With its long bonnet and swooping roofline, the new Mercedes-Benz CLS looks striking from just about every angle. The cabin is beautifully designed too. The multiple screens and superbly executed ambient lighting give the interior a very new-age cool vibe. But for all its style, the CLS continues with some traditional weaknesses. The sloping roofline impinges on rear seat headroom and frankly the chauffeur-driven will be better served by the lower-priced E-class.The CLS is available with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. While a larger engine would have better complemented the CLS’ persona, you should know that the CLS 300d’s 245hp engine performs remarkably well. On the whole, however, the CLS is not an outright sporty car and is best enjoyed in a relaxed manner. Supple ride from the standard-fit air suspension makes it pleasant in town too.
