I am 6′ 0″ tall and looking for a bike for city use. My budget is ₹3 lakh, and I’m considering options like the Classic 350, Meteor 350, CB350 RS, and Harley-Davidson X440. I’m really confused - can you help?

For city use, we'd recommend picking between the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Honda CB350RS. Both seat the rider comfortably, although the CB350RS has a slightly sportier seating position. But also have a comfortable suspension, which is what you'll value in the city. If ridden sensibly, the two 350s will also return decent fuel economy. Do bear in mind that the Classic 350 is likely to be updated with a slip/assist clutch soon. if you are looking to buy this bike, we'd advise you to defer your purchase by a few months.

Since you're already looking at the Classic, its sibling, the Hunter 350, also makes for a great city bike. Despite its relatively smaller size, larger riders will fit just fine on the Hunter, and this is the most city-friendly machine of all the bikes you are looking at.

The Harley-Davidson X440 is also a good option inside the city with its torquey engine, neutral ergonomics and decent suspension. But its fuel economy will be lower than the other bikes, and its top model falls outside your budget.

Take a test ride of these bikes to decide which is the best option for you.

I am confused about buying a new two-wheeler. I have been riding a scooty for years and now I’m planning to buy a bike. I would like something suitable for a beginner, and I like the Harley-Davidson 440X. But I also like the new Yamaha Aerox 155. Which one should I consider?

The Harley-Davidson X440 will be a good starting point for a novice rider, although you will take some time to get used to its weight. Since you are shopping in this class of bike, other options to consider are Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Honda CB350 trio and the TVS Ronin. Of these, the Ronin will be the lightest and one of the most affordable options while still delivering comparable performance to the 350s.

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is a good scooter in many ways, but its stiff rear suspension and cramped ergonomics for taller riders are two big reasons we would steer you away from it. If you do want a large-capacity scooter, then the TVS Ntorq 150 is our current pick because it has engaging performance but doesn't sacrifice comfort or practicality.

Take a test ride of everything you consider, which will help you decide if you're ready to get into bikes or should stick with a scooter.

Hi, I am confused between the Harley-Davidson X440, Honda CB350 and TVS Apache RTX 300. I am 40 years old, and my daily usage is around 30km. I want to start touring on a motorcycle, with rides of around 350km, and pillion comfort is important. I have mostly been riding an Ntorq scooter and consider myself a beginner since it has been a long time since I rode a bike. Please advise.

Since you consider yourself a beginner, the TVS Apache RTX 300 may not be the best fit. It is a tall and top-heavy machine, which can rob newer riders of confidence. However, as a package, it is the most well-rounded machine of the three bikes you are considering, especially when it comes to touring with a pillion onboard.
The Honda CB350RS and Harley-Davidson X440 are neo-retro roadsters with torquey engines, upright ergonomics and decently plush suspension, which will make for a better fit for a newer, less experienced rider like yourself with their low seat heights and therefore, centre of gravity too. For similar reasons, the Royal Enfield Bullet and Classic 350 are also worth considering.
We recommend you take a thorough test ride of everything you're considering with a pillion onboard before making a purchase.

I am considering buying either a Triumph, a Harley-Davidson, or the TVS Apache 310 for city riding and occasional highway use. Engine capacity is not a concern, but I would like advice specifically on ownership costs and maintenance.

On the ownership and maintenance cost front, the TVS Apache RTR 310, Harley-Davidson X440, and Triumph 400s should be more or less on par, unless major wear and tear parts like a chain-sprocket set are to be replaced.
We would recommend you reach out to your nearest authorised dealer for each brand and speak to them for a more accurate picture.

I am confused between the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Harley-Davidson 440S. My budget is a maximum of ₹3.5 lakh, and I will be travelling about 40 km daily. In terms of comfort, daily travel, and good mileage, which bike should I purchase? Please suggest.

Both the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Harley Davidson X440 are great bikes to use daily, however they have a different riding experience. The more powerful Harley is also slightly more eager in the corners and has a more engaging riding position, too. It will also be less fuel-efficient in city traffic owing to its larger engine.

The relaxed Royal Enfield has a more laid-back riding position and will also feel like a slightly bigger bike. If you travel often with a pillion, the Classic is the better bet as both of you will be more comfortable.

A test ride of both will help you decide which is best for you.

I want to buy a bike mainly for city use (around 90%). My budget is under ₹3 lakh. I am looking for a good-looking bike with a comfortable suspension. Please advise.

Within your budget, bikes like the TVS Ronin, Royal Enfield Hunter/Bullet/Classic, Triumph Speed 400, Harley-Davidson X440, as well as the Honda CB350 models, will make for a good fit in the neo-retro roadster segment. If you want something that's a little more rugged, then ADV bikes like the TVS Apache RTX 300, Hero Xpulse 210, and KTM 250 Adventure deserve your attention.
A test ride of all these should help you decide which is the best option for your usage as well as your physique.

I am loving the Harley X440 and want to buy it. Can you suggest if it is worth buying in terms of maintenance and resale value? If it’s not worth it, please suggest another similar option. I also like the RE Classic, but it is very common these days, so I want to consider another option similar to the Harley X440.

The Harley-Davidson X440 is built by Hero and is a simple motorcycle without too many complex parts or features. As such, it should largely be a decently affordable machine to live with by and large. Resale value is very subjective and is sensitive to the area you reside in, as well as a multitude of other factors.

If you want something similar, bikes like the Honda CB350 models, Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Triumph Speed 400 make for promising alternatives.

Take a test ride before you decide to see which one fits you best.

I am 50 years old and my height is 5′11″. I enjoy long rides. Between the Harley X440 and the Meteor 350, which bike is better for me?

Both the Harley Davidson X440 and the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 are similar in some ways, in that both use simple, air-cooled engines and aren't overly sporty. However, the bigger Harley has a clear performance advantage, which will be useful when you need to make an overtake at highway speeds.

Its 6-speed gearbox will also ensure that the engine stays smooth and relaxed at 100-110kph. It is something the smaller Royal Enfield bike won't be able to sustain so comfortably.

If you are the sort of rider who rarely ventures over 80-90kph, then the more affordable Meteor 350 would be a good fit.

I am a first-time motorcycle rider, and I’m trying to decide between the Jawa 42 Bobber, Jawa Perak, Royal Enfield Meteor 350, Goan Classic 350, Triumph Speed 400, and Harley-Davidson X440. I’m 5'7”, 38 years old, and have a muscular build. Which of these bikes would be most suitable for me in terms of comfort, handling, and ease of riding? Also, do all of these bikes have an option for carrying a passenger comfortably?

First things first, the Jawa Perak and 42 Bobber are strictly single-seater bikes and have no provisions for carrying a pillion. These bikes are also rather stiff and uncomfortable, and we'd recommend steering clear unless you ride very little and mostly on smooth roads.
Coming to the other options you've shortlisted, the Triumph Speed 400 will be the dynamically most capable machine and also the fastest one. On the other end of the spectrum, you'll have the laidback but charming Royal Enfield 350s with their easy riding and torque-rich experience.
The Harley-Davidson X440 splits the difference between the Triumph and the REs. It all boils down to personal preference, so take a thorough test ride of everything you're considering before making a decision.

I am a fourth-year college student looking for a good cruiser-style bike. Budget is not an issue. I do not want a fat or race-styled motorcycle; I prefer a standard, classic look similar to Royal Enfield or Harley-Davidson (or the X440 for reference). I want a bike that offers strong speed and excellent stability, with no major compromises in performance or usability. Please suggest suitable options.

Among the RE 350s, you can consider the Hunter / Bullet / Classic models for their comfortable ride, neutral ergonomics and smooth as well as characterful engine. In a similar vein, the Honda CB350s also warrant strong consideration for similar reasons.

All the Harley-Davidson X440 models have a similar riding experience and only differ in terms of features and design, so pick the one you like the most.

Lastly, we would also recommend you take a look at the Triumph Speed T4 and Triumph Speed 400 as they offer great performance and quality at a reasonable price.

Take a test ride of all the bikes you shortlist before you decide.
