Tata Curvv petrol price

Tata Motors has officially confirmed a new turbocharged direct injection petrol engine for the upcoming Curvv coupe-SUV, making it the first model to use it. Dubbed the ‘Hyperion,’ this engine was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. It could also be offered in other compact Tata vehicles.

  1. 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 125hp, 225Nm
  2. Is also compatible with E20 fuel
  3. Prices for Curvv to be announced on August 7

Tata 1.2-litre TGDi Hyperion engine highlights

The new 1.2-litre direct injection turbo-petrol engine is a three-cylinder unit displacing 1,198cc. It produces 125hp at 5,000rpm and 225Nm of torque between 1,700 and 3,500rpm – that’s 5hp and a healthy 55Nm more than what is offered in the Nexon. The bump in output will be essential to account for the Curvv’s additional weight that has come with lengthening the wheelbase.

This new engine is an all-aluminium unit featuring variable valve timing technology, a variable oil pump, and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head. Additionally, it is equipped with a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger, which Tata claims will deliver better torque from lower in the rev range for better acceleration.

Tata’s existing 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which will be offered on lower trims of the Curvv, isn’t the most refined, nor does it provide much in terms of performance. The company is claiming high levels of refinement along with improved performance and fuel efficiency with this new engine. So it remains to be seen how it performs in the real world.

Tata Curvv launch details, expected price

Prices for the Curvv will be announced on August 7, likely covering all its iterations — petrol, diesel, and electric. The diesel engine will be the existing 1.5-litre unit from the Nexon, while the EV will be offered with two battery options, more about which you can read here. Tata is also equipping the Curvv with several segment-first features, details of which are available here. We expect the Curvv prices to range from Rs 12 lakh to 20 lakh, while the electric version could be priced between Rs 16lakh-22 lakh.
