Hi, Asking for the 3rd time. Iโ€™m looking to purchase a new 7-seater car. My usage will be about 30% city and 70% highways. I need a 5-star safety rating (for adults and kids), and the vehicle should be comfortable to drive and also fun to drive. Reliability is very important to me. My budget is โ‚น29 lakh on the road. Please suggest a suitable car. Thank you.

The best option for you would be the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It is spacious, comfortable, and has an excellent ride quality. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy and fun to drive, and it is also quite refined. However, if you wish to clock in a lot more kilometres, there is a strong and refined diesel engine option too.

Both engines offer very good performance, so if you are a keen driver, these will not disappoint you. The steering is light, but also changes character depending on the drive mode. Also, the new DCx dampers give it fantastic stability and bump absorption.

The XUV 7XO is also available with a 5-star safety rating. Mahindra has updated the safety with newer ADAS tech that is a lot better than the segment competitors.

Within your budget, you can get the AX7 L, which is the top-spec version with all the bells and whistles.

I am currently using a 2017 elite i20 diesel. I am planning to buy a new petrol automatic. My budget is 20-25 lakhs. I want to have a car that feel like a real upgrade with bigger size and better driving dynamics than i20. I have shortlisted tata harrier pure x or adventure x+ and xuv 7xo ax7. Which one is a better choice ? I am also thinking of shortening the budget and go for skoda slavia 1.5 sportline. Any other choices do I have ?

Between the Tata Harrier and the Mahindra XUV 7XO, the XUV 7XO AX7 is the better choice for what youโ€™re looking for.

With the recent facelift, Mahindra has improved the 7XO incrementally across the board, making it a more compelling and well-rounded package. It is spacious, the interiors feel more premium than before, and unlike the Harrier, it even offers a third row which gives you flexibility if you ever need to carry more people. With the third row folded, the 7XO manages to offer a larger boot than the Harrier too. Performance is another key differentiator. The 7XOโ€™s 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine with over 200 hp will feel like a big step ahead of the Harrierโ€™s 1.5-litre turbo petrol as well.

As for the Skoda Slavia 1.5 turbo petrol, thatโ€™s also a very good buy, especially if you want a car that feels refined, composed and engaging to drive compared to your current Elite i20. However, since the Slavia facelift is expected soon, it makes sense to wait for that.

I have a Skoda Superb (2021 model). I want to buy an SUV with a budget of โ‚น30 lakh. Is the XUV 7XO a good option?

The Mahindra XUV 7XO is comfortable, feature-rich and enjoyable to drive. Its engine options are strong and refined, automatic transmissions are smooth, and with the 2026 model, its ride quality has become significant, with exceptional bump absorption capability.

Overall, the XUV 7XO is an excellent option, and certainly one that we'd recommend.

Iโ€™m looking to buy a petrol automatic within โ‚น25 lakh. I need ADAS 2 features, good ride quality, and good mileage would be an added advantage. Can you suggest some options? (I want to avoid Tata.)

The best option for you would be the new Kia Seltos. The updated Seltos has a superior interior, is loaded with tech and features, offers one of the most sought-after ADAS systems, and rides well, too.

There is also a diesel option if mileage is a high priority, and if it is within your budget, you can easily get the top-spec version that gets all the bells and whistles. The build quality and interior are high quality, the design is standout, and the powertrain is tried and tested.

If you can stretch your budget a bit more and don't mind a slightly bigger SUV, the Mahindra XUV 7XO in AX7 T guise is also a fantastic option. It has a more powerful engine, an excellent ride courtesy of the new suspension and is equally loaded with tech and features.

Iโ€™m confused between the XUV 7XO AX7L petrol AT, the XUV 7XO diesel AT, and the XEV 9s Pack 3. I use the car mostly in Hyderabad city for about 1,000 km monthly - daily office commuting and occasional long highway trips (like Hyderabad to Bangalore or Hyderabad to Tirupati). Currently, I donโ€™t have a home charger setup, and office charging is not available, but I plan to buy a home and install charging in about three years. I am worried about petrol mileage, the potential diesel ban/Dpf issues, and EV charging infrastructure and reliability since itโ€™s not proven yet. My family is discouraging me from choosing an EV because of battery concerns. Please suggest the best option.

All your concerns are valid, and given your high usage, we would not recommend an EV. Especially for your occasional long highway runs, an EV will require one if not two charging stops, even in something with a battery as large as the Mahindra XEV 9S. Apart from that, if you do not have a home charging setup, it's not advisable either.

Your office charging unit will suffice on most days, but in a pickle you will have to rely on public charging infra, which has its limitations and is an inconvenience. And after 10 years, an EV's battery will be as much of a concern as a diesel ban; battery replacement is very expensive, and EV resale value plummets like a rock after 5 years.

As you mentioned, the mileage of the petrol XUV 7XO is very low, so given your usage, that's probably not worth it. The best choice, then, is the XUV 7XO diesel. Yes, while it will be banned after 10 years in some regions, it's still worthwhile to get a decade's worth of use out of the car, and sell it or scrap it for some return at the end. If your car is driven regularly, including some highway usage, DPF maintenance should not be an issue.

Hi, I need an automatic car for a daily commute of 50 km on weekdays in Mumbai city. I will hardly be taking any long trips on weekends or otherwise. Which car would you suggest: Harrier Petrol, 7XO Diesel or Seltos NA/Turbo, considering that I currently drive a Kushaq 1.0 manual? Budget is 25 lakh.

Purely as an urban commuter, the Kia Seltos NA Petrol IVT is the best option in terms of smoothness and user-friendliness. It is larger than your current car, and will feel like a proper upgrade in terms of space, comfort, features and tech.
Do keep in mind that your Skoda Kushaq's Turbo-Petrol engine is more powerful in comparison, and the Seltos 1.5 NA's performance could feel a bit underwhelming on the open road. Its turbo-petrol version will feel relatively more effortless.
The Tata Harrier and XUV 7XO are larger cars, and since you don't plan to use the new car for long trips, these could feel too big to drive in Mumbai's traffic.

Hello! I am a driving enthusiast and mostly drive solo. I am planning to purchase the Safari petrol Pure X. I like its road presence and visibility. However, I have a limited budget. I was initially planning for a budget of โ‚น15-16 lakh, but the Safari would cost close to โ‚น20 lakh. Please suggest whether I should go ahead with the Safari petrol or consider better options.

Given your requirements and budget, you should consider the Mahindra XUV 7XO. The Tata Safari is a good option, but the XUV 7XO offers a more powerful engine and a plusher cabin.
The XUV 7XO has good road presence, a spacious cabin, and it comes feature-packed. The Mahindra SUV is powered by a powerful 203hp, 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, and it has a very good ride and handling balance, so you'll enjoy driving it too.
Go for the base XUV 7XO petrol-MT AX, which is priced at Rs 13.66 lakh (ex-showroom), or if you can stretch your budget a bit, opt for the AX3, which costs Rs 16.02 lakh (ex-showroom).

I currently own a 5-year-old BS6 EcoSport diesel (earlier had a BS4 EcoSport diesel for 6 years). I now want to change my car but am unsure which one to buy. I am based in Delhi and drive around 9,000km per year, mostly in the city, with 3-4 highway trips annually. Budget: โ‚น17-19 lakh. Priorities: driving experience, double-digit real-world mileage, and overall product value. Test drives done: Creta, Elevate, Seltos petrol (NA) - did not feel very impressive. I am inclined towards the Alcazar, Creta Turbo, and XUV700, but I am open to suggestions.

Out of the cars you have shortlisted, all use turbo petrol engines, and achieving double-digit fuel efficiency in a congested city like Delhi will be difficult. Your best bet for good and consistent efficiency is to opt for a naturally aspirated petrol engine.
That said, whether you choose a naturally aspirated or turbo petrol, we would suggest going for the new Kia Seltos. It shares its engine options with the Creta and Alcazar, including both the 1.5 litre NA petrol and the 1.5 litre turbo petrol. Being the newer generation car, the Seltos is larger than the Creta, more spacious, better equipped, and also offers a bigger boot.
Between the Seltos and the Alcazar, choose the Hyundai Alcazar if you want the captain seat option, the ability to seat more than five people, and a larger boot with the third row folded.
We would not recommend the Mahindra XUV700, now called the XUV 7XO, for your usage. Within your budget, you would only get the lower variants, which are not as well-equipped as the others.
More importantly, fuel efficiency could be a concern. While the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine delivers effortless performance, achieving double-digit mileage figures, even on the highway, would require very gentle driving.

I want to buy a 7-seater car. My running is around 7k-8k km annually. It mostly includes short-distance travel. The car is used less on the road and more parked. I want strong safety features (it is the sole reason to upgrade from my existing Ertiga). Budget is up to Rs 30 lakhs.

Since your running is low, we would recommend a petrol-automatic car.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a good option. It is a spacious 7-seater and is available with a 203hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that is punchy and refined, and it comes mated to a smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The XUV 7XO also gets a long list of safety features, including six airbags, and Level 2 ADAS tech like autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and much more.
Although the Mahindra XUV 7XO has yet to receive a safety rating, the older XUV700 had received 5 stars in the Global NCAP crash tests back in 2021, which bodes well for the XUV 7XO too.
The XUV 7XO is also feature-rich with kit like a panoramic sunroof, a three-screen layout, ventilated front and middle row of seats, a 360-degree camera and much more. Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol-auto prices range from Rs 17.47 lakh to Rs 23.64 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hi, I am planning to buy the XUV 7XO. I drive about 1,000 km in the city every month and take highway trips twice a year. I am confused between the petrol and diesel versions, mainly because of DPF issues, as most of my driving is in the city. Kindly suggest.

If your city cycle involves drives longer than 20 minutes at a speed greater than 50kph, you should be fine. However, if your drives are typically short and at low speeds, you could have an issue and may be prompted to conduct a regeneration cycle. This involves driving the XUV 7X0 for about 20 minutes at speeds above 50 - 60 kph to clear the DPF. Basically, the DPF needs to get hot enough to burn away the soot, and this only happens on long drives with higher engine speeds.
