I'm looking for an electric scooter under Rs. 1 lakh (on-road) in Mysore as a secondary two-wheeler alongside my Honda CB350RS (e20 compliant). The EV will be mainly used by my wife for daily errands, and I will occasionally use it for my office commute, which is 3 km one way. Our maximum daily running will be around 12 km. Which one would you recommend?

The TVS Orbiter V2 will just about fit in your budget and is a good fit for your basic daily needs. If you can make the small stretch for it, go for the iQube 2.2, which will offer you a more appealing overall experience.

Hi, please suggest an EV two-wheeler, should I purchase non brand non RTO electric two-wheeler like Strikeco in on road price of 51k with a lead-acid battery, or with a lithium battery of 71000 or go for a Bajaj Chetak or TVS I Cube scooter or orbiter on road pricing around 1.20 lacs, as running is 1000 kms per month.

It is not worth going for these electric scooters from unproven brands, which are likely of Chinese origin, sold here under dubious names and in a slapdash fashion, especially since your usage is on the higher side. If something goes wrong, then going to a reputed brand for a fix will be easier than these upstarts, which have no guarantee of being there tomorrow.Given your Rs 1.20 lakh budget, we'd recommend going for the TVS iQube 3.1 or Chetak 3503, which will give you over 100km of real-world range on a single charge, and both come from reputed brands. These scooters have also made a name for themselves by having the fewest reported widespread issues. Whichever one you choose, you can't go wrong with either of them, and we'd recommend a test ride of both before you make a decision.

I’m a first-time scooter buyer and confused about whether to go for a petrol or electric one. I find 125cc scooters a bit heavy, so I prefer something smaller. My budget is around ₹1 lakh. I work from home and don’t ride daily. I’m looking for a typical family scooter. Please suggest.

In the 110cc scooter space, we would recommend the TVS Jupiter because it is practical, frugal, within your budget, and in its latest avatar, also looks rather snazzy. In the 125cc scooter segment, the Suzuki Access or Honda Activa 125 would be our picks - both are very refined, comfortable, and have the practicality expected of a scooter. The interesting thing is that Jupiter weighs 106kg, which is the same as the Access, and the Activa is just 1 kilo heavier, at 107kg. So, weight should be a non-issue.Considering your limited usage and 1L budget, the only electric scooter that we would recommend is the TVS iQube 2.2 because it is relatively light at 110kg and also one of the more affordable options.

I want to buy an EV two-wheeler for my daughter after six months for local city usage in Chennai. She will turn 18 years old at that time. I have been using a Honda Unicorn for the past 10 years and am happy with it. I may also use the EV vehicle occasionally once I buy it. Can you suggest which EV vehicle or brand would be the best and most reliable? I have Ather, iQube, and Bajaj Chetak in mind, along with a few other EVs I have seen on the road but am not very familiar with. Or would you suggest going for a petrol vehicle instead? If an EV is not suitable, I am open to buying a petrol vehicle as well.

The options you have shortlisted in the EV space are a great place to start, and if you want a simple, no-nonsense EV, the TVS iQube is one of our top picks in the class. Depending on your daily use case, choose a variant with sufficient battery capacity, keeping some margin for spontaneity and emergencies. If you are still unsure about moving to an electric two-wheeler, in the ICE scooter space, options like the Honda Activa 110 / 125, TVS Jupiter 110 / 125 and Suzuki Access 125 are our top recommendations. These are easy to get on with, lightweight and frugal machines which are practical and reliable to own as well.

Is there any news of a Vespa electric scooter coming to India? I am also waiting for an Ultraviolette electric scooter so that I can exchange my Vespa S125.

No, Vespa currently doesn't retail any electric scooter models in India. The Ultraviolette Tesseract is due to be launched in the first quarter of 2027 and, on paper at least, it has some solid specifications which will force the industry to sit up and take notice. If you want an EV that is classically styled, the Bajaj Chetak is a good option. The original Chetak's design was inspired by the Vespas of yesteryear, and that reminiscence carries forward even today. What helps matters further is that the Chetak is a proven offering from a reputed brand, and it comes in multiple variants to suit different needs. Take a test ride of the Chetak and see if it is up your alley.
