Iโm looking for a car for my wife, who is turning 30. Her daily usage will be short city drives, about 8 km to and from the gym, along with grocery runs and mall visits. Our budget is โน15 lakh, and we already own an i20 and an XUV700. Is the Thar 3-door RWD a good option for her, or would something more practical and fuel-efficient be better?
Iโm looking to upgrade to a new car. My monthly usage is around 1,000 km, mainly for city commuting as a college student. My budget is โน10-15 lakh, and Iโm considering the Mahindra Thar 4x2 or the new Hyundai Venue diesel.
Hello. I am looking to buy the Thar as a daily driver. I already have the Crysta for touring. My daily use will be mostly within 100 km and my annual usage is around 10,000-12,000 km. I would like your esteemed advice on which engine and fuel type I should consider for my use case. Thank you!
Considering your requirements, go for the diesel variant of the Thar. The petrol engine is smoother and more refined, but it will be heavy on your wallet due to its low fuel efficiency. The diesel engine, on the other hand, is refined, punchy, and will serve your purpose well. However, keep in mind that the three-door Tharโs ride quality isnโt the most comfortable for daily driving.
Which is the best car in terms of safety, reliability, driveability, and fuel efficiency? The options I am considering are the Thar, Taigun, and Kushaq. Also, is it okay to go for a diesel car?
The Mahindra Thar is a bit of an outlier among these three options. Itโs the only 3-door model, the only one built on a tough body-on-frame chassis, and the only one that comes with a diesel engine. Going for a diesel SUV is absolutely fine, in fact, the lack of diesel options in the Taigun and Kushaq petrol variants can be a disadvantage if you value fuel efficiency and torque for highway or off-road driving.
If the Thar is going to be your second or third car that will be used occasionally for off-road trips or wilderness drives, then itโs a compelling choice, and the 1.5-litre diesel is significantly cheaper too.
However, in terms of refinement, comfort, driveability, and on-road sophistication, the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are far superior. They are smoother, more comfortable, and easier to drive daily, making them better all-rounders for city and highway use.
The 2025 Mahindra Thar 3-door has been launched; however, the side-facing rear seats, which were available in the 2020 model, are still missing. Is there any indication that Mahindra will reintroduce the Thar 3-door with side-facing rear seats?
Itโs unlikely that the Mahindra Thar 3-door will be reintroduced with side-facing seats, as these benches did not support proper three-point seat belts or ISOFIX child seat mounts, which could compromise passenger safety. Moreover, such a setup would likely result in a lower crash test rating.
