Tata Tiago, Tigor CNG: what’s new?

The only new addition on both models is the new twin-cylinder setup that first debuted with the Altroz CNG. We've reported before that Tata Motors is planning to add this new tech to the Tiago and Tigor as it has filed a patent for this. Instead of using a single, large 60-litre cylinder in the boot, Tata Motors has split it into two equal halves and packaged it under the boot floor.

With the older setup, the Tiago and Tigor CNG's boot space was limited to 80 and 205 litres, respectively. With the new setup, the boot space has increased, to be sure, but Tata has not yet mentioned the increased capacity.

While the Altroz and Punch are based on the ALFA platform, which Tata Motors designed with this twin-cylinder tech in mind, the Tiago and Tigor are based on the older X0 platform.

    Tata Tiago, Tigor CNG powertrain

Under the hood, the Tiago and Tigor CNG continue with the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In petrol mode, it produces 86hp and 113Nm of torque and, in the CNG mode, it produces 73hp and 95Nm of peak torque.

    Tata Tiago, Tigor CNG rivals

The Tiago CNG rivals the Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG (Rs 6.73 lakh), Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (Rs 6.44 lakh-6.89 lakh) and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG (Rs 7.58 lakh-8.13 lakh). Meanwhile, the Tigor CNG rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG (Rs 8.39 lakh-9.07 lakh) and the Hyundai Aura CNG (Rs 8.13 lakh-8.90 lakh).
