Toyota currently sells four rebadged Maruti models in India – Glanza, Hyryder, Taisor and Rumion – and together, they make up as much as 54 percent of Toyota’s total sales in the country. The Hyryder midsize SUV (rebadged Grand Vitara) is the highest selling model, accounting for up to 37 percent of these models.

  2. Fortuner ranks fourth in terms of overall sales
  3. Toyota recorded 33 percent YoY growth between April and November 2024

In fact, the share of Maruti-rebadged models in Toyota's sales is only increasing. In April this year, it accounted for 44 percent of total sales, which went up to 52 percent by August 2024.

Share of Maruti-badged models in Toyota’s lineup

Following Toyota's global product-sharing pact with Suzuki, Maruti-rebadged models have paid off handsomely for Toyota in India. The four rebadged models saw cumulative wholesales of 1,09,352 units between April and November 2024, accounting for 54 percent of Toyota’s total wholesales of 2,03,555 units (up 33 percent YoY).

In FY2024, the Glanza, with 52,262 units, was ahead of the Hyryder (48,916 units). However, in the first eight months of the current fiscal, the Hyryder has overtaken the Glanza. With the overall hatchback industry seeing a slump, the latter's sales have fallen, too. The Hyryder was also the second-highest selling model overall, accounting for 20 percent of total sales between April and November 2024.

Meanwhile, the Taisor compact SUV – launched this April with deliveries beginning in May – has clocked cumulative seven-month wholesales of 20,208 units till end-November 2024. The Rumion MPV racked up 14,267 units between April and November, 2024.

Toyota Innova twins continue to be the top seller

The Innova Crysta and Hycross continue to be the biggest contributors to Toyota’s sales. At an estimated 69,419 units, they account for 34 percent of the company’s total wholesale despatches till end-November 2024. The Innova Hycross completed two years last month and crossed 1,00,000 wholesale units, highlighting the sustained demand for the MPV across the country, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. The Fortuner with over 21,000 units was ranked fourth in terms of overall sales.

In the first eight months of the ongoing fiscal, Toyota has despatched an estimated 2,03,555 units, which constitutes a strong 33 percent year-on-year growth (April-November 2023: 1,52,758 units). This results in average monthly sales of 25,444 units in April-November 2024, compared to 19,094 units in the year-ago period.
