I own a Dzire petrol car and want to replace it with a new petrol car. Please suggest the best petrol car in the โ‚น10-12 lakh range.

Without knowing your exact requirements, it would be hard to recommend one. If you've had a good experience with your Maruti Dzire, it might be worth considering the new-gen Dzire, which comes feature-packed. It also has received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Plus, this Maruti car also gets a smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or AMT auto gearbox options.
If you prefer a hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20 are good options in this budget. As for compact SUVs, there are a plethora of options available like the Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and more.

I bought a 2014 Audi A4 (99,000 km) for โ‚น9.5L and spent another โ‚น1.5L on a major service. The car has been running perfectly for the last 6 months. Iโ€™m worried about its resale value after 2 years. My budget for a new automatic car is around โ‚น12L, but Iโ€™m unsure if anything in that range will match the comfort and driving feel of the Audi. Should I keep the Audi for a few more years or sell it now? Also, is it realistic to find another well-maintained luxury car in this price range later?

Your Audi A4 is over 10 years old, and as good as it may be to drive, it will not fetch great resale value.
On the flipside, no car in the Rs 10-12 lakh budget will give the power and feel of a well maintained luxury car. If you donโ€™t mind the potential degradation in resale value, you could keep your A4 for longer.
If you are more inclined to a new car purchase in the near future, you could consider the Skoda Kylaq AT. It's got a punchy engine and smooth gearbox, handles well and also delivers with a tough build. It feels like a European car and something we think you would value.

I am planning to buy a car. My maximum budget is Rs 10.5-11 lakh on-road. I am looking for an SUV with good performance, 5-star safety, and decent mileage. My monthly usage will be around 500 to 800 km, with a 1,000 km trip every three months. Should I choose diesel or petrol? I like turbo engines. My shortlist includes the XUV3XO Diesel or Petrol MX2, and the Skoda Kylaq Signature. I am concerned about Skodaโ€™s maintenance costs. Are there other options?

Your monthly usage isn't much, hence a diesel might not justify the premium it commands over a corresponding turbo-petrol. Between the two options shortlisted, the Skoda Kylaq feels a bit nicer and more fun to drive. While the Mahindra XUV 3XO isn't too far behind in terms of ride comfort and handling, it is the one to go for should you need to travel with 4 or 5 adults often, since it is more spacious. Otherwise, the Kylaq is a good option.

As far as maintenance goes, the Skoda's upkeep costs are similar to most other compact SUVs, and even parts are priced competitively due to the high levels of localization. Furthermore, Skoda has provided a service cost calculator on its website to give you an idea of how much you are likely to pay per service.

I am a senior citizen and have been driving manual cars for several decades. I am now looking for a compact automatic SUV-type car (no AMT) with a high safety rating, easy city handling, and the ability to do weekly road trips of about 200 km. The car should also offer good mileage, and either CNG or petrol automatic is fine. Once or twice a year, I also go on long multi-day road trips. Please suggest a suitable car.

The Skoda Kylaq would be a good option for you. The car is compact and thus easy to use in the city, while its ride and handling are safe and stable for your occasional highway runs too. It's safe and secured a 5-star rating in the BNCAP tests. The automatic gearbox is a torque converter unit, which is the smoothest type of autobox you can get this side of an EV.
The only negative is a cramped rear for tall adults; if this is an issue for you, consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. While the new model is yet to be crash tested, the previous version, on which it is based, had received a strong 4-star safety rating.

I want a torque-converter petrol automatic for daily commuting of around 40 km (mostly highway but often with city-like traffic congestion) and bimonthly hilly trips. I have been driving my friendโ€™s Kylaq frequently since its launch. My heart says Kylaq, but my brain suggests the Brezza. Decent mileage, handling, and reliability matter. Please suggest.

Yes, the Skoda Kylaq is the better as far as driving pleasure goes, while the Brezza has the Maruti advantage of good after-sales service, it's also more spacious inside, especially so at the rear, where the Kylaq has much less room.
So if rear space is important, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the way to go. If not, the Kylaq will do just fine and buying one isn't a risk as Skoda have made improvements to their service network and the cars are quite reliable too.

I want to buy an automatic SUV with a budget of โ‚น12-14 lakh. My daily city travel is about 40 km, and I do an outstation trip every three months, of around 250-400 km. Should I buy a diesel or petrol SUV?

Since your usage isn't particularly high, a petrol automatic would make sense. Not only will it be more refined than a diesel, but also be more affordable to purchase. Within your budget, there are plenty of options, with naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines and CVT, DCT, AMT and torque converter automatic gearbox options.

If you want a well-rounded SUV, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is the one to go for. It's got a spacious cabin, it comes loaded with features, and there are two petrol options as well. However, if you enjoy driving, you'll find good value in the Skoda Kylaq.

Hi, I own a Nexon EV, which is suitable for my daily drive of approximately 100 km. I want to buy a 4/5-star-rated automatic car that should be easy for my wife to drive in the city and can also be taken out of the city without worrying about range (like with an EV). I don't want an AMT. Mileage is not a concern. My current consideration set includes the Kylaq, Taigun, Elevate, Hyryder/Victoris, and Astor. I only want to spend 4 lakhs more than the Kylaq if there is a compelling case. Please advise.

Given your requirements, your best bet is probably the Skoda Kylaq. It has a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating, and is equipped with a 6-speed torque converter automatic that is smooth with its shifts. Plus, it's compact with light controls, so it should be easy to drive around town.
The Volkswagen Taigun is a good bet, but might not make a compelling enough case for the premium over the Kylaq, which shares the same platform, engine, and gearbox.
You could opt for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder or the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, but only if you want significantly higher mileage, but for that, the strong hybrid versions would require a stretch of the budget.

Iโ€™ve been driving a Honda City (manual, V) for ~7 years and have thoroughly loved it. Recently bought a Toyota Glanza AMT as a second car, but itโ€™s been underwhelming โ€” feels unstable at even moderate speeds, vague steering/handling, flimsy build (minor brushes cause dents), and struggles to reach triple digit speeds. Looking to replace it with a better-built, more planted automatic for spirited driving within โ‚น15โ€“17 lakh OTR (Gurgaon). What would you recommend?

Your best options include the Skoda Kylaq AT and Mahindra XUV 3XO AT. Both SUVs are built tough and deliver a solid feel on the go. The other reason both models stand out from the rest is the performance and driving thrills they deliver.
The Skoda Kylaq has the edge with slightly more enthusiastic handling, while the XUV 3XO lures with its more upmarket and roomier cabin. To find out which one better suits your needs, read our Skoda Kylaq vs Mahindra XUV 3XO article.

I plan to upgrade to a sub-4-metre SUV next year and am deciding between the top trims of the Skoda Kylaq and the new Hyundai Venue. My budget is โ‚น15โ€“18 lakh; the Kylaqโ€™s top trim is about โ‚น2 lakh cheaper than the Venueโ€™s. Should I pick the cheaper Kylaq top model or pay the extra โ‚น2 lakh for the Venue top trim for the additional features? Please compare value-for-money, features, reliability, after-sales service, resale value, and driving experience.

The Skoda Kylaq and Hyundai Venue are good options, and both have their own highlights. The differences between the two are clear if you consider like-priced variants, that is, Kylaq AT Prestige and Venue Turbo DCT HX8

The Kylaq feels tougher in its build and is the more exciting compact SUV to drive. The Venue, on the other hand, is pleasant to drive but feels more upmarket inside and gets more tech too.

The fully-loaded Venue HX10 does wow for all the new-age features it packs in. Level 2 ADAS, the slick curved displays, 360-degree camera and more do uplift the overall experience and make the Venue feel fresh and modern.

If you're someone who wants the latest and likes gadgets and gizmos, the jump to the top-spec version is worth it. However, if the features are things you can live without, the HX8 makes for a far better deal from the Venue range.

I'm planning to buy a small SUV and am torn between the Skoda Kylaq and the Honda Elevate. I drive about 1,000 km per month and my budget is up to โ‚น15 lakh. Which should I choose?

The Skoda Kylaq is a good choice for the budget. The Honda Elevate is larger and has more space, especially in the rear seat, but Rs 15 lakh will get you the 'V CVT', which isn't as well-equipped as the Kylaq, which can be had in top-spec guise.

If the rear-seat space is not a high priority, the Kylaq is a very good choice.
