Maruti Suzuki has just launched the all-new Baleno in India, with prices ranging between Rs 6.35 – 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Barring a minor cosmetic update in 2019, this is the first major update for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno since it was introduced in 2015. This time, it has been completely overhauled inside out, with the biggest talking point being its expansive features list.

The new Baleno is available in four variants and two powertrain configurations. We take a detailed look at the features and powertrain options available with each individual variant of the Baleno.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno: engine and gearbox details

Under the hood, the new Baleno is powered by a sole 90hp, 113Nm, K12N DualJet petrol engine. This engine comes with variable valve timing and an integrated starter generator (ISG) that allows for auto engine stop/start to help save fuel. It, however, does not feature Maruti’s SHVS mild-hybrid system for additional torque boost and efficiency.

The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, but for the automatic gearbox, Maruti Suzuki has swapped the CVT from the outgoing model in favour of a 5-speed AMT. This is in the interest of cost saving and making the automatic variants more accessible to the buyers. The outgoing version of the Baleno was also offered with an 83hp, 1.2-litre K12M petrol engine, although this has been discontinued with this new model.

    2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno: rivals

The new Baleno continues its rivalry in the premium hatchback segment with the likes of the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Tata Altroz, Volkswagen Polo and the soon-to-be-updated Toyota Glanza
