Hyundai will take the wraps off the much-awaited Creta facelift sometime next month. The updated SUV will go on sale in Indonesia first as the brand's first locally-built SUV. A first teaser released by Hyundai gives us an idea on what to expect from the refreshed Creta.

  • Creta facelift to look like Tucson and Santa Cruz from the front
  • Expected to get two seating options
  • India launch to take place sometime next year

Hyundai Creta facelift: what does the teaser confirm?

The refreshed Creta has been spotted testing many times in Indonesia and Korea and the teaser confirms that the model will get an all-new front design bringing it more in line with the newer models like the latest-gen Tucson (yet to come to India) and the recently revealed Santa Cruz pickup sold overseas.

As part of the mid-cycle update, the new Creta will get more rectangular headlamps, positioned a tad lower than before. The new grille design, which Hyundai calls 'parametric grille', takes centrestage and blends seamlessly with the front fascia and bumper. The teaser does not confirm whether the new Creta will get the Tucson's half-mirror type LED Daytime Running Lamps that are only visible when switched on and appear as an extension of the grille otherwise. Styling at the rear is expected to look similar to the mildly updated version revealed in Russia recently and we expect some interior upgrades and more features on the facelift.

Additionally, sources tell us that the Creta facelift in Indonesia will come with passive safety tech like ADAS, atleast on the higher variants.

Hyundai Creta facelift: engine details for Indonesia

With the Creta facelift launching in Indonesia first, Hyundai is expected to introduce it with a 1.5-litre petrol engine only and we don't expect Hyundai to introduce a diesel for that market.

Hyundai Creta facelift: likely to get two seating configurations in Indonesia

Unconfirmed reports suggest the Creta for Indonesia will be offered with either a five- or a seven-seat layout. The five-seat variant will have similar cabin space as the one sold globally, but the seven-seat Creta will be a unique product, as it will have no change in dimensions, but come with a small bench seat in the third row, similar to the set-up seen on the seven-seat Sonet sold there. For India, we will continue to get the Alcazar which is an extended version of the Creta with three row of seats.

Hyundai Creta facelift: India launch timeline

The current-gen Creta initially debuted in 2019 as the ix25 in China, with the India-spec SUV debuting at the 2020 Auto Expo last February, making the SUV a little over a year old for our market. While the refreshed car will go on sale in Indonesia first, an India launch is still some time away and can be expected only in the latter half of next year. The updated Creta for India will most likely look similar as the one that will be revealed in Indonesia soon, but we expect the India-spec SUV to get more features and even include passive tech like ADAS.
