Hyundai Aura
Hyundai Aura is a compact sedan that rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze. It is sold in 8 variants across six trims: E, S, Corporate, SX, SX(O) and SX+. As per us at Autocar India, the Aura is a smooth and easy sedan for the city. The engine is refined, the controls are light and the cabin is well built, with six airbags as standard. It is not the roomiest car in its class, but it does everything you expect of it with finesse.

Aura Road Test Findings
What we liked
- The 1.2-litre petrol is smooth and refined. It responds well to light throttle inputs and keeps up with traffic without needing to be revved.
- It is easy to drive. The steering is light, the manual gearbox shifts slickly, and the clutch is light.
- The cabin feels bright, and the fit and finish are top-notch.
- The 402-litre boot is large, and the rear seat offers good support with a comfortable backrest angle.
What we did not like
- It is not as spacious as its rivals, and the rear seat is best for two adults.
- The front seats feel firm and narrow, and their headrests cannot be adjusted.
- Performance is not brisk, so it is best driven in a relaxed way.
- It misses out on features some rivals offer, such as a sunroof, a 360-degree camera and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Who Should Buy The Aura?
Who it suits | Why it fits |
City commuters | As per us, the Aura is a relaxed A-to-B car. The smooth engine keeps up with traffic easily, and its compact size makes it simple to drive and park in tight spots. |
New drivers | The light steering, slick gearbox and light clutch make driving stress-free. Hence, it would be an easy car to get used to. |
High-mileage users | The CNG version keeps running costs low. In our real-world tests, it returned 26.74km/kg overall and as much as 31.43km/kg on the highway. |
Small families who travel with luggage | The 402-litre boot can store plenty of luggage. |
Buyers who value build quality | We found the cabin bright and its fit and finish top-notch. Therefore, it feels well put together for the money. |
The buyer Aura suits least is someone who needs a roomy cabin for five adults.

Hyundai Aura price & variants
Hyundai Aura price in India starts at Rs 6.00 lakh for the Petrol E MT and goes up to Rs 8.67 lakh for the CNG SX MT (ex-showroom). On the other hand, Aura on road price in major Indian cities ranges from Rs 6.52 lakh to Rs 9.95 lakh. EMIs for the Petrol E MT start at Rs 9,493 a month.

Which Aura variant should you buy?
- As per us, the SX is a sensible buy. It adds the 8-inch touchscreen, a rear camera, stability control, automatic climate control and cruise control. Plus, it is also offered with petrol, CNG or, as the SX+, the AMT.
- Go for the SX(O) if you have young children. It is the only trim with ISOFIX mounts, and it also gets automatic headlamps and a wireless charger.
- The S variants are a good budget pick for families. It adds rear AC vents, power windows all round, tyre pressure monitoring and Bluetooth audio. It is also offered with CNG.
- We would advise you to avoid the base E variant, as it barely offers any modern convenience features.
Note: CNG is offered only on the S, Corporate and SX trims, and only with a manual gearbox. And, if you want the AMT, you will have to choose the SX+ petrol.

6.0
While the Aura’s design has aged, the 2023 facelift brings some freshness. A new slim grille, inverted trapezoidal air dam, inverted L-shaped LED DRLs, and vertical air vents lend it a sportier front. Hyundai’s satin-finished 2D logos replace the older 3D ones. The new ‘Starry Night’ paint shifts between dark blue and black depending on the light. A rear spoiler adds flair, though the large LED tail-lamps remain unchanged and continue to divide opinion.
7.0
The interior scores high on quality and rear seat comfort. Copper accents around the dashboard and gear console add uniqueness, though taste may vary. Traditional analogue dials replace the older part-digital cluster, accompanied by a monochrome MID with a digital speedometer and tyre pressure monitoring. Front seats feel narrow and firm with fixed headrests, but the rear offers good support and space for two adults. The 402-litre boot is practical.
7.0
Powered by an 83hp 1.2L petrol engine, the Aura is available with a 5-speed manual or AMT, and also comes in a petrol-CNG manual variant. Though the diesel and turbo-petrol options are gone, the petrol unit remains smooth and refined—ideal for urban use. It’s responsive to light throttle inputs but lacks the punch for spirited driving.
8.0
Efficiency figures stand at 17kpl for petrol versions and 28.4km/kg for CNG. These are impressive, though the Maruti Dzire edges ahead in both fuel types.
7.0
With light controls, plush low-speed ride and a smooth clutch-gear combo, the Aura is a relaxed city commuter. While it isn’t dynamically sharp, its overall comfort suits a laid-back driving style.
7.0
Six airbags are now standard, with top variants also getting ESP, hill-start assist, and auto headlamps. Convenience features include an 8-inch touchscreen (wired), wireless charging, cruise control, push-button start, rear AC vents, and more, though some segment rivals offer a more extensive list.
7.0
Priced from Rs 6.5–9.11 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aura isn’t the cheapest or most spacious, but it’s refined, safe, and well-equipped. Ideal as a fuss-free, feature-rich urban commuter, it remains a competent compact sedan choice.

Hyundai Aura FAQs
The Hyundai Aura is extremely user-friendly with light controls and a smooth engine. And, in typical Hyundai fashion, it's very well equipped. As a convenient commuter, the Hyundai Aura is as good a compact sedan.
Due to the sedan's narrow width, its rear bench is best for two adults, rather than three.
The Aura feels comfortable at low speeds and since it isn’t dynamically sporty, it's best to adopt an easy-going driving style and enjoy it as a point A to B commuter.
The petrol-AMT powertrain is the best for city use. Those who want manual control can go for the 5-speed MT; this can also be had with a factory-fitted CNG kit, reducing running costs.
Compared to the Maruti Dzire Tour S (Rs 6.24 lakh-Rs 7.10 lakh), the Hyundai Prime (fleet version of Aura) has a more affordable price bracket (Rs 6 lakh to Rs 6.97 lakh).
Questions you may find useful
I am confused between the Hyundai Verna and Hyundai Aura. Which one to buy?
The Verna and Aura are two very different cars, so the decision really comes down to your priorities and budget. The Hyundai Verna is a larger, more premium sedan with a more powerful engine, better ride quality, more space and a more upmarket feel overall. It is the better choice if you are looking for a comfortable family car with good highway manners and a more premium ownership experience. The Hyundai Aura, on the other hand, is a compact sedan that is more affordable, easier to manoeuvre in the city and cheaper to run and maintain. It is a sensible choice if your usage is predominantly city-based and you are looking for a value-for-money package. If your budget allows, the Verna is the clear recommendation. It is a more complete car and will keep you happier over a longer ownership period. The Aura only makes sense if you are on a tighter budget and want a compact, easy-to-drive sedan for city use.
I am confused between Hyundai Aura and Verna. Please advise.
If the Verna fits into your budget, it is the better car. It is nicer to drive, more spacious, more comfortable and overall, it feels more premium. Opt for the Aura only if you need a more compact car, perhaps due to parking constraints.
I currently own a Hyundai Aura and have extensive driving experience with Tata and Honda cars as well. I’m familiar with different car segments and have a good understanding of their features, performance, and driving experience.
I want to buy a base-model car for city use. Please suggest which is better between the Hyundai Aura and i20 Era, or recommend another car in the same price segment.
The Hyundai Aura and i20 are powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine, which is refined, peppy and fuel-efficient. They also use the same smooth 5-speed manual gearbox with a light clutch and steering. Both of these Hyundai cars are equally easy to drive too.Go for the Aura if you need a big boot. Otherwise, the Hyundai i20 is the one to pick - it is well-built, its interior is nicer, the cabin is more spacious, and overall it is the better car. The Hyundai i20 price starts at Rs 6 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.59 lakh (ex-showroom).
I need an automatic sedan with a limited budget and essential features. I am confused between the Maruti Dzire and the Hyundai Aura for 90% city use.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a better option than the Hyundai Aura. The Dzire is more spacious and comfortable, and its 1.2-litre petrol engine is a lot more efficient than the Aura's 1.2-litre petrol unit. Both compact sedans get an AMT gearbox, but the Dzire's unit is a bit nicer in the city. Feature-wise, both compact sedans offer a decent equipment list. But the Dzire has the advantage with wireless connectivity and a sunroof for a more premium experience. Moreover, the Dzire will hold its value a lot better, and it is the most economical car to own, especially for the city. The ride comfort is very good, the steering is light, and the efficiency is segment-best.
