Skoda India has confirmed the launch of the Kushaq 1.5 TSI Style AT with additional safety features, via their official Twitter handle. The updated, top-spec Kushaq will launch in the first half of next month, with deliveries set to commence by the end of November.

  • Kushaq 1.5 TSI DSG to get 6 airbags and TPMS
  • Currently only Kushaq Style MT gets these safety features
  • Expected to be priced over Rs 18 lakh

Skoda Kushaq 1.5 TSI Style AT: more details

As we reported in September, Skoda was planning to introduce a safety feature update on the Kushaq’s 1.5 TSI Style AT variant. Since its launch, only the Style 1.5 TSI manual variant was equipped with six airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), with the DSG variant featuring just dual airbags, in a bid to keep the price in check.

Now though, Skoda will also equip the DSG variant of the Kushaq with these additional safety features. However, this update will inevitably increase the price of the Kushaq 1.5 Style automatic. The variant is currently priced at Rs 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom, India), so one can expect the price to cross the Rs 18-lakh mark with this update.

Skoda Kushaq: engine and gearbox details

The Skoda Kushaq is available with two petrol engine options – a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI. The smaller capacity engine is available on all three trims of the Kushaq, while the 1.5-litre TSI is reserved only for the Style trim.

In terms of output, the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI unit produces 115hp and 178Nm, while the larger 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI unit develops 150hp and 250Nm. Both engines get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Automatic gearbox options include a 6-speed torque converter for the 1.0 TSI and a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic for the 1.5 TSI.

Skoda in India: upcoming launches

Skoda’s next major launch in India will be an all-new midsize sedan, which has been dubbed as the Slavia. The upcoming sedan will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which also underpins the Kushaq, and will be launched sometime in early 2022. Skoda also has the facelifted Kodiaq petrol on the cards for India, which will arrive sometime next year.
