Familiar looks
Though launched in 2018 and facelifted in 2021, the ageing Q5 still looks smart. Understated compared to newer rivals, its sharp lines and angular edges will find favour with more discreet buyers. The 19-inch alloy wheels look smart, the LED light signatures are smart and the Bold Edition features some attractive details.
6.0
Again, while newer rivals have grown, the Q5 does offer good rear seat space and comfort, though the seats are a touch firm. Like the exterior, the interior design is straight laced, which has its own appeal, and helpfully still features plenty of hard buttons for essential controls. Quality is excellent, as per Audi’s usual high standard.
7.0
The Audi Q5 is available with a single powertrain – a 2.0 TFSI turbo petrol with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and Quattro AWD. Its power and torque figures of 249hp and 370Nm are competitive for the class, and performance is sufficiently punchy. But more than that, it’s the Q5’s smoothness and refinement that are highlights, and could be best in class.
7.0
The Audi Q5 official mileage is 13.47kpl, which doesn’t sound too bad for a petrol-only luxury SUV. However, in our real-world usage over time, we achieved lower figures, closer to 8kpl in the city and around 10kpl out on the highway.
6.0
Thanks to the inclusion of adaptive dampers on top variants, ride quality is altered with the drive modes. Whichever mode you choose, the Q5 is a supremely comfortable SUV, and that is one of its strengths. Sharp handling is not a Q5 strength, though it remains neutral and easy to drive; it is, however, easy and manoeuvrable in the city.
8.0
Though among the oldest in the class, the Audi Q5 is quite well equipped. You get a 10.1-inch touchscreen, digital dials, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive dampers, 3-zone auto climate control, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system on top variants. On the safety front, you’ll find 360 cameras with park assist and 8 airbags.
7.0
The Audi Q5 India price ranges from Rs 68 lakh to Rs 73.79 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and the SUV is available in three variants – Premium Plus, Technology and Bold Edition. Its rivals include the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Lexus NX, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Volvo XC60. The ageing Audi Q5 is due for a replacement in 2026 but the model is well priced and still has strong fundamentals of refinement, ride quality and interior comfort.

•21hI am planning to buy a new SUV. Should I choose the BMW X3, Audi Q5, or the Mercedes-Benz GLC? I am only considering petrol options.

Autocar India
You should opt for the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. It is the most complete choice for everyday use and long trips among these three right now. The GLC rides very comfortably on bad roads, and the petrol engine is smooth and quiet. The steering is light in the city, the view out is clear, and the automatic gearbox shifts cleanly on its own, so it is easy to drive even in heavy traffic. Inside, it feels the newest and most upmarket, and Mercedes has a wide service network across big and small cities.Pick the BMW X3 petrol only if driving fun matters most to you and you often enjoy fast highway runs yourself. It feels keener to drive than the other two, especially in the recently introduced xDrive30 variant. Choose the Audi Q5 if you want a solid, comfortable SUV that's nice to drive and excellent value for money. Do bear in mind that it's quite old now and doesn't feel as modern as the other two.Overall, for a balanced, luxurious, and easy-to-own petrol SUV, the GLC 300 is the one to buy.

•5dHello, I’m in the market for my first, and likely only, luxury car. I’m currently considering SUVs. I’ve test-driven the GLC, the new X3 30, Q5, and the XC60. At this point, I’m leaning strongly toward the X3, although I was quite impressed with the Volvo as well. For some context, I currently drive a 2016 Creta, which is now in its 11th year. My usage is primarily city commuting, averaging around 500 km per month. My main question is whether the X3 is a good daily driver, given its size. I’m planning to make the purchase later this year or early next year, ideally with minimal financing. From a timing perspective, what level of discounts could I expect if I target early next year?

Autocar India
Go for the BMW X3 30i. For your mostly city usage and as a one-time luxury buy, it fits best and will keep you happy. Coming from the Hyundai Creta, the X3 will not feel unwieldy in town. The steering is light at low speeds, the view out is clear, and the 360-degree cameras and parking sensors make navigating tight spots easy. The petrol engine and smooth automatic respond keenly in traffic, and the size feels manageable once you get used to it. Ride comfort is on the firmer side at low speeds, but it stays very steady at higher speeds. One thing to be aware of: the X3’s ride can feel a bit busy on broken city roads at crawl speeds, and the rear seat is not the widest in this class. If you want a calmer SUV, with great seats and more active safety features, the Volvo XC60 is a fine alternative, though Volvo’s dealer network is smaller. If rear-seat comfort matters most, the Mercedes GLC is the one to go for.On timing, the best deals typically come at calendar year-end and around March. A fresh, in-demand X3 usually gets small cash benefits or freebies, while the XC60 and Q5 see bigger cuts more often. Since you’ll use minimal finance, ask dealers to convert low-interest schemes into a straight cash discount or add a long service pack and extended warranty.

•1wHello Autocar Team, I am planning to buy a new car. I currently drive a 2020 Creta S, which has covered 80,000km. It feels underpowered at times. I am looking for a performance-oriented SUV (petrol). What would be a good purchase? Should I consider the Tata Harrier, Tata Sierra, or a used luxury SUV? Open to suggestions.

Autocar India
If you're looking for performance first and foremost, check out the Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol. Coming from the 1.5 petrol Creta, you will immediately notice how much stronger the XUV 7XO's 202hp 2.0-litre turbo petrol is. Overtakes need a light press on the pedal, hills feel effortless even with family and bags, and it cruises comfortably at highway speeds. Mahindra tunes its engines for performance first and fuel economy second. So, be prepared for poor mileage numbers. If you’re tempted by a used luxury SUV, a 2-3 year old BMW X3 30i or Audi Q5 with a valid extended warranty will be quick and feel special, but do factor in higher service and repair costs and get a thorough pre-purchase inspection.

•2wHi, I am a doctor by profession and, of course, a car enthusiast. I own a 2022 Jeep Compass 4x4 top model. I am planning to upgrade to a luxury petrol car. My Running is around 800km a month. Which do you think is the best petrol luxury car under a 70 lakh budget? Thank you.

Autocar India
Choose the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine 330Li M Sport (petrol). It delivers engaging dynamics and a clear luxury upgrade over your Compass, while staying under Rs 70 lakh. With your 800 km/month, petrol is the right pick for smooth, quiet performance and low hassle. As an enthusiast, you’ll feel the step up in steering feel and balance compared to the Jeep Compass 4x4, yet the long‑wheelbase cabin keeps it comfortable for daily use. Within your Rs 70 lakh budget, the M Sport trim delivers the premium fit-finish you’d expect from a top model, along with 6 airbags and strong active safety features. BMW’s warranty can be extended to 6 years, which keeps ownership predictable. Confirm current pricing and package availability with your dealer. The 330Li also rides quite well and doesn't have the hard-edged ride of your Compass. You do have to watch out for speed breakers, though, as the ground clearance is low.If you expect frequent rough roads or prefer a higher seating position, consider the Audi Q5 45 TFSI Technology instead. It rides quite well, has good ground clearance, and its quattro traction inspires confidence without crossing your Rs 70 lakh cap.

•12wHello I have been driving the Mercedes C Class W204 facelift Avantgarde now for 13 years. Bought and maintained by the dealer till date. The car is in great condition. I have decided to buy a SUV. I turn 60 this March and plan to gift myself. The intent is to have comfort and long drives which I love and do a lot. The advice I seek is as follows I have undergone a bypass surgery 3 months ago hence is a SUV better than asedan for long drives? I have shortlisted the following SUVs - Mercedes GLC 300, Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60. I like the Volvo the most. It is classy, understated, not too much in the face tech like the MB and rides very well. What would you advice I buy for comfort, long distance/highway, cost of ownership. Appreciate your help. Subramani

Autocar India
Happy birthday! And if you like the Volvo XC60, we recommend you go for it. It is, as you said, the most understated of the lot, and a less common sight on our roads, which makes it a little bit more special. Both the interior and exterior design aren't too over the top, and with the recent update in August 2025, its tech is now on par with the rest too. An underrated feature is the 1,410W Bowers & Wilkins audio system, which is possibly the best you'll find in this segment. It's an excellent highway cruiser with superb refinement at speed, and though not the most exciting to drive, it is very relaxing. Cost of ownership is on par with Mercedes GLC 300 and the Audi Q5, the only caveat being a slightly smaller service network, although Volvo is present in most big cities. For a heart patient, more so than the body style, its a safe, smooth, comfortable and predictable driving experience that is beneficial, and with its refined and relaxed demeanour, the Volvo XC60 should be ideal for you.

•15wI have been using a Skoda Superb car for the last few years. I am now planning to buy a new car. For some time now, I have developed knee pain. Considering this, would a SUV be better suited for me as compared to a sedan? Can you please also give me some recommendations for the car? My budget is up to ₹75 lakh.

Autocar India
While you are advised to personally test the vehicles to judge comfort, a higher-riding SUV usually is more comfortable to get into and out of than a sedan. There are a fair few options within your budget (do remember to haggle hard!), among which we'd suggest you check out the BMW iX1, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 and Land Rover Discovery Sport. You could also look at the Kia Carnival if you are open to the MPV body style.

•20wI am currently driving a Jeep Compass and am planning to upgrade. I have shortlisted the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, or should I wait for the upcoming Audi Q5? Please share your feedback.

Autocar India
In this list, the Mercedes-Benz GLC would be a good choice as it has a strong engine, premium interiors and good ride comfort as well. The BMW X3 is roomy, but lacks the luxury appeal of the GLC's interior, and the GLC also holds its value better. The Audi Q5 will be the newest car once it launches in 2026, but there is no official confirmation on the same. Currently, the GLC is your best bet.

•21wI want to buy a new car in Mumbai. My priority is ride quality on Mumbai roads, including comfort in the rear seat, along with driving pleasure for occasional long trips. I’ve shortlisted the Citroen C5 Aircross, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Range Rover Evoque, Tata Harrier and Tata Sierra, but I’m open to other options. Please suggest.

Autocar India
Your shortlisted cars vary widely in price and category, ranging from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 75 lakh, including ICE as well as electric cars, so it's hard to pinpoint exactly what you are shopping for. If you plan to do long trips, avoid an EV, as it is just not worth the hassle, given the current state of charging infrastructure. The Citroen C5 Aircross has astonishing ride quality, since that is your primary requirement, but bear in mind that dealerships are few and far between, and the model itself is now dated and due for a replacement. If you move to the upper end of your budget, consider the Audi Q5, which, though also a bit long in the tooth, has excellent ride quality and is an excellent value for money.Similarly, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a full-size SUV with excellent ride quality, with prices from a segment below, and is also definitely worth check out.
