Trending Questions on Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts
I am looking for a car with good safety ratings and must-have features, along with high ground clearance. My average monthly running is around 700-800 km, mostly in heavy traffic, with a mix of city and highway driving due to work requirements. I also travel late at night and on weekends to Virar. I would prefer a 7-seater, but I am also open to a 5-seater if it has proper rear-seat space. I am upgrading from a 2021 Renault Kwid AMT and am strictly on a budget of up to Rs. 18 lakh; although I can stretch it by another Rs. 2 lakh if required.
With a budget of Rs 18-20 lakh, a mix of heavy traffic, late-night runs, and weekend trips to Virar, the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic is the best fit. It offers strong safety credentials, a comfortable ride over broken roads, and a diesel engine that is well suited to your running pattern, especially with the highway stretches to Virar. This Mahindra car also offers a proper rear seat experience, and with the third row folded offers a very large boot space. Overall, the XUV 7XO diesel automatic strikes the best balance between safety, comfort, running costs, and practicality for your usage.
Suggest a budget friendly 7-seater car under 10 lakh for occassional trips.
Go for the Renault Triber or its sister car the Nissan Gravite. They are both economical to buy and run and offer genuine three row seating comfort. At your budget you will also get the top end variant which comes very well equipped with features like a touchscreen music system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a rear camera, NFC card based central locking, rain sensing wipers and other bits. The only downside is the 1.0 litre engine is not really powerful and you have to work it hard in instances like overtaking, driving in the hills or when your are fully loaded. If this is a concern, opt for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The engine is more powerful and easily manages everyday driving tasks even when fully loaded. Its also larger and thus would give you more room inside however at Rs. 10 lakh you would get the base version only.
I am from Kerala and looking to buy a 7-seater car to replace my old Hyundai Eon. My options are the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6, and Kia Carens Clavis. The Clavis offers many options, including naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines. Which car would be the most suitable for travelling with seven people? My maximum budget is Rs 16 lakh. Also, from a mileage point-of-view, which is better: turbo or naturally aspirated with a manual transmission?
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. It is the most sensible and reliable choice for your requirement. The Ertiga is a proven 7-seater with a comfortable third row, low running costs and Maruti's strong service network, which is important coming from a Hyundai Eon.The Maruti XL6 is essentially the same car with a more premium interior and captain seats in the middle row, but that reduces seating capacity to six, which does not suit your need for seven people. The Kia Carens Clavis is a good alternative with a more premium feel, but is positioned slightly higher, and on your budget of Rs 16 lakh, you will only get a low-spec model with fewer features. Between turbo and naturally aspirated petrol engines, the naturally aspirated engine is generally more fuel-efficient in real-world conditions, especially with a manual transmission. The Maruti Ertiga also fits comfortably within your Rs 16 lakh budget, letting you get the fully-loaded variant with more features. Overall, the Ertiga is the most practical and hassle-free 7-seater for family use.
I have been driving a Renault Triber RXZ AMT for a long time. However, the transmission feels sluggish, and the car feels underpowered. My driving is 80% on highways and 20% in the city, with an annual running of approximately 8,000 km. Safety is a major concern for me. Please suggest the best 7-seater family car options under Rs. 20 lakh.
Given your usage pattern of 80% highway driving, the Renault Triber's limitations are understandable. The AMT gearbox is not the most responsive and the engine does feel underpowered.Go for the Kia Clavis HTK+ Turbo DCT. It is a comfortable, spacious seven-seater which delivers strong performance that you will certainly appreciate on your long drives. The HTK+ is well-equipped too, and the interior feels quite premium too. As far as safety goes, the Clavis is equipped with all standard features like 6 airbags, ESP, hill-start assist, ABS with EBD, etc. Overall, it'll feel like a huge step up over your Renault Triber AMT.
