Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a compact sedan with a 382-litre boot, sold in 11 variants across four trims called LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+. It is offered only with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that makes 82hp and 112Nm. The same engine also comes with a factory-fitted CNG kit, where output drops to 70hp and 102Nm. Dzire Road Test Findings
What we liked
- The ride quality. Bumps and ruts are absorbed well and the car stays settled at highway speed too.
- The engine responds well at low revs, which lets the car pull away cleanly in city without needing to be pushed.
- The feature list has taken a big step up over the older car. Now, it comes equipped with a sunroof, a 360-degree camera and wireless phone connectivity on the upper trims.
What we did not like
- Rear headroom is tight, because the sunroof mechanism lowers the roof lining. Hence, taller passengers might feel the roof close to their heads which could be uncomfortable for them.
- The engine is not lively, and the AMT took 15.21 seconds to reach 100kph from rest, more than two seconds slower than the Honda Amaze.
- The engine sounds strained near the top of the rev range, and it makes 8hp less than the one in the previous Dzire.
- Some features you might expect at this price are missing, such as cooled seats, ambient lighting and premium audio hardware.
Who should buy the Dzire?
Based on our review, this sedan suits five kinds of buyers.
Buyer type | Why it fits |
If this is your first car | The steering and clutch are light and both gearboxes shift smoothly, so it is easy to learn on. Our experts have pointed first-time buyers towards it. |
If you drive a lot and want low running costs | A CNG version is offered on the VXi and ZXi, and our experts have chosen it over the Brezza CNG for buyers who put mileage and comfort first. |
If safety is your first concern on a budget | It holds 5-star adult occupant ratings from both GNCAP and BNCAP, which very few cars on sale in India manage, and stability control is fitted on every variant. |
If you drive mainly in the city or on broken roads | Ride comfort is a strength, and 163mm of ground clearance clears most speed breakers. |
If you carry four adults regularly | Rear legroom and seat cushioning are comfortable for everyday family use. Plus, the rear passengers get AC vents and USB ports. Tall passengers are the exception. |
Since the engine is tuned for economy rather than speed, the buyer it suits least as per us at Autocar India, is the enthusiast.

8.0
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire brings a significant update to India’s favourite compact sedan, evolving into a sleeker and more modern design without straying far from its popular silhouette. The front end gains a wider grille with sharper chrome accents, slimmer LED headlamps and a cleaner bumper that lend it greater road presence than the outgoing car. The shoulder line is more pronounced, and the new alloy wheel design adds a sense of cohesion to the profile.
At the rear, reshaped tail lamps with longer clusters and a subtle boot garnish create a more premium look. Overall, the facelifted Dzire carries a more refined appearance that better matches its upgraded interior and feature set. Engineering fundamentals remain familiar, with suspension and chassis tuning prioritising comfort over outright dynamics.
8.0
Inside, the Dzire receives a comprehensive upgrade. A floating 9-inch touchscreen now sits atop a cleaner, driver-centred dashboard, paired with a crisp digital instrument cluster that elevates cabin appeal. Materials generally feel more premium than before, with better-graded plastics and neatly executed trims that lift the ambience in a segment where rivals lag.
Front seats offer good support and cushioning for city and highway use. The rear cabin is roomy for the class, with ample knee room and headroom for adults. The long wheelbase continues to benefit passenger comfort, and thoughtful touches such as rear AC vents and multiple USB ports improve everyday usability. Boot space remains generous, reinforcing the Dzire’s traditional strength for luggage capacity.
7.0
Powering the Dzire is Maruti Suzuki’s familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. In everyday driving, the engine feels smooth and well suited to city duties, with predictable throttle response and decent low-end tractability. It remains refined at moderate speeds, though it doesn’t feel particularly brisk when pushed on highways or steep gradients.
The AMT helps keep driving relaxed in stop-go traffic, with shifts timed to favour ease rather than urgency. Refinement is generally good, but some gearbox hesitation under abrupt throttle inputs is noticeable — something typical of AMTs in this class. Overall, the setup aligns well with the Dzire’s comfort-oriented character.
8.0
Fuel efficiency continues to be a strong suit for the Dzire. While exact instrumented figures were not part of the review, Maruti Suzuki’s engine and AMT calibration are tuned for economy, and real-world returns are expected to be among the best in the segment — a key consideration for buyers seeking low running costs.
9.0
Ride comfort is one of the Dzire’s defining strengths. Suspension compliance is compliant over typical urban imperfections and highway expansion joints alike, absorbing minor bumps and undulations with ease. The carryover suspension setup prioritises chassis balance and ride smoothness rather than sporty feedback, so body motions feel assured but not taut.
Steering is light and easy at low speeds, aiding city manoeuvrability, and gains just enough weight at higher speeds to feel stable on the highway. Handling remains predictable and confidence-inspiring for everyday commuters, though it leans further towards comfort than enthusiast-oriented dynamics.
9.0
Feature content is significantly upgraded on the 2024 Dzire. The new touchscreen hosts wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected-car tech and a cleaner UI, backed by physical controls that are intuitive to use. A digital driver’s display adds clarity to key vehicle information, and LED lighting enhances perceived quality.
Safety equipment includes multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear-ward camera and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. Higher variants add stability control and more advanced connectivity features, keeping the Dzire competitive in its segment.
9.0
Priced sensibly within the compact sedan class, the facelifted Dzire continues to offer strong value with its blend of space, economy and a meaningful feature upgrade. While it does not bring segment-leading performance, it ticks most boxes for everyday usability, refinement and tech. Given its brand reliability and low running costs, the 2024 Dzire remains a compelling choice for buyers prioritising comfort, economy and a well-rounded feature package.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Mileage
Maruti Suzuki Dzire petrol mileage is certified by ARAI at 24.79kpl for the manual and 25.71kpl for the AMT. In our own testing the numbers came out lower and the order flipped, with the manual returning 17.25kpl and the AMT returning 15.42kpl.
This means the AMT's higher certified figure does not carry over to everyday driving. If fuel cost is your main concern on petrol, the manual is the more economical choice. Stop-go traffic will further pull the average down irrespective of the gearbox.
The CNG version is certified by ARAI at 33.73km/kg for the manual and 36.47km/kg for the AMT. We have not road-tested the CNG Dzire yet, so we cannot say how close it gets to these figures in daily use.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire FAQs
Choosing between the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Maruti Suzuki Swift depends on your driving needs. The Dzire is ideal for families, offering a larger boot and greater practicality, while the Swift excels as a compact, fuel-efficient hatchback for city driving, easy parking, and everyday commuting.
The Maruti Dzire's rear seat comfort on long drives is mostly comfortable. Rear headroom is tight, and passengers over 6 feet tall may find it cramped due to the sloping roofline and sunroof cutting into headroom. Legroom and seat cushioning, however, are genuinely comfortable for everyday family use.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire's ride quality is one of its strongest suits. Thanks to its ground clearance and superb ride quality, bumps are barely felt inside the cabin. Even with a full load, the Dzire never bottoms out or scrapes haphazardly constructed speed bumps.
The Maruti Dzire's engine performance is not particularly exciting. Maruti appears to have deliberately tuned the engine for maximum fuel efficiency, compromising some of its responsiveness it feels lethargic compared to the Swift hatchback. It is a relaxed highway cruiser and not a spirited performer.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is sensibly priced in the compact sedan segment, offering an excellent balance of comfort, fuel efficiency, refinement, and modern features. Backed by Maruti's proven reliability, low maintenance costs, and strong after-sales support, the Dzire remains one of the best compact sedans for buyers seeking an economical, practical, and well-equipped family car for everyday driving.
Questions you may find useful
Hi, I am currently driving Maruti Suzuki Dzire VXI petrol for daily running of 70 km. I am planning to upgrade to a hybrid/CNG/EV with decent features. What are the options under Rs. 15 Lakh?
With a daily running of 70km, you are clocking over 25,000km a year, so fuel efficiency and running costs become very important. Since you are coming from a Dzire VXI, reliability and low maintenance are likely priorities as well.CNG is the most cost-effective option for your usage, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG is the most sensible upgrade. It is a practical, reliable SUV with a factory-fitted CNG kit, good service reach and low running costs. The Brezza CNG also offers a decent feature set and a comfortable ride, making it a very easy car to live with.If you are open to EVs and have access to home charging, the Tata Nexon EV is worth considering. It will offer the lowest running costs and a more premium cabin, but only if your daily route is predictable and you can charge at home. Otherwise, CNG remains the more practical choice.Hybrids like the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid or Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid are excellent for your use case, but they won't fall under your budget of Rs 15 lakh.Overall, the Brezza CNG is the most sensible upgrade for your usage and budget.
I want a CNG car primarily for good mileage and comfort. I am considering the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG. Please suggest which one would be better for me.
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG. It is the better choice if your priorities are mileage, comfort and overall ownership experience. The Dzire CNG is lighter, more aerodynamic and more efficient than the Brezza CNG, so you will see better fuel economy in both city and highway driving. It also has a comfortable suspension setup, which makes it good for daily commuting and long drives. The Maruti Brezza CNG is a good car, but it is heavier and less efficient, and the higher ground clearance does not really add much value unless you specifically need an SUV. If you want the best mileage and comfort in a CNG car, the Dzire CNG is the clear choice.
I was previously driving a Dzire and now want to switch to a new car. I can afford up to Rs. 16-20 lakh. I am looking for better interior comfort and a powerful engine, and an automatic is a must. Mileage is not a major concern. My options are the Seltos, Creta, Sierra, and Tekton. Please help me choose the better option.
Go for the Kia Seltos turbo petrol automatic. Coming from a Dzire, you will immediately notice the step up in comfort, refinement and overall premium feel. The Seltos offers a well-balanced package with a comfortable cabin, good rear seat space and a strong turbo petrol engine that delivers the performance you are looking for. The automatic gearbox is smooth and well suited to both city and highway driving, and Kia's service network is strong enough to make ownership relatively hassle-free.The Hyundai Creta is a very similar car mechanically, but the Seltos feels slightly more premium inside and offers marginally better rear seat space. The Tata Sierra is a genuinely interesting alternative with a spacious cabin and a comfortable ride, but it does not have the same long-term ownership track record as the Kia. The Nissan Tekton is a good value proposition, but Nissan's service network is not as extensive as Kia's, which can be a consideration for long-term ownership.Overall, the Seltos turbo petrol automatic strikes the best balance between comfort, performance and ownership experience in your budget.
I wish to buy a CNG car with a budget of Rs. 8-9 lakh. Please suggest the best option among the Baleno, Fronx, Grand i10 Nios, Exter, and Dzire.
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG. It is the most well-rounded option in your budget, offering a spacious cabin, a large boot and a proven, reliable CNG powertrain. The Dzire is also one of the most comfortable and most efficient cars in this price range, with a compliant ride and a well-sorted suspension setup that makes it easy to live with on a daily basis. Maruti's service network and low maintenance costs further strengthen its case as a long-term ownership proposition. The Hyundai Exter CNG is a good value alternative, but it does not offer the same level of space or comfort as the Dzire. On the positive side, due to its twin-cylinder setup, you still get a reasonable boot with the Exter.Overall, the Dzire CNG strikes the best balance between price, space, comfort, efficiency and long-term ownership peace of mind.
Hi Autocar Team, I currently own a 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire ZDi+ Diesel. Since the car is now almost 10 years old, I am planning to replace it with a new car. I am looking for an SUV with good mileage, comfortable interiors, and strong safety features. My budget is around Rs. 20 lakh, and my monthly running is approximately 350 km. Could you please suggest some good SUV options that would be suitable for my requirements?
With a monthly running of just 350km, diesel is not financially justified, so you should focus on petrol or hybrid options. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid is the most sensible recommendation here. This Maruti Suzuki car offers excellent fuel efficiency, a comfortable ride and a proven ownership experience, making it a very easy car to live with over the long term. The hybrid system works seamlessly in city traffic and keeps running costs low, which is exactly what you want with your usage pattern. If you want something with a more premium feel and a stronger safety package, the Kia Seltos is the alternative to consider. It has a more upmarket cabin, a wider range of features and a more substantial feel on the road. The only trade-off is that it will not be as efficient as the Victoris Hybrid in city driving.Overall, the Victoris Hybrid in its ZXI trim will cost around your budget and is the most balanced recommendation for your requirements. It is efficient, comfortable and easy to own, which is exactly what you need coming from a Dzire diesel.
