Mahindra XEV 9e Range

The widest gap between claimed and real range in the XEV 9e range shows up on the larger 79kWh pack. ARAI certifies it at 656km, but we recorded closer to 456km in everyday driving. That gap matters on a mid-size electric SUV bought partly for long trips. The smaller 59kWh pack is ARAI-certified at 542km, and while its capacity is lower, it shares much of the bigger pack’s charging behaviour.
 

• 59kWh battery: 542km ARAI-certified range

• 79kWh battery: 656km ARAI-certified range, with real-world range closer to 456km

• DC fast charging from 20 to 80 percent takes around 20 minutes on both packs, at 140kW for the 59kWh battery and 180kW for the 79kWh

• AC charging from 0 to 100 percent takes 6 to 8 hours on an 11.2kW charger. On a 7.2kW charger it takes 8.7 to 11.7 hours, depending on battery size

• There is no real-world range figure for the 59kWh battery here. Only the 79kWh version has been tested
   

Getting closer to the certified number on either pack comes down to a few habits. Use the highest regeneration setting available. Keep highway speeds moderate, since sustained high speed drains an EV faster than anything else. Precondition the battery before a DC fast-charging stop to cut the time spent there. Smooth, early braking that leans on regeneration rather than the friction brakes narrows the gap between the XEV 9e’s certified and real-world range in 2026.
