Questions you may find useful
Which bike should I choose between the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the Harley-Davidson X440? I'm 6 feet tall and need a comfortable, easy-to-ride motorcycle for daily commuting in Pune's traffic and pothole-ridden roads, with occasional weekend rides. My budget is under Rs. 4 lakh on-road, and I plan to keep the bike for 7+ years. My priorities are: Rider and pillion comfort Excellent suspension Easy city manoeuvrability Reliability and low maintenance Good fuel efficiency Premium fit, finish, and road presence Based on these requirements, which bike would you recommend and why? Please compare their comfort, suspension, traffic-friendliness, pillion comfort, mileage, maintenance, and long-term ownership experience. Also, suggest any better alternatives under Rs. 4 lakh on-road.
Both the 350cc Triumph Scrambler 400 X and Harley-Davidson X440 are very good candidates for your next purchase, but they are quite different machines underneath. The H-D X440 is a relaxed roadster with a smooth, characterful long-stroke single-cylinder engine which has a good dose of low and mid-range torque. Despite its weight, the X440 is a manageable and comfortable machine inside the city and is planted and stable on the highway. If you can, make the stretch to the X440 T because not only does it look better, its finish levels are also much higher. On the highway, cruising at 100-110kph, the X440 is relaxed and vibe-free, although this is not a sporty machine. In fact, the Scrambler 400 X will be much sportier in its overall handling despite having decent off-road capability. Its liquid-cooled engine is more powerful, but you will need to rev it to make quick progress. The Scrambler also has good seating and ride comfort, although its pillion seat is on the smaller side. Take a test ride of both since they are such different machines before you make your decision.
I am confused between the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Harley-Davidson 440S. My budget is a maximum of ₹3.5 lakh, and I will be travelling about 40 km daily. In terms of comfort, daily travel, and good mileage, which bike should I purchase? Please suggest.
Both the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Harley Davidson X440 are great bikes to use daily, however they have a different riding experience. The more powerful Harley is also slightly more eager in the corners and has a more engaging riding position, too. It will also be less fuel-efficient in city traffic owing to its larger engine. The relaxed Royal Enfield has a more laid-back riding position and will also feel like a slightly bigger bike. If you travel often with a pillion, the Classic is the better bet as both of you will be more comfortable. A test ride of both will help you decide which is best for you.
I’m 5′9″ and currently ride a Yezdi Roadster. I want to upgrade to a bike for daily office runs of 25-30 km and weekly tours of about 150 km. I’m looking for a motorcycle that offers decent mileage and good riding comfort. Please suggest suitable options.
Taking your considerations into account, bikes we would recommend taking a look at are the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X / XC. Both will offer you considerably higher performance than your Yezdi bike and will also be comfortable enough to handle daily commuting duties while being brisk enough on the highway as well. If you want an air-cooled, torquey engine, then you could even take a look at the Harley-Davidson X440, which is a comfortable neo-retro roadster that has decent performance. Take a test ride of the machines you shortlist before picking one.
