Cars with dealer-fitted CNG kit

With diesel-powered cars becoming an increasingly rare breed, CNG cars are rapidly rising in popularity. While some automakers offer this feature as a factory fitment, this list covers cars that come with a dealer-equipped CNG kit. The models have been arranged according to the price of the kit, from highest to lowest.

9. Honda Elevate

Honda dealerships are offering the Elevate with a Lovato CNG kit for Rs 99,000, which includes the kit warranty of 3 years/1,20,000km. The kit is only offered on select trims, such as V and VX, and exclusively with the manual transmission.

According to dealer sources, the Elevate CNG’s power output is comparable to the Elevate petrol’s. The latter uses a 121hp 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, mated to either a 6-speed MT or a CVT. The Honda Elevate CNG is priced between Rs 13,05,000 and Rs 14,70,000, including the cost of the CNG conversion.

8. Honda Amaze

The Amaze is also offered with a Honda dealer-fit CNG kit – again in collaboration with Lovato and costing Rs 99,000. Just like the Elevate, the Honda Amaze CNG is available solely in MT guise and limited to V and VX trim levels.

While exact power figures for the CNG version aren’t available, the Amaze petrol’s 1.2-litre 4-cylinder mill makes 90hp. The transmission options include a 5-speed MT and a CVT. Taking into account the cost of conversion, the price of the Honda Amaze CNG ranges from Rs 8,48,000 to Rs 9,49,000.

7. Citroen Aircross

Citroen dealers are offering a Lovato CNG kit priced at Rs 98,000, inclusive of a 3-year/1,00,000km warranty, for the Aircross. The Citroen Aircross CNG is priced from Rs 5,78,000 to Rs 8,21,000 and is available in You and Plus trim levels.

The CNG conversion is only applicable to cars paired with a manual gearbox. Meanwhile, the standard Aircross is also offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Under the bonnet of the petrol-only model is a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine that’s available in 82hp and 110hp guises.

6. Citroen C3

The C3 also uses a Lovato CNG kit that costs Rs 98,000. Like the Aircross, only the MT versions of the C3 are available for conversion. But while the Aircross CNG is limited to just a few trim levels, the Citroen C3 customers can choose from four.

As for its price, the C3 CNG costs between Rs 5,78,000 and Rs 8,21,000. Citroen hasn’t yet revealed the exact power output of the CNG variant. However, the C3 petrol buyers can choose from two 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engines offering 82hp and 110hp, respectively.

5. Renault Kiger

The Kiger is available with a Minda CNG conversion kit that costs Rs 84,360 and is backed by a 3-year/1,00,000km warranty. The Renault Kiger CNG is only offered with the base 1.0-litre engine and 5-speed manual gearbox, regardless of the trim level. Despite being a retrofit, there is no noticeable drop in engine output, dealer sources told us.

The Renault Kiger CNG variants cost between Rs 6,60,660 and Rs 9,21,360. The petrol-only Kiger gets a 72hp 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine or a 100hp 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged unit. Transmission options include a 5-speed MT, a 5-speed AMT and a CVT.

4. Renault Triber

The Renault Triber CNG is priced between Rs 6,60,660 and Rs 8,75,560. It is equipped with the same conversion kit manufactured by Minda and backed by the same warranty as the Kiger. All trim levels of the Triber are available for conversion, but the powertrain is limited to the 1.0-litre engine and 5-speed MT. Customers of the petrol-only version are also offered a 5-speed AMT. In the regular Triber, the 3-cylinder engine produces 72hp and 96Nm of torque.

3. Renault Kwid

For the extremely budget-conscious buyers, Renault also offers the Kwid with the CNG kit. The conversion costs Rs 84,360, which means the Kwid CNG is priced between Rs 5,14,260 and Rs 6,22,260. The French automaker offers all trims for this conversion, so buyers won’t miss out on any features that are offered with the regular Kwid.

Speaking of which, the petrol-only Renault Kwid comes with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder mill that develops 69hp. The only transmission available with the Renault Kwid CNG is a 5-speed manual, though the petrol-only model also gets the option of a 5-speed AMT.

2. Kia Carens

The Carens is offered with a Lovato CNG kit fitted by official Kia dealers. The conversion cost is Rs 77,900, so the Kia Carens CNG is priced at Rs 10.99 lakh. Only the Premium (O) trim is available in CNG guise.

As per dealer sources, the Carens CNG’s power output ranges between 95hp and 100hp. For context, the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine in the standard Carens produces 115hp. The sole gearbox offered with the CNG version is a 6-speed manual.

1. Nissan Magnite

The Nissan Magnite is available with a Motozen CNG conversion kit that costs Rs 72,000 and comes with a 3-year/1,00,000km warranty. The Magnite CNG is offered in 11 variants, with prices ranging between Rs 6,36,642 and Rs 9,70,000.

There are no official power figures for the CNG version of the Magnite provided by Nissan yet. However, the standard Magnite makes 72hp from its 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. Unlike some of the cars on this list, the Nissan Magnite CNG isn’t limited to just one gearbox. It is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
