2020 Hyundai Verna E base variant

As the new base variant, the E trim of the Verna replaces the previous entry-point for the range – the S trim. The new E trim is offered only with the 115hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with the manual gearbox. The base trim for the diesel models continues to be the S+ trim-level.

In terms of features, the E trim has a lot in common with the S trim, as it gets Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, keyless entry (with folding key), front- and rear-centre armrests, power windows, power adjustable ORVMs and more.

The equipment it misses out on compared to the S trim includes the 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 4 speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted controls, shark fin antenna (instead gets a small regular antenna), sunglass holder and front USB charger.

Hyundai has also made automatic headlights standard across the range (earlier reserved for SX trim and higher).

As we can see from the table above, the starting price for the Verna range is Rs 28,000 less than the previous base S trims price (Rs 9.31 lakh).

Besides this, the prices for the entire range, both petrol and diesel versions,  have also been increased by Rs 8,000. The only exceptions being the S and S+ trims, which increased by Rs 7,000.

The Hyundai Verna competes in the mid-size sedan segment where it takes on the Honda City (fifth-gen), Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and even the older Honda City fourth gen.

It is evident from the table above, that the Skoda Rapid is the most affordable offering in the segment. Though even with the hike in prices, the Hyundai Verna is still not the most expensive model in the segment, as it is still marginally cheaper than the Honda City (fifth-gen).

It is also worth mentioning that the Hyundai Verna is currently the only model in the segment to offer a diesel-automatic powertrain option.
