Tata has finally unveiled the much-anticipated Curvv coupe-SUV in India in its production-spec avatar. The coupe-SUV gets three engine options: each with manual and automatic gearbox options,  and the carmaker will announce prices on September 2.

  1. Top-spec gets Level 2 ADAS, segment-first powered tail gate
  2. Curvv is offered in six variants
  3. Sits on new ATLAS platform

The Curvv, which is based on the Nexon, looks very similar to the compact SUV from the front. But it looks quite different in profile. It is clearly longer, the coupe roofline slopes down sharply, and the wheel arches are squircle. At the rear, it gets a rooftop-mounted spoiler – it is a single-piece unit, but dips in the centre to mimick the concept's split spoiler. The tail-light stretches across the entire width of the tail gate, and there's a chunky dual-tone bumper down below.

Tata is offering the Curvv in six variants: Smart, Pure+, Creative, Creative+ S, Accomplished S and Accomplished+ A. The cabin of the Curvv is carried over from the Nexon and Nexon EV, save for a few changes like a dual-tone burgundy and black theme. The dashboard design and centre console are identical, while the four-spoke steering is from the Harrier and Safari.

The Tata Curvv gets a segment-first powered tail gate with gesture control, 18-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, reclining rear seat, and ventilated front seats. It also gets six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, ESC, disc brakes on all four wheels, TPMS, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and more.

Tata Curvv powertrain options

The Curvv comes with three engine options: the 120hp, 170Nm, 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol mill, a 118hp, 1.5-litre diesel unit and Tata’s new 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine that produces 125hp and 225Nm. All three engines come with a 6-speed manual as standard, along with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic option. This makes it the only mass-market diesel car in India to offer a dual-clutch auto.

The Curvv is based on the new ATLAS platform that supports different body styles, petrol and diesel powertrains, and both manual and automatic options.

Tata Curvv expected price, rivals

Tata will announce pricing for the Curvv on September 2, and the carmaker claims that despite its body style making it a niche offering, the coupe-SUV’s pricing, powertrain choices and multiple variants will ensure it takes on all competitors in the midsize SUV segment. The company said it is aiming to become a major segment player with the Curvv, much like it did with the Punch and Nexon. The Curvv will rival the Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, and other similarly priced SUVs.
