Hi team, I am planning to buy new compact SUV under 20 lakhs, confused between New Hyundai venue petrol dct and diesel tc. I heard diesel is not fuel efficient and dct is overheating if we drive more in traffic. I prefer diesel cars but iam not able to find a better mileage diesel automatic cars in the segment. I am open to any other compact SUV that should feature tech listed, fuel efficient, long engine lifespan, mainly should be sub 4 meter. Please suggest.

The Hyundai Venue with a diesel-automatic powertrain is efficient, but it would be more efficient with a manual gearbox. However, compared to a petrol-DCT, the diesel will definitely be better if mileage is the priority. The other option would be the Tata Nexon, which also has a frugal diesel engine. The downside, is the AMT gearbox that isn't as smooth or efficient as the torque converter on the Venue.

The Hyundai car also has more features, a well-sorted and high-quality cabin and a better after-sales network.

I own a Dzire petrol car and want to replace it with a new petrol car. Please suggest the best petrol car in the ₹10-12 lakh range.

Without knowing your exact requirements, it would be hard to recommend one. If you've had a good experience with your Maruti Dzire, it might be worth considering the new-gen Dzire, which comes feature-packed. It also has received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Plus, this Maruti car also gets a smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or AMT auto gearbox options.
If you prefer a hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20 are good options in this budget. As for compact SUVs, there are a plethora of options available like the Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and more.

I’m looking for an automatic SUV under ₹14 lakh and am deciding between the Tata Nexon DCA and the new 2025 Hyundai Venue DCT. This will be my first automatic car, and my daily usage is about 80 km. Which of these offers the best value for money given my requirements?

On pure value for money alone, the Tata Nexon DCA appears to come out on top, as prices of its model range on the whole are lower than the new Hyundai Venue, which gets pricey at the top end. However, Hyundai offers its Venue 1.0 petrol DCT in lower and mid-range variants too, including the N Line N6 version, while the Tata car has just one Petrol DCT variant that falls into your budget.

You would have to go beyond Rs 14 lakh to gain access to more features in the Tata. Plus, the Venue is the newer vehicle with slightly more up-to-date tech, and its turbo-petrol DCT is the smoother powertrain too.

Hence, we would recommend checking out the Hyundai Venue.

I have a tight budget of Rs 10 lakh. I need a car with good boot space, decent power, preferably a 1.2-litre engine and an automatic gearbox. Please suggest some good options that are available in the market now.

Since boot space as well as a powerful engine are your key requirements, the Tata Nexon Smart + S AMT seems to be the right fit for you. It has a respectable 382-litre boot, and its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine provides adequate pep to keep you entertained.
Yes, its automated manual transmission (AMT) tends to get jerky at city speeds, but given the convenience of an automatic and its sub-10 lakh pricing, it is the one that fits the bill.

I am confused between the Tata Sierra and Tata Nexon, and cannot decide between the two. I do not want the 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine of the Nexon, and I also do not prefer the big size of the Sierra. Can we expect the Nexon with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine in the coming six months?

We have yet to drive the Tata Sierra, but on paper, it looks and feels fresh and new with its brand-new petrol engine. So if you are asking which car will be a better long-term purchase, then our answer would be the Sierra, as it is the newer product and will not age as quickly.
As for whether the Tata Nexon will get the 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine from the Sierra, that is highly unlikely, even when the next-generation Nexon arrives. It would lose the tax concessions offered to sub-4-metre cars with petrol engines under 1200cc, making it more expensive to position in its segment.

I drive about 300 km weekly on the highway and 150–200 km in the city. I need a car with better mileage than the Ignis, good comfort, strong safety, and ample boot space. I’m open to CNG but not electric. My budget is ₹10-12 lakh. What do you advise?

The CNG Hyundai Exter would be a good option for you. The CNG setup consists of dual tanks that fit under the boot floor, thus you will still have a usable boot.

The seats are a bit firm, and the cabin is narrow, so if space and comfort are also very important, you can look at the Tata Nexon CNG. It too has a dual CNG setup below the boot floor, and the cabin is roomier than the Exter. The ride too is comfy and well composed at highway speeds.

I have just learned to drive and am buying my first car. My usage will be about 30 km daily in the city and one 500 km (one-way) trip each quarter, mostly on the highway. My priorities are safety, then cabin comfort (good seats, rear AC vents), and then mileage. Diesel is not an option. I’m deciding between the Mahindra 3XO and the Tata Nexon and am leaning toward the Nexon Pure+ S CNG. Please advise.

If you've got your heart set on the Tata Nexon iCNG, go for it. It is a very practical car, and the variant that you've selected spells good value for money.

The turbo-petrol-CNG combination is quite smooth, and performance is respectable too. Do keep in mind that if your daily commute includes frequent stop-and-go traffic, city efficiency could be on the lower side - around 13.4km/kg; however, on the open road, you could easily achieve around 24km/kg.

I am a police officer and want to buy an SUV with a budget of around ₹11/12 lakh. My job involves some rough driving, and about 80 percent of my driving is on the highway. I plan to keep the vehicle for at least 5-7 years without selling it. I want a diesel car with good mileage, and my daily running is 50/60 km.

Given your requirements for rugged and tough suspension, the Mahindra Bolero Neo will be a good option to consider. It has a torquey diesel engine that has good power delivery, and thanks to the rear-wheel drive layout, it is a bit better in hilly areas as well. The N10 (O) variant will fit in your budget and gets a decent kit like a reversing camera, cruise control and a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen.
The other option that is good over rough roads and highways is the Tata Nexon diesel in the Pure Plus variant. It has more power and is more modern-looking, but it isn't as tough as the Bolero, and in this price range, you won't get many features. Also, its front-wheel drive layout puts it at a disadvantage when it comes to driving uphill and in challenging terrain.

My budget is up to 13 lakh. I am looking for an SUV with comfort, safety, and mileage as priorities. Can you please suggest something?

Since your requirements are safety, comfort and efficiency, a diesel compact SUV would be the best bet. The Tata Nexon is a good option as it offers a very comfortable ride, is high on safety, and the diesel engine with the manual gearbox offers good efficiency as well.
The Creative variant is our pick, which gets you decent levels of features at a reasonable price.

Hi. I own a 2017 TUV300 T6 Plus (9-seater), and I’m looking to upgrade. My requirements are- solid safety, ample space for 4-5 passengers with luggage (a roof carrier is an option), good driving ergonomics on bad roads and rough terrain (not necessarily 4x4), reasonable running and maintenance costs, and a relatively smaller vehicle. The T6 Plus is a beast and becomes difficult to manage on narrow rural roads, so I want something more practical.

Considering all your requirements, the Tata Nexon would be a good option to consider. It has strong safety with a 5-star crash test rating, a roomy cabin for 5 passengers and a big boot as well.

The driving ergonomics are good too, with a light steering and smooth powertrains and should you opt for the diesel, you can expect low running costs as well. The Nexon is a sub-four-meter SUV, so it has a small footprint, but the ride and suspension cope very well over bad and broken roads.
