I’m planning my first car for family use (5 members) with a budget under ₹15 lakh. I need a reliable, low-maintenance compact SUV with decent mileage and comfortable front and rear seating. I’m learning to drive, so supportive features for beginners are important. Expected usage is ~500 km per month plus quarterly trips of about 500 km. I’m considering options like the Citroen Aircross X, Kia Seltos, Sonet, Creta, or the upcoming Duster. Please suggest.

Out of the cars you have shortlisted, we suggest the Citroen Aircross X. Even the top variant fits within your budget, and the car itself is a well-rounded product. It is comfortable thanks to supportive seats front and back, and there is ample space. The wide cabin also allows five people to sit comfortably.

Another good five-seater in your budget is the Mahindra 3XO. Its wide and spacious cabin seats five in good comfort, and its shorter length makes it easier to park. However, the boot is on the smaller side, which you should keep in mind.

Regarding the upcoming Renault Duster, it is one of the most anticipated launches early next year. If you are willing to wait and check it out before deciding, it would make a lot of sense.

I am planning to buy a new petrol automatic car with a budget of ₹15-17 lakh. My usage is mostly city driving, and I prioritise efficiency over features and aesthetics, as long as the performance is good. I’m considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kylaq. I also like the Toyota Hyryder for its hybrid efficiency, but it exceeds my budget. Which car would suit me best?

All the compact SUV options you've listed are powered by turbo-petrol engines, and since you are looking for efficiency, be warned, in typical city driving (stop-go conditions), these turbo-petrol engines aren't likely to be very efficient.

Also, these are very sensitive to the driving style and ambient conditions, which can drop the mileage down to single digits. Among the options you've listed, the Mahindra XUV3XO 1.2 Turbo (MPI) AT is likely to satiate your need for performance while offering a smoother and comfortable experience overall.

Another option you may consider is the Citroen Basalt X/Aircross X, provided there is a Citroen touchpoint in your city. However, if you want to keep the running costs down at all costs without sacrificing performance, go for the Tata Nexon EV 45.

I am a retired executive looking for an SUV for city driving and occasional long-distance trips. Between the Citroen Aircross and the Honda Elevate, which would you recommend? My budget is around ₹14 lakh.

The Honda Elevate would be a better choice between the two. It has a smooth and refined petrol engine that has more power than the Citroen Aircross, and the CVT gearbox is excellent in the city. Also, it is a well-sorted car that will do the job without any drama.

The equipment kit and the ride comfort are also good, while not as good as the Aircross, it is still quite nice. Honda cars are also better in terms of their network, and after-sales touchpoints. Moreover, it also holds its future value better than the Aircross.

I need help choosing a new car with a budget of ₹10-15 lakh. Ride comfort is my top priority - I’m 6 ft tall and broad-shouldered, and I need a car that’s comfortable for long 1,000 km drives. My next priorities are engine performance, tech & lifestyle features, and then boot space. Which cars should I consider?

The Citroen Aircross X will suit your needs the best. It has a superb ride that is comfy and adept over bad roads. The space inside the cabin is large enough for tall adults, and it is ergonomically sorted as well.

The turbo-petrol engine offers strong performance, and it has all the necessary tech as well. The Aircross is also a three-row SUV, but a good feature is that you can remove the third row entirely and use the space as a big boot.

My budget is ₹12-15 lakh. I need a car for a family of five, with priorities in this order: safety, reliability, comfort on bad roads, value for money, and highway comfort. I’m not keen on gimmicky features. I’m leaning toward the Citroen Aircross X but also considering the 3XO, Taisor, and Honda City.

We suggest going for the Citroen Aircross X or the Basalt as they are larger than the Mahindra 3XO, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor or even the Honda City.
Both are these Citroen cars are spacious, have excellent ride quality, and offer great comfort in the front and rear seats. The turbo petrol engine has ample power for city and highway use, and the massive boot adds to its practicality. While it misses out on a few features compared to the Mahindra XUV 3XO, it more than makes up for it with comfort and practicality, which perfectly suit your needs.

Please suggest a low-budget 7-seater SUV.

The most affordable 7-seater car currently available is the Renault Triber, though it’s technically an MPV. Since you want an SUV, the most affordable option will be the Citroen Aircross X.
The Citroen stands out for its innovative packaging (removable third-row seats), smooth turbo-petrol engine, and composed road manners. You could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga as an alternative.

Hi team, I’m planning to sell my 2020 Kia Seltos (manual) due to unforeseen circumstances and traffic issues. I’m getting around ₹7-7.5 lakh for it and can add another ₹7-8 lakh at most for a good automatic car with modern features. I’ve explored the Sonet, Syros, Altroz, Aircross, Kylaq, and Baleno, but I’m quite confused. What would you recommend as the best option in this budget?

Among your shortlisted options, the Citroen Aircross is the biggest, most comfortable, and nicest to drive. The company has recently updated the interiors, making them far more upmarket than before. However, opt for it only if you have a Citroen service centre nearby, as the brand’s dealer network is still limited.
If you don’t need such a large car, then opt for the Kia Sonet. It offers a similar experience to your Kia Seltos with the added convenience of an automatic transmission.

Hi, I currently own an Xcent SX O and am looking for a change. My options are Kia Carens, Citroen Aircross X, and Victoris. I drive about 4,000 km annually and have elderly people at home. I liked Citron very much, but I want to know about the company’s future, performance, and stability.

Citroen is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future, but the only concern could be a relative lack of aftersales and service touchpoints, depending on where you live.

The Citroen Aircross X is fundamentally a good product, especially after the recent update, offering a punchy petrol engine and superbly comfortable ride.

However, given you have elderly people as passengers, the Kia Carens Clavis might be a better option, as it has easier ingress and egress, and a more accessible seating height.

I currently drive a manual Baleno and am considering upgrading to a reliable automatic SUV for easier ingress and egress. I prefer a 360° camera, but I would like to avoid a sunroof, as I feel it's a costly feature that I won't use. Please suggest a car with good city mileage and an on-road price below ₹18 lakh.

Automatic options without a sunroof but equipped with a factory-fitted 360-degree camera include the Maruti XL6 and the Citroen Aircross X. The XL6, being an MPV, offers smooth, comfortable, and the assurance of Maruti’s reliability. What's nice is that ingress and egress is a breeze. with an all-new more (than before) upmarket interior and excellent driving dynamics. It delivers stronger performance, though its fuel efficiency may not match that of the XL6.

I'm seeking a car that suits my driving style, which can be a bit rough at times. My requirements include strong pickup and torque, and ample boot space. I drive approximately 30 km daily in the city and undertake highway drives of around 100 km twice a week. My budget is between ₹8 lakh and ₹15 lakh, and I'm open to both new and used options. Could you recommend suitable models?

If by rough driving you mean regularly encountering bad roads, you can consider the Citroen Aircross X - it has a brilliant suspension setup. However, choose it only if a Citroen service centre is available in your city. The Mahindra XUV3XO and Tata Nexon are also rugged compact SUVs with turbo petrol engines - the Mahindra offers a stronger engine, while the Nexon comes with a relatively bigger boot. Among used options, the Jeep Compass is worth considering.
