I’m looking for an automatic SUV under ₹14 lakh and am deciding between the Tata Nexon DCA and the new 2025 Hyundai Venue DCT. This will be my first automatic car, and my daily usage is about 80 km. Which of these offers the best value for money given my requirements?

On pure value for money alone, the Tata Nexon DCA appears to come out on top, as prices of its model range on the whole are lower than the new Hyundai Venue, which gets pricey at the top end. However, Hyundai offers its Venue 1.0 petrol DCT in lower and mid-range variants too, including the N Line N6 version, while the Tata car has just one Petrol DCT variant that falls into your budget.

You would have to go beyond Rs 14 lakh to gain access to more features in the Tata. Plus, the Venue is the newer vehicle with slightly more up-to-date tech, and its turbo-petrol DCT is the smoother powertrain too.

Hence, we would recommend checking out the Hyundai Venue.

My budget is up to ₹18 lakh. I have booked a Tata Nexon Petrol DCA (automatic), but it has been over a month, and the showroom still cannot confirm the delivery date. Because of this delay, we are reconsidering our decision. Should I wait for the Nexon DCA, or switch to the manual petrol variant since it is available? Another option is to cancel the booking and buy a used Mahindra Scorpio N or XUV700 within the same budget. This will be our secondary car. We already own a Hyundai Grand i10 Nios automatic. We live in a semi-urban area (not a metro city). Our usage would be around 60% city driving and 40% highway trips. Kindly suggest what would be the most sensible decision.

If you are in a hurry, you could go with the manual Tata Nexon. As it isn’t your primary car, and city usage will be limited to around 60%, the manual won’t be too inconvenient. That said, while the clutch is relatively light, the shifts are a bit long and vague. The DCA, on the other hand, is smooth and jerk-free in operation and will be far more convenient in the city. The Mahindra Scorpio N and XUV700 are both good options, but they are quite different from the Nexon. The Scorpio is a ladder-frame SUV with a rugged feel, but also a bouncy ride. The XUV700 is more comfortable than the Scorpio, but in petrol guise, it can be quite thirsty. If you decide to go with a used option, make sure you buy from a trusted source, ideally with a warranty.

I am planning to buy an EV car, but I am confused between the MG Windsor and the Toyota eBella from Toyota. Please guide me on which one would be the better choice.

It's hard to recommend a car without knowing more about your personal requirements. However, generally speaking, the Toyota eBella, essentially the Suzuki eVitara, which has been selling for a while now in Europe, has a reliable software experience. On the other hand, the MG Windsor has been known to have a few software glitches. These, however, being software-driven, are fixable, and MG has issued some updates already. Beyond this, in every other way, the MG Windsor is a much better car, offering far more interior space and comfort, an impressive feature list and a good ride quality.

I am planning to buy a second car for office commuting with an automatic gearbox. Driving will be 90 % in the city, point A to point B, with about 12,000 km per year. I want a car with good suspension, comfortable ride, decent mileage, and long-term reliability within ₹15 lakh. I have decided between the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI AT and the Hyundai Venue HX5 Diesel AT. Please suggest which is the better option, or if there are suitable alternatives.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI AT is a petrol-automatic, while the Hyundai Venue is a diesel-automatic. Thus, you will likely spend less on fuel with the Hyundai. However, since your driving is 90% in the city and you are looking for a good suspension system, we would lean towards the Maruti Brezza. The ride is nice and plush at city speeds, soaking up bumps and ruts easily. The Venue, on the other hand, still has a slight underlying firmness to its ride. Further, since your driving is mainly in the city, you could face issues with the DPF filter clogging or needing to run a regeneration cycle now and then. Especially if your drives are less than 40 to 50 odd kms and at speeds below 50 kph..
