The upcoming Tata Harrier EV will be the first vehicle from the brand to feature an all-wheel drive system ever since the discontinuation of the Safari Storme in 2020. This is thanks to the Harrier EV’s dual-motor setup, which also makes it the first mainstream EV with a 4WD configuration. Ahead of its launch on June 3, Tata Motors has released a video of the Harrier EV undertaking an off-road challenge, previewing some of the off-road features on the electric SUV. Let’s take a closer look.

  1. Harrier EV gets dual-motor setup with over 500Nm of torque
  2. Gets offroad creep function and driving modes
  3. Price announcement is scheduled for June 3

Dual motors producing over 500Nm of torque

The Harrier EV employs two electric motors – one on each axle – and while exact specifications are yet to be revealed, Tata had said both motors together will produce over 500Nm of torque. The promotional video reveals that the Harrier EV will have an offroad assist mode – think of it as an offroad creep function with a preset speed. The 360-degree camera setup also enables a transparent bonnet view, which is a feature seen on much more expensive SUVs.

Another feature revealed in the video are offroad modes, including snow, sand and a dedicated rock crawl mode, that’s accessed via the rotary drive selector on the centre console. It also gets a dedicated road mode and what appears to be a custom mode. There are also dedicated buttons for Eco and Boost modes, with the latter likely serving as a low-range mode like in ICE-powered 4x4s. For reference, the diesel-powered Harrier gets Normal, Wet and Rough drive modes.

Tata Harrier EV specs and expected price

Could be priced between Rs 25-30 lakh (ex-showroom)

We’ll have to wait for exact specifications to be officially revealed along with its price, but the company says the Harrier EV will have over 500km of range in a single charge. In the video, we can even see a glimpse of the instrument cluster indicating a range of 560km with 90 percent charge.

Upon launch, the Harrier EV will be brand’s new flagship EV, sitting above the Curvv EV. It is likely that the dual-motor AWD configuration could be reserved for top-spec variants, while lower-spec variants could feature a single motor setup. We expect prices to range between Rs 25-30 lakh (ex-showroom), and it will be positioned to rival the likes of the Mahindra XEV 9e and BYD Atto 3.
