I am planning to buy an automatic petrol SUV and am confused between the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7T and the Tata Sierra Accomplished Plus. Please help.
I am planning to buy a new car in April/May with an on-road budget of ₹15-20 lakh. I am confused between the Mahindra 3XO AX7L, Tata Sierra Adventure Plus, and the new Kia Seltos HTX, all with automatic turbo engines. My monthly running will be 400-600 km within Mumbai city, with 4-5 occasional highway trips a year. Since Sierra and Seltos are not yet available for test drives, I am unsure which to choose. Please guide me.
Between the three cars you have shortlisted, the Tata Sierra Adventure Plus is the nicest, especially because of its turbo-petrol engine and torque converter (automatic) combination. Its powertrain will feel smooth, refined and powerful, good for city and highway driving, both.
The Kia Seltos turbo's dual-clutch automatic can feel a bit jerky at low speeds or in bumper-to-bumper traffic conditions. If your usage is mainly in the city, opt for the 1.5L petrol-IVT instead, which is a far smoother option.
Since you have the budget, and don't mind opting for a larger car, we'd rule out the Mahindra XUV 3XO as the Sierra Turbo-AT or Seltos 1.5 Petrol-IVT deliver a more premium overall experience.
Hi, I currently own an XL6 and am planning to upgrade to a car with an ex-showroom budget of ₹24 lakh. I am confused between the top-end Tata Sierra petrol and the Tata Safari Accomplished X+ petrol variant. We are a family of 4 adults and 1 child aged 7, and we go on long trips at least once every two months. Please advise.
I am planning to buy a new car up to ₹17 lakh, with a yearly running of about 12,000 km. I am thinking of the Tata Sierra. Please guide me, as safety and comfort are my priorities.
Yes, the Tata Sierra will meet your requirements of safety and comfort very well. In terms of active safety, the Sierra has good grip around corners and good high-speed stability, too. The safety equipment is also elaborate with 6 airbags, electronic stability program (ESP) and after-impact braking standard across variants.
The Sierra is yet to be tested at either GNCAP or BNCAP; however, Tata Motors says the car is designed for a good rating and given the company's track record, this should be the case. As for comfort, the ride quality is good, and there is ample space inside. The seats, too, are comfy and at the rear, there's enough space for three to be seated in comfort.
I am looking to buy a new petrol turbo car around ₹25 lakh on-road in Bangalore and am confused between the new Kia Seltos and Tata Sierra. I like the design and cabin experience of the Tata Sierra, while the Seltos is strong on aftersales and service. Sierra is generally considered better for safety, although Seltos has also improved safety with its new platform. My top priority is family safety, so I am inclined toward Sierra, but I want to know how significant Tata’s reliability issues are and whether I should instead choose the Seltos.
Your observations are correct. Neither the Tata Sierra nor the Kia Seltos has been crash tested by Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP yet. But Tata Motors cars have had a good track record with these tests. While the Kia Seltos uses an all-new global platform that should be safer than the outgoing model.
Both SUVs feature the latest in active and passive safety features, which should be a reassurance, and thus, on the safety front, you won't be wrong to go with either. As for other factors, the Sierra is certainly the more spacious of the two and edges the Seltos out on comfort as well.
However, in most other areas, it's the Seltos that comes out on top, including, as you have pointed out, after-sales experience. The Sierra is being produced at the ex-Ford plant in Sanand, Gujarat. It is said to have higher manufacturing standards, and the brand has been committed to improving its after-sales service across the country, but the results of that will take some time to show.
I am confused between the Sierra Pure 1.5 NA petrol MT and the Victoris VXI MT/AT. My priorities are safety and reliability, and my annual driving is around 8,000km. I have test-driven the Victoris AT and found it very smooth, but rear-seat headroom and shoulder room felt limited compared to the Sierra. Since the Sierra is a new model, I am unsure about its performance and long-term reliability. Please advise.
My budget is ₹15 lakh, and I’m looking for a comfortable and stylish 5-seater SUV with a slightly premium feel. I was inclined towards the MG Hector, but its on-road price is more than ₹20 lakh. I can wait if any new launches are on the horizon. Is the new Sierra worth considering?
If you are looking for an SUV with a good luxury feel, we would recommend that you look at the compact SUV segment instead of the mid-size market. While you will get mid-size SUVs for under Rs 15 lakh, they will all be the lower variants, which will not look or feel very luxurious.
The best options here would be the Kia Seltos and the Tata Sierra. However, as we mentioned, if you do look at a segment below, you could get a Hyundai Venue, which has a very premium cabin in both look and feel and will be very well equipped too. This is the SUV we would recommend to give you that luxury feel at your price point.
I currently own an i20 and am planning to upgrade to a midsize SUV. I have shortlisted the base variants of the Tata Sierra and Kia Seltos, but I am concerned about power delivery. Between the two, which offers better pickup with a naturally aspirated engine and better value for money?
I want to purchase a new vehicle with a maximum budget of ₹22 lakh. I am slightly confused between the Tata Harrier (diesel), Tata Sierra (diesel), and Tata Safari (diesel). I prefer a diesel car, and my priorities are good looks and low maintenance. Which one should I consider?
Dear Autocar team, I’m planning to buy a new SUV with a budget of ₹20-₹25 lakh. Please suggest which would be a good one when comparing Sierra, New Seltos, etc. Also, please let me know if there’s a good 7-seater available in this range. Thank you.
The new Tata Sierra and new Kia Seltos are both excellent 5-seat SUVs packed with the latest features and tech. The Tata scores high on space and ride comfort, while the Seltos is big on quality and driving dynamics.
However, at this price, you could get a 7-seater too. If you don't mind the MPV body style, the Kia Carens Clavis offers the most spacious and practical cabin and is available with several different engines and gearboxes.
If you would like an SUV body style, consider the Hyundai Alcazar, though its third row and boot aren't quite as good as the Kia's.
