In recent years, the popularity of the electric midsize SUV segment has grown with several contenders entering the fray. This isn’t all that surprising because, like ICE-powered midsize SUVs, they strike a great balance between proportions, daily usability, power, features, and, importantly, price.

As is the case with EVs, though, range anxiety remains a concern among buyers, and carmakers are attempting to partly alleviate this via faster charging speeds. To that end, we’ve ranked the claimed charging time – in descending order – of every electric midsize SUV on sale in India. AC fast charging times have been used as the basis of these rankings.

Note: The Vinfast VF6 hasn't been included in this list as the company is yet to reveal AC charging times for the electric SUV; it charges from 10-70 percent in 25 minutes using a DC fast charger.

5. Mahindra BE 6

0-100 percent in 8.7 hours (7.2kW)

Price: Rs 18.90 lakh-26.90 lakh (without charger)

Fastest charging electric midsize SUVs in India

Arguably the wildest-looking Mahindra you can buy right now, the BE 6 comes equipped with 59kWh and 79kWh battery pack options. Of these, the 59kWh unit can go from flat to full in a claimed 8.7 hours using a 7.2kW AC charger (costs Rs 50,000 extra). This places the BE 6 as the slowest-charging SUV on this list.

It’s worth mentioning, though, that the BE 6 offers one of the largest batteries in the segment, so slower charging times are understandable. Should you need to charge the BE 6 quicker, though, you can opt for a 11.2kW AC charger (costs Rs 75,000 extra) that can take the 59kWh battery from 0-100 percent in just 6 hours.

4. MG ZS EV

0-100 percent in 8.5-9 hours (7.4kW)

Price: Rs 17.99 lakh-20.75 lakh (Rs 13 lakh-15.51 lakh with BaaS)

Fastest charging electric midsize SUVs in India

Originally launched in 2020 – it received a facelift in 2022 – the ZS EV is the first electric midsize SUV in India. It gets a 50.3kWh battery across all variants, which can be charged from 0-100 percent in 8.5-9 hours. Commendably, MG covers the cost of the 7.4kW fast charger and its installation for ZS EV buyers, and the SUV is also available with the BaaS programme to reduce upfront costs.

Despite the ZS EV having an 8.7kWh smaller battery than the BE 6, there’s only a marginal difference in their charging times – likely a result of the Mahindra’s more efficient born-electric architecture as opposed to the ICE-derived MG EV.

3. MG Windsor EV

10-100 percent in 7 hours (7.4kW)

Price: Rs 14.10 lakh-18.60 lakh (Rs 9.99 lakh-13.60 lakh with BaaS)

Fastest charging electric midsize SUVs in India

The second MG on this list is the popular Windsor EV, which doesn’t fit the midsize SUV mold visually, but dimensionally, it is in line with the others here. MG offers the Windsor EV with 38kWh and 52.9kWh battery packs, with the former taking a claimed 7 hours for the 10-100 percent charge. The Windsor can be purchased with BaaS too, and is the most affordable EV here by a fair margin.

However, it should be noted that the 7.4kW AC charger is not available with the 38kWh Windsor EV’s Excite and Exclusive variants; they support 3.3kW AC charging (13.5 hours for 10-100 percent) only. The Windsor EV Essence, Exclusive Pro and Essence Pro variants get the 7.4kW charger as standard.

2. Tata Curvv EV

10-100 percent in 6.5 hours (7.2kW)

Price: Rs 16.99 lakh-19.49 lakh (charger included)

Fastest charging electric midsize SUVs in India

When it comes to 7.2kW AC charging speeds, the Tata Curvv EV is the winner here. The Curvv EV’s 55kWh unit even beats the ZS EV's 50.3kWh battery, with the former taking 7.9 hours to charge from 0-100 percent. Tata also offers the 7.2kW charger as standard, so buyers of all variants can take advantage of the quicker speeds.

1. Hyundai Creta Electric

10-100 percent in 4 hours (11kW)

Price: Rs 18.02 lakh-23.67 lakh (11kW charger costs extra)

Fastest charging electric midsize SUVs in India

Hyundai has only disclosed 11kW AC charging times for the Creta Electric, so it’s not directly comparable to the others on this list. Still, when compared to the only other electric SUV here that supports 11kW charging – the BE 6 – the Creta Electric’s smaller 42kWh battery takes 2 hours less, albeit with a slightly higher initial SoC (state of charge) of 10 percent.

However, the Creta Electric's upper hand in charging speeds is offset by its 157-173km range deficit compared to the BE 6. Like with the BE 6, the Creta Electric’s 11kW charger is an optional extra worth Rs 73,000 – available in all trim levels barring the Executive, Executive Tech, and Executive (O) LR.

All prices are ex-showroom, India.

Good move; it cuts dependence on crude oil imports
I support it as it’s a greener solution than pure petrol
I’ll accept it only if it’s cheaper than E20 petrol
