Being a Fiat Punto owner, a Jeep Compass diesel-automatic would have been an ideal upgrade for you, however there are far better, more affordable options available in the market. You could consider a Mahindra XUV 7XO or even a Tata Harrier, for their solid build, and confidence-inspiring driving experience. The diesel-automatic versions of both these should return respectable fuel efficiency too.However, if you want something a bit more compact and more manageable in the city, consider the strong hybrid versions of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara or Maruti Suzuki Victoris. All three are essentially the same car underneath; their hybrid powertrain is very efficient; and dynamically they are very capable too. Between these three, choose the one you think looks better, and the brand you're comfortable with.

Thanks to its more effortless performance, the 1.0-litre turbo Maruti Suzuki Brezza should be your choice if you frequently drive on the highway. Even for city drives, the 6-speed manual gearbox is smooth, and the clutch is quite light, which makes the Brezza rather easy to drive. The Turbo MT is also over Rs 2 lakh more affordable than the corresponding 1.5 AT version.Go for the 1.5 AT only if you absolutely need the convenience of an automatic, and you aren't on a tight budget. Otherwise, the 1.0 Turbo MT is a good option.

Go for the Skoda Kylaq. It is the most complete car of the three, offering a more premium cabin, better driving dynamics and a more substantial feel overall. The Kylaq's turbo petrol engine is punchy and refined, and the car feels more planted and confidence-inspiring on the highway. Overall, the Kylaq is the better car, and if you like to drive, this is the one we'd recommend.The Fronx and Taisor are good value propositions with strong reliability and low running costs, backed by their Maruti and Toyota respectively, which have a more extensive support network compared to Skoda.

With a daily running of around 100 km, fuel efficiency becomes a major factor in ownership costs. The Skoda Kushaq petrol automatic is a good car, but the 10-13kpl you are seeing is typical for a turbo petrol automatic, especially with E20 petrol. At this usage, a diesel or a strong hybrid makes far more sense.If you do regular highway runs, a diesel is still the most practical and cost-effective solution. The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic would be the recommendation here. It is a strong highway car, comfortable, spacious and the diesel engine will deliver significantly better fuel efficiency than your Kushaq. Diesel running costs will be far lower over your kind of mileage. If that is out of your budget, something smaller like a Kia Seltos diesel, while not as powerful, is even more efficient.If your usage is mostly city a strong hybrid could be a better solution. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the most practical and cost-effective option. It is well priced, has a proven track record and will dramatically reduce your running costs. The strong hybrid is better suited to the city, where it is more likely to run on its electric motor than use the engine and deliver the better mileage.

With less than 500km a month, your Celerio is still a perfectly usable car, and from a purely financial perspective, there is no pressing reason to upgrade. However, after nine years, it is understandable to want something newer, safer and more comfortable, especially if you are considering a move to an automatic SUV. Plus, at 9 years old, your car is not only from the pre-E20 petrol era, it's pre-E10 as well, so you would have to start taking a bit of extra care of it.Given your low running, most of which is in the city and driven by you, a petrol automatic is a good idea. Most of all, however, you will get a fully loaded automatic for around the top end of your budget.If you want something a little more exciting, the Mahindra XUV 3XO automatic is another excellent choice. It offers a more powerful turbo petrol engine, a more premium cabin and a more spacious rear seat. However, it won't be as efficient as the Brezza, and in your budget, you'll only get a mid-range automatic model.Ultimately, the decision comes down to whether you want to upgrade for the sake of a better ownership experience or more fun. If it's the former, the Brezza automatic is the safe, sensible choice, while the XUV 3XO automatic offers more performance and a more premium feel.
