Skoda Kodiaq mileage tested

Skoda India launched the second-generation Kodiaq in 2025, and in 2026 the company rejigged its variant line up, offering Level 2 ADAS as part of the package. Priced between Rs 37 lakh and 47 lakh (ex-showroom), the Skoda Kodiaq is available in three variants - Lounge, Sportline and Selection L&K. In international markets, the Kodiaq is available with petrol, diesel and hybrid options, however in India, it is offered only with a 2.0-litre TSI EA888 turbo-petrol engine, shared with some other Volkswagen and Audi offerings.

We’ve got our hands on the Skoda Kodiaq and put it through our real-world fuel efficiency tests.

  1. Weighs 1,825kg, about 39kg lighter than Volkswagen Tayron
  2. Gets Eco-Coasting and auto engine stop-start feature
  3. Marginally more efficient than Volkswagen Tayron

Powering the Skoda Kodiaq is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 204hp and 320Nm, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox which transmits power to all four wheels. There are six driving modes on offer - Eco, Comfort, Sport, Offroad, Snow and Individual. For our tests, we drove the car entirely in Eco mode.

In the city, the automatic engine stop-start system helps the Kodiaq save fuel. What also helps the fuel efficiency overall is the Eco-Coasting feature, that decouples the engine from the gearbox at speeds above 20kph when you take your foot off the accelerator, when driven in Eco mode. On the open road, it cruises at 100kph with the engine spinning at a relaxed ~1,800rpm in 7th gear.

In our tests, we found that the Kodiaq delivered 8.23kpl in city and 13.43kpl on the highway, making the overall average efficiency 10.83kpl, which is respectable for its segment. Interestingly, its city efficiency number is similar to the similarly-sized VW Tayron’s 8.30kpl with which it shares its powertrain, but on the highway the Tayron’s broader tyres and bigger wheels (255/45 R19), compared to Kodiaq’s 235/55 R18 tyres, seem to make the VW slightly (1.13kpl) less efficient.

Autocar India’s fuel-efficiency testing

Before conducting our real-world fuel-efficiency tests, we fill our test cars’ tanks to the brim and maintain tyre pressures based on the manufacturer’s recommendation. These cars are then driven on fixed city and highway loops in and around Navi Mumbai, and we maintain certain average speeds. Throughout the tests, we run the aircon at 22 degrees in full-auto mode and other electronics, such as the audio system, indicators, wipers and ventilated front seats, when required – just as a regular user would. Periodic driver swaps further neutralise variations in driver patterns. At the end of each cycle, we calculate efficiency by filling the tanks to full again.

Poll of the month

There will be 12 new Citroen and Jeep launches by 2030. Will this boost interest in these brands?

Yes, fresh models is just what's needed.
