Hi Team, I’ve finally decided to go ahead with the Tata Harrier Adventure X+ Diesel AT instead of the petrol variant. I was previously a WagonR owner, and for the last three years, I’ve been driving a VW Taigun 1.5 MT Petrol. My only concern with switching to a diesel is the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). My running is around 500 km per week, so I believe that should be sufficient, but I’m still not entirely clear about the DPF requirements. Does a diesel car need to be driven every day, or is regular weekly running of around 500 km enough to keep the DPF healthy? I’d also like to know about real-world experiences with diesel cars, particularly regarding DPF regeneration and maintenance. I’d really appreciate any suggestions or experiences you can share. Also, I’m a big fan of the Harrier. I did consider the 7-seater, but honestly, it feels a bit too long for my preference and has more of a “taxi” feel to it. The 5-seater Harrier looks much more proportionate and suits my taste better. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

With 500km a week, you are well above the threshold where DPF becomes a concern. The DPF is designed to capture soot from the exhaust and then burn it off during a process called regeneration. This regeneration typically happens automatically when the engine reaches operating temperature and is held there for a sustained period, usually during a 15-20 minute drive at steady speeds. Your weekly running is more than sufficient for this. You do not need to drive the car every day. What matters is that the car gets regular runs where the engine is warm and running at a consistent speed. Short, stop-start city trips are what cause issues, not the frequency of use. As long as your usage includes some highway or longer stretches, the DPF will regenerate as intended. In real-world experience, modern Diesel cars are far less fussy about DPF than people fear. The issues tend to arise only with very low-mileage, purely urban cars. With your usage, the Tata Harrier Adventure X Diesel AT is a perfectly sensible choice. It is a strong, refined engine with good long-distance capability, and the automatic gearbox is well suited to both city and highway driving. The Harrier is also the right choice from a proportion and feel perspective. The Tata Safari is a good car, but if you do not need the third row, the Harrier is the more balanced and better-looking option.Go for the Harrier diesel without hesitation. Your usage is exactly what modern diesels are designed for.

I want to swap my Tata Harrier Diesel AT 2022 model, which has done 45,000 km, with a Jeep Compass Limited AT 2022 model, which has done 30,000 km. My driving is mostly in the city. Is it a wise decision? I am being told that the maintenance costs of the Compass are very high.

Your Tata Harrier is powered by the same 2.0 diesel engine as the Jeep Compass; however, while the Harrier gets a 6-speed torque converter, the Jeep uses a 9-speeder which isn't as responsive as the Tata's.Sure, the Compass is a more premium-feeling SUV with a better-finished cabin and a more compact footprint, which can be helpful in the city. However, it is not significantly more refined or easier to live with than the Harrier, and even spare and maintenance costs for the Compass are higher than average.Given that your Harrier is a 2022 model with 45,000 km, and the Compass is also a 2022 model with 30,000 km, the swap only makes sense if you are getting a very favourable financial deal. Otherwise, you are merely exchanging one diesel SUV for another.

Hi Team, I am currently driving a 2020 Maruti Suzuki Baleno and am planning to upgrade to an SUV. My shortlisted options are the Honda Elevate, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV 7XO. My daily drive involves around 35 to 40 kms in heavy Bangalore city traffic, along with occasional highway trips. My primary priority is a car with a solid 5-star safety rating, along with good ride comfort and easy city drivability. Coming from a lightweight hatchback, I am looking for an option that offers a clear step up in safety and space without feeling overly cumbersome during my daily urban commute. Could you please evaluate these three models based on my usage and suggest the best option and engine-transmission combination for me?

I have 2022 grand i10 nios and I want to upgrade and my budget is 20 lakhs around, I like harrier a lot, Should i go with that base dark variant or with some other compact SUV. My preferences are safety, looks, good feel and performance. Kindly suggest

I am planning to buy the Tata Harrier Adventure X Plus Dark Petrol Manual, and I booked it two months ago. However, I am not sure whether I will receive the car within the promised timeline. Should I continue waiting, or should I start looking at other available options? Also, could you tell me the expected waiting period for the above-mentioned Harrier variant? My annual running is roughly 6,000 km, and the Harrier's size and space suit my requirements well.

With a running of just 6,000 km a year, a petrol engine is the right choice, and the Harrier petrol is a good fit if you like the size and space. The bigger question is the waiting period. Tata’s official waiting periods can vary by city and dealer, but for the Harrier petrol, it is not unusual to see waits of 2-3 months depending on demand and allocation. If your dealer is already saying it may not arrive on time, it is worth checking with other Tata dealers in your city to see if they have a shorter queue or a cancelled booking in the same variant. If you are happy with the Harrier’s space and comfort, it is worth waiting a few more weeks rather than switching to a different car. The only reason to change would be if you need the car urgently. In that case, the Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol is the closest alternative.
