Trending Questions on Skoda Kodiaq - Answered by Autocar Experts
I want to buy a seven-seater car in the ₹50-60 lakh budget range, with good mileage and power. Should I opt for the Fortuner or consider some other car?
While the Toyota Fortuner has strong road presence and a powerful image, it does not offer a premium and sophisticated experience that is expected of the price.
The Skoda Kodiaq would be a better choice as it has the right level of premiumness and performance, and is a lot more comfortable than the Fortuner. Mileage numbers will be similar for both SUVs, but the diesel engine in the Fortuner would be a bit easier on the pocket.
Our recommendation would be the Skoda Kodiaq as it offers better value and is a better product overall.
I currently drive a Tata Nexon and am planning to upgrade to a seven-seater. I have shortlisted the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline and Jeep Meridian Trail AT, but am confused about which one to finalise. I need expert advice on this. You may suggest any other seven-seater as well, except the Innova HyCross.
But if your objective is to travel with six or seven adults often, consider the MG Gloster and Toyota Fortuner, which are more spacious than the Skoda and Jeep. The Gloster has an edge over the Fortuner in terms of a more upmarket interior and better refinement.
I want to buy a premium 7-seater within a ₹40–45 lakh budget. My shortlisted cars are the Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and MG Gloster. I’ve heard reliability concerns about the Meridian and Gloster. The Kodiaq’s AC performance is reportedly weak, and the Fortuner’s ride quality is said to be poor. Given these issues, which one should I choose?
You have correctly identified each SUV's weakness; thus, it really boils down to which of these is the least worry for you. On the whole, the Skoda Kodiaq is something you could consider, unlike the other car's weaknesses.
Also, you could offset the lower AC performance of the Skoda with good habits like parking the car with a sunshade and also using window blinds.
If you are open to looking at an EV, we would recommend you look at the Ioniq 5. It isn't a three-row vehicle, but it addresses all of the weaknesses you have mentioned in the other cars in your shortlist.
My budget is Rs 60-80 lakh. I currently own a 2019 Harrier. The Fortuner seems like the most viable option right now, but its interiors feel outdated. Does it make sense to wait for upcoming models, such as the Hyundai Palisade or Santa Fe? Are there any other options?
I’m confused between the Skoda Kodiaq Lounge and the Toyota Hycross ZX. What should I pick if I’ll be driving 50% of the time, and being driven by a chauffeur the other 50%?
The Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota Innova Hycross are very different products, and your choice depends on factors you'll give more weightage to.
The Skoda Kodiaq is significantly pricier but offers a significantly more upmarket interior. Interior quality is as good as many luxury cars, and there are lots of features and goodies packed in, too. The Kodiaq is also the more entertaining vehicle to drive. Its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivers strong performance, which is something you'll appreciate when you drive. Rear seat comfort is good, but the Innova Hycross has the edge here.
The Innova Hycross has a roomier cabin, and the middle row seating is more comfortable. The legrests on the captain seat versions count for a lot to up comfort levels when you are sitting at the back. Also, thanks to the strong hybrid powertrain, the Hycross is significantly more efficient than a Kodiaq. Also, purchase price aside, regular maintenance in the long run will also work out cheaper on the Toyota. On the flip side, while the Hycross' EV mode is unique, the Toyota is essentially unexciting to drive.
I drive 20-30km on weekends within the city with my family of four. My budget is ₹20-50 lakh. I want a smooth, reliable, self-driven car with luxurious interiors and a wow factor for my teenage kids. I prefer petrol vehicles and am slightly averse to EVs due to reports of battery issues and fire hazards. Suggest to me which SUV or car I should go for, considering there’s less innovation in the latter segment?
I currently own three cars: a Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, a Nexon EV, and a 2015 Honda City diesel. I plan to sell the City and buy a new 7-seater SUV. My budget is ₹50 lakh. Which SUV do you suggest? Options I'm considering or willing to wait for include MG Majestor, Hyundai Palisade, Skoda Kodiaq, Fortuner, and BMW X1. Which SUV do you recommend?
I’m planning to buy a third car but torn between the Mercedes GLA (luxury) and the Škoda Kodiaq (premium and larger). I already have a Honda City 5th Gen and a Toyota Hycross Hybrid. Which one makes more sense to buy?
A Skoda Kodiaq is better equipped, more spacious, and it is more powerful than the Mercedes GLA petrol. A Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is also something you can consider, which is a bit sportier to drive than the Kodiaq, and now with huge discounts, is a tempting option.
Hello, I am planning to upgrade my 2019 Kia Seltos GTX Plus petrol manual to a more premium SUV. I was considering the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, but after the launch of the Tiguan R-Line, I really liked it. My only concern is the price since it is a CBU. After the GST revision, I was able to get a deal for ₹52 lakh on road. I would like your advice on whether I should go ahead and buy it. My concerns are whether I will get enough support from VW India regarding parts, and also the resale value. Kindly advise.
The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is enjoyable to drive but is undoubtedly expensive. Regular maintenance should not be a problem, but the availability of parts could be an issue in case of accident repairs. Expensive imported cars also typically do not retain their value unless there is special market interest.
As an alternative, consider the Skoda Kodiaq, which is essentially the same car underneath but offers more features and a generally plusher interior. Parts availability will also be better for the Kodiaq.
If driving experience is a priority, the Audi Q3 is also worth considering. It may not be cutting-edge inside, but it is engaging to drive with a strong petrol engine. With the next-generation Q3 expected in India next year, you could push for big discounts on the current model.
