Nissan India is slated to debut the Tekton on July 9, 2026. The SUV’s unveiling will mark the carmaker’s return to the midsize SUV space after the discontinuation of the Kicks in 2023. Essentially, the Tekton will be Nissan’s badge-engineered version of the Renault Duster sold in our market.

  1. Tekton’s exterior takes cues from the flagship Patrol SUV
  2. To borrow powertrain options from the Renault Duster

Nissan Tekton: Everything you need to know

The Tekton will share its underpinnings and powertrains with the Duster. These include the 100hp, 166Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 163hp, 280Nm 1.3-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol options. While a 6-speed manual is standard for both, the more powerful unit is also offered with a 6-speed DCT. It remains to be seen whether the Duster’s 160hp, 172Nm 1.8-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine, paired with an e-CVT, makes its way into the Tekton.

Last year, Nissan partially revealed the Tekton’s exterior, which looks quite different from the Duster’s. Its fascia, inspired by the brand’s flagship Patrol SUV, gets LED headlamps, connected LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), a wide grille with two chrome strips and a dual-tone bumper. The side profile is nearly identical to that of the Duster, featuring flared wheel arches, a black trim on the front doors and rear door handles integrated into the window. However, its alloy wheels will get a unique design and are expected to be 18 inches in size. The highlights on the rear include a connected LED tail-lamp setup, a roof-mounted spoiler and a dual-tone look for the bumper. But the tailgate will have a single-tone finish, unlike the Duster’s two-tone look.

As for the Tekton’s interior, the cabin layout is expected to be distinct from the Duster, though its feature set could be similar. The Duster comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate and 6-way powered and ventilated front seats. A 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS could potentially be part of the safety equipment.

Nissan Tekton expected price and rivals

The Tekton is expected to be priced similarly to the Duster, which starts at Rs 10.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.49 lakh for the top-spec variant. Apart from the Duster, the Tekton will take on other midsize SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Maruti’s Grand Vitara and Victoris, Tata’s Sierra and Curvv, and Citroen’s Aircross and Basalt.
