Tata Motors has begun work on a comprehensive update for the popular Tiago hatchback.

While the current Tata Tiago gets a 1.05-litre diesel engine that makes 70hp and 140Nm, the updated car will drop the diesel engine from its line-up and will have only a petrol unit on offer. The petrol engine will be the same 1.2-litre that makes 85hp and 114Nm motor but it'll be upgraded to meet BS-VI regulations.

In terms of changes to the exterior, the updated Tiago will sport a redesigned front end with add-ons like LED daytime running lights likely to be offered on higher-spec versions. It will also get a more aggressive-looking grille and front bumper design similar to that of the recently showcased Tata Altroz hatchback, and an updated rear bumper as well.

While the car in the pictures was running top-spec 15-inch alloy wheels as the current Tiago (and the Tigor), Tata Motors is expected to offer the facelift with the option of 14-inch and 15-inch alloy wheels.

The update includes changes to the interiors as well. The Tiago facelift will get a larger touchscreen with an improved user interface and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as updated interior trim colours and new upholstery for the seats and side panels.

To comply with the upcoming safety norms, the refreshed Tiago will also get dual airbags and parking sensors as standard.

The Tata Tiago takes on the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, the Hyundai Santro and the Hyundai Grand i10.
