Pick the Creta Electric. For your Rs 25-27 lakh budget, it is the safest bet, and Hyundai’s huge service network will make long-term ownership hassle free. As an EV, it is smooth, quiet and quick enough, and Hyundai’s software and battery management have been trouble-free for most owners, which matters more than a flash spec sheet five years down the line. It is also known to reliably deliver the closest real-world range to its official rating amongst its peers, thanks to a highly efficient powertrain. The Harrier EV and XEV 9S are tempting for space and power, but are likely to sit higher than your budget and have been known to have some niggles especially in the software and electronics departments. The Sierra EV has now been launched and is certainly worth considering. It offers a larger battery, a spacious cabin and a premium overall package. However, being a brand-new product, we'd prefer to wait and see how it settles in before recommending it over the more established Creta Electric. You should also expect a waiting period on popular variants.Another EV you could consider is the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. Though not as spacious as the others, nor as efficient, being from the house of Maruti Suzuki, it is expected to offer hassle-free reliability and a smooth ownership experience.

Pick the Kia Seltos HTK(O) IVT. With 40 km of city use every day, it is the easiest to live with - the CVT automatic is smooth in traffic, steering is light, the ride is comfy, and it will likely use less fuel than a Tata Harrier petrol. For your 600 km runs every 2-3 months, it cruises quietly, feels relaxed, and the back seat is spacious too.The Hyundai Creta S(O) automatic comes close, but it isn't as well-equipped or as new as the Seltos. The Harrier petrol Pure X manual is the wrong fit here. It is larger and heavier, the manual will tire you in stop-and-go traffic, and it also takes more effort to park in tight city spots.One trade-off with the Seltos IVT - it does not have the performance of the Harrier petrol or the turbo petrol version of the Seltos.

It is easy to drive in town, the 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine is refined, the CVT automatic is smooth in traffic, and feels steady on the highway. More importantly for you, it is packed with technology and convenience features. You get twin screens, a clear 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats and ADAS features, and Kia also has a strong service network in most cities.Two things to note: it won't have the performance of the turbo petrol, and the back seat is not as wide as the Tata Harrier or 7XO if you often seat three adults. If you want a more powerful and a bigger car, look at the Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol automatic, although the variant with the features you want may stretch beyond your budget. Overall, the Seltos lines up best for your needs and features focus.

The Hyundai Creta Electric Excellence LR is the one that fits your brief best. It fits within your price range, and it has a cabin that is comfy and easy to live with for a family of four. Also, Hyundai’s EVs are usually very refined and smooth to drive in traffic, which matches your focus on a calm, polished experience.Two things to keep in mind for your needs. First, in this budget, a true 500 km in real use is tough. The Creta Electric may have a claimed range of 473km (ARAI), but we managed to get a real-world figure of 432km in our testing. Second, fast charging speeds on mid-price EVs like the Creta are usually modest, so plan stops on longer trips accordingly.The Tata Harrier EV will suit you only if you can stretch the budget. Being a bigger car with a larger battery, it will be roomier inside and offer more range. The Tata Sierra EV is worth waiting for only if you love the look and want a roomier cabin. But prices, exact specifications and launch timing are not final yet.

If you found the Hyundai Creta the most comfortable but too dated, the obvious answer is the new Kia Seltos. It gives you that same relaxed, easy-going ride but is more spacious than the Creta and feels more modern and upmarket inside, which will make your frequent Jaipur-Delhi runs nicer to live with.Given your usage is mainly highway with the Polo handling city duty, we would strongly recommend the 1.5 turbo-petrol Seltos. It has a strong mid-range punch, plenty of torque for effortless overtakes, and cruises very comfortably, which is exactly what you want for long, fast runs.The new Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Renault Duster are all very good to drive on the highway and dynamically more engaging, but as you’ve noticed, their rear seats are tighter for three adults across, and that’s a compromise on long trips with family. That’s where the Seltos scores: it strikes the best balance between space, comfort and a properly fresh cabin.
