Exterior Design And Engineering

8

The Curvv EV carries over most of its concept car design elements. The familiar Tata front includes a thin LED light bar, closed-off grille (with charging port hidden behind the logo), and a sleek, chrome-trimmed airdam. Flush-fitting, illuminated door handles, a sloping coupe-like roofline, gloss black cladding, and 18-inch aero wheels enhance the stylish look. At the rear, there’s a full-width LED bar and a raked tailgate, though this hampers rear visibility and omits a washer/wiper. The Curvv EV comes in five paint options, with the “Virtual Sunrise” shade standing out. Tata also debuts a premium-looking new key fob.

Dimensionally, it’s larger than the Nexon EV but slightly smaller than the MG ZS EV. It offers a 186mm ground clearance (190mm for the 45 variant), segment-best 18-inch wheels, 50:50 weight distribution, and 450mm water wading capacity. It’s built on Tata’s Acti.ev platform, which allows a 11.6-litre frunk and 500-litre boot, expandable via split-folding seats.

Interior Space And Comfort

7

The cabin shares much with the Nexon EV – dual screens, gloss black HVAC panel – but gets a new 4-spoke steering wheel and a textured dash. Light grey and ivory tones brighten up the space, though they’re hard to maintain. Front seats offer excellent comfort, ventilation, and electric adjustment.

However, practicality takes a hit – poor cupholder placement, hard-to-reach USB/12V ports, and limited armrest storage. The thick steering wheel isn’t the nicest to hold and has a sharp edge on the horn pad.

Rear legroom improves thanks to a longer wheelbase than the Nexon, but headroom suffers due to the sloping roofline. The reclining backrest and scooped headliner help, but taller passengers may struggle. Under-thigh support is also limited. Rear occupants get vents, USB-C port, and armrest with cupholders.

Performance And Refinement

7

The front-mounted motor puts out 167hp (55 variant) and 215Nm. There are three drive modes – Eco, City, and Sport – with Sport offering the sharpest throttle response and a higher top speed of 160kph. We clocked a 0-100kph time of 9.6sec, slightly slower than Tata’s 8.6sec claim.

Eco and City offer more restrained but usable performance, with our 0-100kph test in Eco mode coming in at 11.6sec. NVH levels are well controlled. Fast charging is now improved – 70kW DC support for a 10-80% top-up in 40 minutes. A 7.2kW AC charger takes 8 hours for a full charge. It also supports standard 15A wall sockets. Regen braking has four levels, with one-pedal driving enabled in the highest setting.

Tata claims 400-425km under the C75 cycle. In our real-world test, we kept the car in Eco mode with regen set to Level 2 (city) and Level 1 (highway). We achieved 6.64km/kWh combined efficiency, translating to a real-world range of 365km.

Ride Comfort And Handling

8

The Curvv rides firmly at low speeds but feels composed as you go faster. Suspension absorbs bumps well but is audible over sharp edges. Handling is tidy, body roll is controlled, and the steering – though slightly heavy – feels direct. Cabin insulation is also impressive.

Features And Safety

9

The Curvv EV is loaded. The 12.3-inch infotainment screen (shared with Nexon EV) includes Tata’s arcade.ev suite for streaming and gaming apps. The 10.25-inch digital cluster is colourful but cluttered. A neat addition is the blind view monitor, which can display in either screen.

New features include a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, gesture-controlled electric tailgate, a pedestrian warning sound, and Level 2 ADAS – the lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise worked well during our drive. Other highlights: JBL 9-speaker audio, 360-degree camera, cooled wireless charging, leatherette upholstery, connected car tech, V2V and V2L capabilities.

Top trims get six airbags, ESP, front and rear parking sensors, hill-assist, hill-descent control, and all-wheel disc brakes. The Curvv EV also gets a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.

Value For Money

7

Priced between Rs 17.49-22.24 lakh (ex-showroom), the Curvv EV offers a significant step up from the Nexon EV and still manages to undercut the MG ZS EV. It aligns with top-end petrol/diesel midsize SUVs and includes a solid warranty – 8 years/1,60,000km on battery and motor, and 3 years/1,25,000km on the vehicle.

Can I buy the MG ZS EV in 2026? I am getting the Exclusive Plus model for Rs. 18.5 lakh on-road.

Verified
1w

The MG ZS EV has been around since 2021, and it has barely been updated since. As of today, there are far more modern, better equipped, and more efficient electric cars available in the market. So even though the pricing is attractive, we'd advise you to consider a newer car instead. For Rs. 18.5 lakh on-road, you can consider the Kia Syros EV, Vinfast VF6, Tata Curvv EV, or even the MG Windsor.

I'm getting a used 45K-run 2024 Curvv EV Empowered+ A 55 for Rs. 16.5 lakh. Do you think it is a fair price? I haven't negotiated yet. What will I be missing compared to the Series X? Is the back seat of the older model comfortable for long journeys? I heard there were some complaints earlier, and they improved it in the new one. Was there anything else that was an issue apart from the headroom? How bad was it, especially if a tall passenger won't be sitting in the back? Also, are there any known issues with the car? What should I double-check before buying a used one?

Verified

Rs 16.5 lakh for a 2024 Tata Curvv EV Empowered+ A 55 with 45,000km on the clock isn't very tempting, and you should definitely negotiate further. The car has covered a fair distance in a short time, so the price should reflect that. The Empowered+ A 55 is a well-equipped variant, and you are not missing out on anything major compared to the Series X - it gets some cosmetic tweaks and minor feature updates, but the core mechanical package remains the same. The back seat of this Tata car has been a point of discussion, mainly due to the sloping roofline, which affected headroom for taller passengers. If you do not have tall passengers regularly sitting at the back, it is not a deal-breaker. The seat itself is comfortable enough for long journeys, but the headroom limitation is something to be aware of. In terms of known issues, the Tata Curvv EV has not thrown up any widespread reliability concerns so far. Before buying used, check the battery health report, ensure the car has been serviced at authorised Tata workshops, inspect the tyres and brakes for wear, and look for any signs of accident damage or paintwork inconsistencies. Also, check that all charging cables and accessories are present.Overall, it is a good car, but push for a better deal given the mileage.

I'm planning to buy an EV with a budget of 20L. I'm inclining towards Curvv EV, then also thinking about the Sierra EV launch and buying that one. When will the Sierra EV launch, as I can't wait too long? What would you suggest for me?

Verified
6w

The Sierra EV has now been launched, with prices starting from Rs.18.79 lakh (ex-showroom), so you won't have to wait any longer to evaluate it.Compared to the Curvv EV, the Sierra sits a segment higher. It offers a larger battery, a more spacious cabin, a bigger boot and a noticeably more premium feel, making it a better long-term family EV. The Curvv EV, however, continues to be an excellent value-for-money option if your budget is tighter. Since your budget is around Rs. 20 lakh, we'd recommend test-driving both the Curvv EV and the newly launched Sierra EV before making a decision. On paper, the Sierra EV looks like the more complete product, and if it fits your budget, it would be our pick thanks to its larger battery, more premium cabin and greater practicality.

Hi team, I'm planning to buy an EV, and I'm confused between the Tata Curvv EV and the Tata Sierra EV. Kindly advise which one is the better choice. Also, are there any other EVs under Rs 18 lakh that offer good quality and features?

Verified
6w

The Tata Sierra EV has just been launched, and if you can stretch your budget, it's our recommendation. The Sierra EV sits above the Curvv EV in Tata's line-up, which is why it is more expensive. It comes with a larger battery pack, a more spacious cabin, a bigger boot and a noticeably more premium feel. It also gets a richer feature list and is likely to be the better long-term family EV.However, with a budget of Rs18 lakh, the Sierra EV is realistically out of reach. It starts at Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom), so the on-road price will be well above your budget. In that case, the Curvv EV remains a very sensible choice.

Which is the better EV overall between the Tata Curvv EV 55kWh Accomplished X and the Tata Harrier EV 65 Adventure S? The price difference is around Rs. 6 lakh. I currently own a Tata Tiago, drive around 1,000km a month in the city, and now want to upgrade. Please suggest which is the better overall product with better fit and finish.

Verified
6w

Since you already have a Tata Tiago and your monthly running is only around 1,000km, there isn't an urgent need to upgrade immediately. The Tata Sierra EV is expected to launch within the next month and is likely to share its battery pack and powertrain with the Harrier EV. That means you could get very similar performance and range in a different package, giving you one more strong option to evaluate before making your purchase.Between the two cars you've shortlisted, the Harrier EV is undoubtedly the more premium product. It offers a more spacious cabin, better ride comfort and a more upmarket feel. However, whether it is worth spending an additional Rs 6 lakh over the Curvv EV 55 Accomplished X depends on how much you value the extra space and premium experience. From a pure value-for-money perspective, the Curvv EV makes a strong case.
