I own a Maruti Wagon R and have been driving it for the past 12 years. I prefer Maruti Suzuki or its other models. My budget is ₹7-8 lakhs. I require that the seat height be similar to the Wagon R. Please suggest an alternative.

If you are looking for a car that is as tall as the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, the Celerio makes for a logical next step. The Celerio is a good option to consider as it is a tall-boy hatchback like the Wagon R and offers a spacious cabin with good headroom and a high seating position.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is available with a 1.0-litre petrol engine, which is the same one used in the new Wagon R, and this engine is peppy, and the car is easy to drive in the city. It is also incredibly fuel-efficient, making this hatchback one of the most fuel-efficient petrol cars in India.
The good news is you can get a fully loaded Celerio in your budget - even with an AMT automatic, should you so desire, and its more upmarket design inside and out makes it feel like a noticeable upgrade from the Wagon R.

I am 72 years old. My driving is limited to only about 10 km per day in the city only. My budget is about 6 lakhs. I want to purchase an automatic hatchback small petrol car fit for city driving, and easy to drive with minimal fatigue. Earlier I have never drove automatic car. Please advice which car will be suitable for me. I have little weakness in my right leg.

We would recommend you to consider the Maruti Suzuki Celerio VXI AGS, which should fall within your budget. It is a tall hatchback, with good visibility all around, a light steering, and its petrol-automatic combination is smooth and efficient. Being a Maruti, it is likely to deliver a fuss-free ownership experience.

If you can increase your budget slightly, you could consider the Maruti Wagon R, which will be even easier to enter and exit the vehicle. Being a very popular model, its resale value will be stronger than the Celerio too.

I am 67 years old and currently drive a Maruti Alto LXi, which returns 13 kmpl. I want to upgrade to a car you would suggest. My usage is mostly city driving, around 1,200 km per month. My budget is ₹8 lakh. Please advise.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio will be a good upgrade from your Alto LXi. It remains compact, and thanks to its tall-boy design, getting in and out is easy, and it offers a great view from the driver's or passengers' seats. Its 1.0-litre K10 petrol engine is proven as a reliable and fuel-efficient powertrain, and you should continue to get excellent mileage from it.
What's more, you can even get an AMT automatic in your budget, if you want a bit more convenience. If you want something more upmarket, consider the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. It's more powerful, efficient, and offers more space, practicality and comfort. You might, however, have to stretch your budget slightly if you want more features.

I am planning to buy a car with a budget of ₹7-8 lakh. I need it for my daily commute and for seating four people. I have no idea which car I should buy, as this will be my first car. Being a woman, comfort and good mileage are important to me.

For your first car, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is a good option to consider, and an often overlooked choice. It is spacious for four, comfortable and easy to drive, thanks to its tall seating position and large windows.
The 1.0-litre petrol engine is peppy and efficient, and the cabin is well laid out. The Celerio is also available with a CNG option, which will further reduce your running costs, but frankly, its 1.0-litre petrol engine is efficient enough on its own. If you want the convenience of an automatic, the Maruti car offers that too, and well within your budget.

We are planning to buy our first car under ₹10 lakhs. I am new to driving and learned in a driving school. Once I become comfortable, I will train my father and brother to drive as well. We drive occasionally and are located in a rural area, with occasional trips to suburban (10-15 km) and urban (40 km) areas. I need a fuel-efficient, low-maintenance, and safe car. I am considering the Alto, Wagon R, or Punch. I plan to keep the car for more than 10 years. Please advise.

The Tata Punch is a good option for you. The car is small and, for new drivers, will be easy to manage. It also scores well on the safety front - which is one of your priorities - with a 5-star BNCAP crash rating.

However, since you are also looking for fuel efficiency, low maintenance and want to keep the car for more than 10 years, we think the Maruti Suzuki Celerio would be a good option. While it may not match the crash safety score of the Punch, it still managed a 3-star GNCAP rating, which is good given that you will not be using the car mainly on highways.

Moreover, it would better meet your requirements of fuel efficiency and low maintenance, something the Maruti Suzuki brand has consistently delivered on. Also, it is a car that is easy to drive and is quite spacious inside.

My monthly usage is around 500km, mostly suburban driving. Which car should I buy that is fuel-efficient and easy to maintain? My budget is Rs 6 lakh.

In your tight budget, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi makes the most sense. It is fuel-efficient, easy to drive, has a well-tuned AMT gearbox, and is very easy to maintain. Maruti’s wide service network keeps ownership stress-free.
If you want a slightly roomier and more practical car, the Maruti Celerio is a good alternative, though you may need to stretch your budget by around Rs 50,000 to get the VXi variant with AMT.

I am 42 years old and recently suffered a slipped disc, so I can no longer drive a manual car. I want to buy a used automatic car with a budget of ₹3 to ₹4 lakh that offers decent mileage. Please suggest.

Since your budget is limited to Rs 4 lakh, you will have to look at a used car. We suggest you look at the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R AMT. This Maruti car is a spacious and practical hatchback that is easy to drive and own. The 1.0-litre engine is peppy and efficient, and the AMT gearbox is smooth and easy to use.
You can also look at the Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT. It is a smaller car than the Wagon R, but it is also quite practical and efficient.

I am looking for an automatic electric car under ₹13 lakh. My daily commute is around 40km. Which EV should I buy?

There aren't too many electric cars below the Rs 13 lakh mark, just the MG Comet, the Tata Tiago EV, and the Tata Punch EV.
If you plan to keep your current Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the MG Comet will do well as an intra-city commuter and as a good second car. However, if you need this as a primary car, we would recommend the electric Tata Punch. The four doors make it more practical, and the larger wheels and better high-speed performance give you the flexibility to take it on small trips out of the city too.
You will get the medium range within your budget, but if you can stretch it, the long range would make good sense as a primary car.

I’m looking for an economical and comfortable car for city use. My daily commute is around 45km, and my budget is up to ₹7 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is a good option to consider. It is spacious, comfortable, and easy to drive. The 1.0-litre petrol engine is peppy and efficient, and the car is also available with a CNG option.
The other option is the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R with the 1.2-litre petrol engine. It is good on space, comfortable for the city, and highly efficient too. The ZXi variant will fit in your Rs 7 lakh budget.
