, which keeps the Sierra attractive for buyers who drive long distances and want lower running costs.
