Hello! After test riding the automatics of Kylaq, 3XO, Venue, Nexon, Creta, Seltos, Hyryder, Elevate, Kushaq, Taigun, and Roxx, Iโ€™ve narrowed my choice down to Kylaq Signature+ AT and Hyundai Creta S(O) IVT. Iโ€™m really confused between these two: Kylaq Signature+ AT โ€ข I love the drivability and safety feel. โ€ข Comfortable with higher service and parts costs. โ€ข Main concern is reliability. I donโ€™t want unexpected visits to the service center beyond regular servicing. Creta S(O) IVT โ€ข Great comfort, reliability, and bigger size. โ€ข But in a recent highway test drive, I didnโ€™t feel very confident while cornering. The throttle response felt weak (though manageable). For context, my current car is a Grand i10. In 8 years, Iโ€™ve only ever visited the service center twice (one heater coil issue and a clutch adjustment). I live in the Delhi NCR region. My use would be 80% city, but as my hometown is in hilly terrain, I want the car to perform well in hills. So my key question is: How reliable is the Automatic Kylaq? Are there any major issues? Should I go for Kylaq over Creta? PS: Donโ€™t want to wait for the Kushaq facelift as I feel Kylaq is more VFM, having the same engine and better performance. Not considering DSG. Thanks in advance.

On driving pleasure, as you have rightly pointed out, it is hard to beat the Skoda Kylaq. The turbo petrol engine delivers strong torque, and the ride and handling balance is among the best at this price point.
However, when choosing between the Skoda Kylaq and the Hyundai Creta, the Creta emerges as the more sensible option if peace of mind ownership is a priority. Having already lived with a Hyundai and experienced trouble-free ownership, the transition will feel familiar and reassuring. With the sheer number of Cretas on the road, it is a proven product that is difficult to go wrong with.
The Cretaโ€™s 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth and refined, and the CVT automatic gearbox is exceptionally seamless. This makes city driving effortless, which is an important factor given that nearly 80 percent of your usage will be urban.
That said, the Kylaq should also prove to be reliable. Mechanically, it is a well-established package. The turbo petrol engine has been used across multiple models over the years, and the 6-speed torque converter automatic is sourced from Aisin, a supplier trusted by several major manufacturers in India. From a durability standpoint, there are no inherent concerns.
Where Hyundai still holds a clear advantage is in aftersales support and service reach. The ownership experience is more predictable, especially in a region like Delhi NCR or when driving to the hills, where service stations are fewer and farther apart.
If driving enjoyment is your top priority, the Kylaq will always feel more engaging. But if long-term ownership comfort, service reach and peace of mind matter more, the Hyundai Creta remains the safer and more rounded choice.

My monthly usage is 1,300 km. I am currently using the Baleno Delta variant and planning to buy a new car. My budget is Rs 20 lakh. I need an automatic car with decent mileage and a comfortable ride quality. Usage is 40% highways and 60% city.

You can consider the Hyundai Creta 1.5 petrol IVT. It is a comfortable and spacious SUV that has a comfortable ride quality. The 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth and refined, and the CVT automatic gearbox is seamless, making it a good option for both city and highway use. The Creta IVT has a claimed mileage of 17.7kpl. Hyundai Creta IVT prices range between Rs 13.94 lakh and Rs 18.82 lakh (ex-showroom).
Alternatively, you can also consider the Kia Seltos, which is mechanically identical to the Hyundai Creta but has a different design inside and out and a roomier rear seat.

I am planning to buy an SUV with an IVT gearbox and have shortlisted the Creta Knight Edition, Kia Seltos HTX A, and Tata Sierra Accomplished, but I am unable to decide which one to choose.

When it comes to petrol-CVT combinations, the Kia-Hyundai models are the better options. The Seltos is a new entrant with a fresh interior and a loaded cabin.  On the other hand, Creta, which shares the same powertrain as the Seltos, has a simpler design and interior.

Both SUVs are spacious and comfortable, and between the two, it boils down to which one you like in terms of look and interior feel. Performance-wise, they are very similar, with a smooth petrol engine and an equally smooth CVT gearbox.

Our recommendation would be the Seltos for its new interior and fit-finish.

Want to buy a new car in the range of Rs 15 to 20 lakh. My driving is around 25,000 km per year, mostly on highways. We are a family of four. Good fuel economy is essential. Please advise which car I should buy.

Since you frequent highways and the economy is a priority, a diesel SUV would be a good choice for you. In the Rs 15-20 lakh price range, the Kia Seltos is the newest option and has the right makings with a strong diesel engine, a well-equipped cabin and Kia's widespread network. The HTK (O) trim comes well packed with features that you would need and makes for a strong case.
The Tata Sierra is also an option to consider if the Seltos' design is a bit too over the top for you. The Sierra has lots of room in the cabin, and the diesel engine is refined and punchy as well.
If both these dont sit well with you, the Hyundai Creta is the safest bet. It has a clean, no-nonsense design, a well-equipped cabin and the same strong diesel engine as the Seltos. It will also hold its value better since the Creta brand name is much stronger.
All three have good room in the cabin, and boot space for four is sufficient too.

Hi, I am using a Duster 110 RXZ and now want to sell it and buy a new SUV. What would you suggest, a petrol or a diesel SUV? My monthly run is around 1,000 km, and I have already driven 85,000 km in 8 years. My budget is around Rs 20 lakh, and I need a good, tough SUV that can be used for very long drives.

Since your monthly running is not very high, you can opt for a petrol SUV. In the Rs 20 lakh budget, you can consider the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq, to name a few. All three are good options and will serve you well.
The Hyundai Creta and Seltos are mechanically identical, while the Kushaq and Taigun share a lot between them.  To be fair, it comes down to the design and features you prefer.
The Renault Duster is also a great option to consider, and while prices are not out yet, it is likely to be in the same range as the above-mentioned SUVs. However, our recommendation will be to wait for the new upcoming Duster.
Since you already have the older version and have a good experience with it, the new one will be worth waiting for. It has modern looks, a premium cabin and lots of features, making it a strong contender in this segment.

I want to purchase a new mid-size SUV with all features such as a 360ยฐ camera, cruise control, ADAS Level 2, and a comfortable rear seat space for three.

You should consider the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, as both of them come equipped with the features you desire. Both SUVs are identical in terms of powertrain but differ in terms of design and features. So you should choose based on which car's styling, interior and feature set you prefer more.

It's worth noting that the Kia is the newer product, and it has a slightly roomier cabin and some more features. Hyundai Creta prices range from Rs 10.79 lakh to Rs 20.05 lakh (ex-showroom, India), while Kia Seltos prices range from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

My budget is around โ‚น24 to 26 lakh, and I am confused between the Hyundai Creta and the new Tata Sierra.

Between the two, considering your budget, we would suggest going for the new Tata Sierra over the Creta.
The Hyundai Creta is still a competitive product, but the Sierra has moved the game forward. It is larger on the outside, more spacious inside, and comes equipped with premium features, including a triple-screen layout and a powered tailgate. In turbo petrol automatic form, the Sierra is well matched to Hyundaiโ€™s turbo petrol DCT and, in fact, feels smoother at city speeds thanks to its torque converter gearbox. It also feels more confident at higher speeds, and combined with the roomier and more comfortable cabin, makes for a better long-distance car.
That said, if you are looking at a diesel, the Hyundai diesel engine is more refined of the two. Similarly, in the case of naturally aspirated petrol engines, there is no real competition. Hyundaiโ€™s 1.5-litre NA petrol is superior on all counts, and its CVT automatic is smoother than Tataโ€™s dual clutch transmission.
One reason to be cautious about the Creta is that it is expected to be replaced early next year, which means it could start to feel dated sooner.
Another car you should definitely consider is the new Kia Seltos. It carries over the Cretaโ€™s strengths thanks to shared powertrains, but builds on them by being a newer generation car. It is larger than the Creta, even longer than the Sierra, offers more space than the Creta, has the most premium interiors of the three, and also undercuts the Sierra by over Rs 1 lakh, making it a very strong value

I am planning to buy an SUV in the โ‚น15 to 18 lakh range in petrol version and am confused between the Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Victoris, and Hyundai Creta.

All three SUVs have a different character, and it depends on your preference. If you enjoy driving and want strong performance with good dynamics, the Skoda Kushaq is a very good option. It has been recently updated with more features and is the most powerful SUV in comparison to these two with a 1,5-litre TSI engine with 150hp.
The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is a sedated and relaxed SUV that offers a calm driving experience and is the least powerful option here. What it loses in performance, it gains in efficiency. Compared to the Kushaq and Creta, you can expect a much better fuel economy with the Victoris. However, the rear seat isnโ€™t all too comfortable with a short seat base and firm cushioning. It also misses out on features in comparison to the other SUVs and isnโ€™t all that appealing.
The Creta has established its dominance by proving itself as a well-rounded SUV in every area. Yes, it does not have the power of the Kushaq, but it has plenty to hold its own and a strong set of features that are usable. Moreover, the Creta commands a premium in the after-sales department, and that adds overall value to the purchase.
We recommend the Hyundai Creta for its adaptability and ease of use.

Iโ€™m planning to buy a new car in the subcompact SUV segment. My usage is quite low, and I prefer an automatic transmission. My budget is between 15 and 20 lakh. The car will mainly be used as a family vehicle for driving within Mumbai city, with occasional highway trips once every couple of months. Iโ€™m considering the Hyundai Creta S(O) Petrol IVT, for which Iโ€™m getting a discount of โ‚น80,000. Do you think this is a good deal, or should I consider other options?

The Hyundai Creta S O 1.5 IVT is a great option in the midsize SUV segment. The petrol engine is smooth and refined, and the automatic gearbox is well-suited to city driving. The Creta also offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, and the feature list is quite comprehensive. The discount you are getting makes it an even more attractive proposition.
Being a new launch, the Kia Seltos won't be available with any discounts, but we'll still recommend you to consider the new Kia Seltos, which is essentially powered by the same 1.5 petrol-automatic combination as the Creta, but it feels a lot more modern in comparison. Its suspension also feels more comfortable than the Hyundai's. The HTX IVT will fall within your Rs 20 lakh budget.

Iโ€™m looking to buy a car within a budget of โ‚น15-16 lakh. My daily commute is around 100-150 km, mostly on highways, along with occasional long drives with my family. Safety is a top priority for me, along with reliable after-sales service for hassle-free ownership and a decent set of features. Could you please suggest suitable options?

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris would be a good option for you. The car is safe with many standard features like 6 airbags and traction control, and it has secured a 5-star crash rating in both the GNCAP and BNCAP tests.

The car is also well equipped, and Maruti Suzuki is well known for its hassle-free ownership, so it would deliver on all your requirements. The only point being your daily running is quite high, and thus a diesel could suit you better.

If you are open to this, the Hyundai Creta would be a good option, though you would have a lower GNCAP rating of 3 stars and would have to opt for a lower-specced variant within your budget.
