Audi A4

The 2021 Audi A4 facelift is far more than a mild update. Nearly every exterior panel is new, giving the sedan a sharper, more contemporary look. The redesigned LED headlamps and smoother, wider grille lend it a more cohesive and premium appearance compared to the earlier car. 
Subtle changes at the rear, including updated LED tail-lamps, add freshness without altering the A4’s familiar proportions. Slight increases in length and width enhance stance, while the underlying platform remains unchanged. The facelift succeeds in making the A4 look more refined and upmarket without being flashy. 

Inside, the A4 retains its familiar layout but introduces a key upgrade: a new 10.1-inch touchscreen MMI system. It replaces the older interface and is sharp, responsive and easier to use, especially with the continued presence of physical controls for climate functions. 
Space remains largely unchanged. Rear seat room is adequate rather than class-leading, and the slightly upright backrest could affect long-distance comfort. However, what stands out is the exceptional fit, finish and build quality. Materials, tactile feedback and overall execution give the cabin a distinctly premium feel.

The facelift introduces a 2.0-litre TFSI turbo-petrol engine producing 190hp and 320Nm. Performance is strong and linear, with smooth power delivery and quick acceleration. The A4 clocks 0-100kph in about 7.19 seconds, making it one of the quicker cars in its class.
Refinement is a major highlight. The engine is quiet, smooth and remains composed even when pushed hard. The 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox works well overall, though it can hesitate during sudden downshifts, making manual paddle inputs preferable when driving enthusiastically.

The A4 offers a claimed efficiency of around 17.4kmpl, which is respectable for a petrol luxury sedan of this size and performance level. Real-world efficiency will depend on driving style, but the combination of a modern turbo-petrol engine and efficient transmission ensures it remains reasonably economical for its segment.

Ride quality is one of the A4’s biggest strengths. The suspension is tuned on the softer side, allowing it to absorb broken roads and potholes with ease. It feels particularly well suited to Indian conditions. 
Handling is competent rather than sporty. There is noticeable body roll, and the car can feel slightly floaty over undulations. However, the steering offers good weight and precision, especially in Dynamic mode, providing confidence at higher speeds.

The A4 comes well equipped with essentials expected in a luxury sedan. Depending on variant, features include 3-zone climate control, powered front seats, ambient lighting, wireless charging and auto park assist. 
Safety kit includes eight airbags, ABS and stability control, ensuring strong baseline protection. While some rivals offer more features, the A4 covers all key requirements for the segment.

Priced in the Rs 47-55 lakh range (ex-showroom at launch), the A4 faces stiff competition from rivals like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Volvo S60. 
However, its strengths lie in its refined engine, excellent ride quality, premium cabin and balanced all-round ability. It may not lead in rear seat comfort or feature count, but as a well-rounded luxury sedan, the A4 makes a compelling case for buyers seeking comfort and sophistication over outright sportiness.
