The launch of the MG Windsor Pro has expanded the EV’s line-up, and there are now 4 variants on offer. Considering the MG Windsor’s price range of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 17.5 lakh and its size, the EV competes with the likes of the Tata Nexon EVMahindra XUV400 and even the Tata Curvv EV. We look at how the four EVs stack up against each other on paper.

As the Tata Curvv EV belongs to the midsize SUV segment, it is the longest model here, and it’s followed by the Windsor. However, the MG EV is the widest and tallest of the lot and comes with the longest wheelbase and largest boot; the Windsor Pro’s 579-litre capacity is down 25 litres on the standard model’s due to the larger battery pack. Interestingly, it is the Nexon EV that has the highest ground clearance, and it’s also 1mm wider than its larger stablemate, the Curvv EV.

While the Windsor and Curvv EV’s top-spec trims have 18-inch wheels, the Nexon EV and XUV400 make do with 16-inchers. It should also be noted that the Windsor has an MPV-ish stance and shape in a hatchback body style, the Nexon EV and XUV400 are more SUV-like, and the Curvv EV is a coupe-SUV.

All four EVs are available with a front-mounted single electric motor setup, with the Tata Curvv EV being the most powerful one here with up to 167hp. The Mahindra XUV400’s motor produces the highest torque at 310Nm. The XUV400 is also the quickest EV here, with a claimed 0-100kph sprint time of 8.3 seconds.

Windsor Pro MIDC range higher than Curvv EV 45 but less than Nexon EV 45

The Windsor offers a claimed range of 331km on a single charge with its 38kWh battery and 449km with the 52.9kWh battery in the Pro. This puts the standard Windsor ahead of the Nexon EV MR’s 275km with the 30.2kWh battery. While the Windsor Pro’s figure lags behind the Nexon EV 45’s 489km range, the new MG EV will go further than the Curvv EV 45, which has an MIDC figure of 430km. Naturally, the Curvv EV 55 has the highest range of the lot (at 502km) due to its larger battery capacity.

It should be noted that Mahindra is yet to reveal the XUV400’s updated range as per the new MIDC test cycle, and we expect it to be lower than the old cycle’s 359-456km.

Windsor Pro has the longest charging time on an AC fast charger

Based on manufacturer-claimed times for AC fast charging, the new Windsor Pro will take the longest to charge its battery pack. The Nexon EV’s batteries will charge the quickest, while the Curvv EV 45, XUV400 and standard Windsor take about the same time. Our real world charging tests have more details.

While the entry-level Windsor Excite is priced at Rs 14 lakh (Rs 10 lakh with the Battery as a Service rental pack), the new top-spec Windsor Essence Pro is for Rs 17.5 lakh, for an introductory period. This means that the range-topping Windsor EV costs more than the Tata Nexon EV 45 and the Mahindra XUV400 with the larger 39.4kWh battery. This also means that the entry-level Curvv EV 45 is priced just below the Windsor Pro, and during this month, it comes with massive discounts.
