I own a 2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder automatic with 15000km. The vehicle is smooth but lacks pickup even though it is a 1.5 litre engine. Also, I switch off the automatic idle engine running at stops as it gives a jerk when it is on.

Which is the best SUV to buy now or is it better to wait for 1-1.5 years since there are going to be a lot of changes in the powertrain landscape? Should I buy a hybrid or a petrol automatic SUV under a budget of Rs. 25 lakh. My daily usage is 50-60 km within the city, including heavy traffic and bad roads, along with highway travel once or twice a month. I am looking for an SUV with a good driving experience, reliability, safety, good features, and a proven track record.

With a budget of Rs. 25 lakh, daily city usage of 50-60 km in heavy traffic and bad roads, and 1-2 highway trips a month, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid is the best fit. The hybrid system of this Maruti Suzuki car delivers excellent fuel efficiency in stop-start traffic, the ride is comfortable over broken roads, and Maruti’s service network and reliability are strong. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid is essentially the same car with Toyota’s badge and service network, so choose whichever brand you are more comfortable with. There is no need to wait 1-1.5 years. The powertrain landscape is evolving, but there is no major shift expected in this price bracket that would make waiting worthwhile. Hybrids like the Victoris and Hyryder are already well-proven and deliver real-world benefits today. If you are willing to wait, however, a Kia Seltos hybrid and Renault Duster hybrid are expected to launch later this year.Between hybrid and petrol automatic, hybrid is the clear choice for your usage. Your daily city running is high, and the hybrid system will save you significant fuel costs over time while still being easy to live with. Petrol automatics are cheaper to purchase, but the fuel savings of the hybrid far outweigh that.If you want a more premium feel and stronger performance, the Kia Seltos IVT or Hyundai Creta IVT are good alternatives, but they will not match the hybrid for fuel efficiency in your usage. The Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are the better driver’s cars, but again, they will not be as efficient in city traffic. Overall, the Victoris Hybrid or Hyryder Hybrid are the most sensible and cost-effective choices for your usage.

Hi, I'm planning to buy an SUV with a budget of 25 lakh. Which one would you recommend?

autocar.india
Pick the Hyundai Creta. Under Rs. 25 lakh, it's one of the most well-rounded SUVs on sale. It offers refined engine options, a comfy ride, a feature-rich cabin, and is easy to drive in the city while remaining capable on highway trips. Space is good for a family of four or five, and Hyundai’s big service reach keeps ownership simple. You also get a good safety kit and useful tech within your budget. The only catch is that it is not the most fun or the most fuel-efficient choice. If your daily running is heavy city traffic and mileage matters most, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong-hybrid makes more sense. If you enjoy driving and do more highway driving, the Skoda Kushaq 1.5 or VW Taigun 1.5 will feel more enjoyable.

I am using a Ford Echo sports car at present and planning to buy a new car very soon. I am bit confused for my new car to buy between Toyota hyryder, new Nissan tekton and creta. Basically I need a good car for long highway drive and for city drive also with fuel efficient and good boot space. Kindly suggest.

autocar.india
Pick the Hyundai Creta diesel. For your mix of long highway runs and city duty, it gives the most complete package right now - a strong diesel engine for easy cruising on the highway, light controls for city driving, good mileage, and a big boot that fits in more than the Hyryder strong-hybrid. On the highway, the diesel’s easy torque makes overtaking simple and relaxed, and it rides comfortably too. In the city, the light steering and the torque converter automatic work smoothly, so it never feels tiring to drive. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is the best for city use if you choose the strong-hybrid, but you get less boot space, and it feels a bit strained when loaded at highway speeds. The Nissan Tekton looks promising, but it is new, and Nissan’s network and resale are still not as wide as Hyundai’s, so I’d wait to see how it settles.Coming from an EcoSport, you’ll miss the driving dynamics, but you’ll gain space, comfort and tech.

I am planning to purchase a new SUV. I have shortlisted two vehicles. Toyota Hyryder non-hybrid top model (manual) and Kia Seltos manual top model. Which one should I prefer? My daily running is very less around 10-15 kms.

autocar.india
With a daily running of just 10-15km, there's little benefit in stretching to a strong hybrid, and since you've shortlisted the non-hybrid Hyryder, the Seltos is the more complete package. It offers a more premium cabin, better performance from its naturally aspirated petrol engine, a stronger feature list and an overall more polished driving experience. The Toyota Hyryder still has its strengths. Toyota's reputation for reliability and aftersales support is second to none, and if long-term peace of mind is your top priority, it remains a very sensible choice. However, the non-hybrid petrol doesn't offer a significant efficiency advantage over the Seltos, so you miss out on the biggest reason to buy a Hyryder in the first place.Given your low running, we'd simply choose the SUV that you enjoy driving and living with every day. The Seltos also feels a little more modern inside and delivers a better overall ownership experience without asking you to compromise on reliability.

Hi, I am planning to buy my first automatic car in the 10-15 Lakh range. I'll primarily be using it for city commutes, along with a monthly long-distance trip of around 1200 km. Can you please suggest a car?

autocar.india
If you want something that's compact and easy to drive while being efficient, then consider the Maruti Fronx or Toyota Taisor 1.0 Turbo 6AT. The engine is smooth, performance is strong, and the transmission works seamlessly. If you want a more "SUV" feel, then you could consider the turbo-petrol automatic versions of the Hyundai Venue, Skoda Kylaq or even the Mahindra XUV 3XO. The XUV is the most spacious and has the strongest engine; the Kylaq feels the sportiest to drive; while the Venue is very well-rounded, and thanks to its light steering, it feels easy to drive.

Is the Toyota Hyryder base version worth the price? I like the car, but the hybrid version is out of my budget. Is the entry version a good pick?

autocar.india
Yes, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder entry NeoDrive is a sensible buy if the strong-hybrid is out of reach, but go in with the right expectations. You still get the same cabin space, ride comfort and ground clearance as the pricier versions, and Toyota’s easy ownership. The 1.5 petrol with mild-hybrid assist is smooth and fine for daily use, especially in the city, but don’t expect hybrid-like mileage or quick overtakes. In the real world, expect 11-12kpl in the city and 15-16kpl on the highway, which is respectable in this category. The base E trim is very basic inside, and you miss a lot of everyday conveniences. The base E also cannot be had with the automatic, which would be very useful if you drive a lot in the city. If you plan to keep it for years, a small stretch to the S trim usually makes life easier with more useful features and better resale.

I live in Ahmedabad, and I am looking to upgrade my car. I currently drive a Honda W-RV Petrol manual. I am looking to upgrade to a C-segment SUV. I drive about 80 km every day within the city. While commuting in Ahmedabad is not as hectic as in Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, it still gets pretty hectic, especially during peak hours. My second car is a Tiago EV. I am fine with any engine option. Reliability and spaciousness are my primary concerns. The budget is somewhere near the 20 lakh mark. Please guide me.

autocar.india
Pick the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong-hybrid. With your 80 km of daily city driving, it slashes fuel costs and makes peak-hour traffic easy thanks to its smooth automatic. Toyota’s reliability and service reach are rock solid, and the Hyryder’s back seat is comfortable for adults with easy ingress, which suits long days in Ahmedabad. In real city use, it does 20-plus kpl, so you’ll refuel far less than a regular petrol. The catch is the hybrid’s boot is smaller than rivals, and the hybrid trims can nudge past Rs. 20 lakh on-road. If that stretch or luggage space worries you, look at the Kia Seltos 1.5 petrol automatic. It is roomier inside, has a bigger boot, rides comfortably, and is still very easy to live with in traffic, though mileage will be lower than the Hyryder.Given reliability and space are your top asks, and you’re fine with any engine, the Hyryder hybrid fits your commute best and complements your Tiago EV nicely. If you value outright space over savings at the pump, the Seltos is the safer pick.

I am planning to buy a hybrid car, as my monthly running is around 1,500 km. I really like the front grille design of the Grand Vitara. In 2026, should I buy the hybrid from Suzuki or should I opt for the Hyryder just because it uses a Toyota-developed engine? Thanks in advance.

autocar.india
Get the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, because it runs the same Toyota hybrid system as the Hyryder, and you already like its face more. With 1,500 km a month, the strong hybrid’s electric assist in city traffic will save you big money on fuel, and this benefit is identical in both cars since the engine-motor-battery package is Toyota’s in each.Pick the Grand Vitara if design and a bigger service network matter. Maruti dealers are everywhere, parts are easy to source, and you’ll often find better discounts. The Hyryder doesn’t give you extra efficiency or durability just because it has a Toyota badge - the hybrid hardware and driving feel are nearly the same. One thing to keep in mind: Toyota usually enjoys slightly stronger resale in some cities, and its standard warranty terms can be a touch more generous, so check local offers. But if your heart says Grand Vitara, you’re not losing out on the hybrid tech at all - you’re getting the Toyota system either way.

I've been driving my Swift automatic for the past eight months, and it's a nice car, giving around 17-18kmpl in mixed city and highway driving. But I'm planning to buy another car. We are a family of five, and the car should look good and deliver decent mileage because I spend most of my time driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic, with at least one 50-100km highway trip every week. Please suggest a few options in the Rs 10-20 lakh price range.

autocar.india
Consider the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong-hybrid. Your bumper-to-bumper use is where this car shines, sipping fuel while the automatic glides along, and it still feels relaxed on a 50-100 km highway run. It looks sharp, seats five fine, and the hybrid’s smoothness will spoil you after the Swift. The boot is smaller than rivals, and the hybrid variants sit near the top of your budget, but the city savings are real.Alternatively, consider the Kia Seltos IVT. It is roomy for 5 passengers, the IVT is seamless in city traffic, and fuel efficiency is good for this class, too. If you value a solid, fun drive, try the Skoda Kushaq or VW Taigun 1.0 automatics, though they will use a bit more fuel in the city.

I need a car under Rs. 20 lakh that delivers a mileage of at least 20kpl. My main priorities are a comfortable ride and good fuel efficiency. I am open to a hybrid, diesel, or petrol car.

autocar.india
Pick the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong-hybrid. It will actually give you 20+ kpl without trying, especially in the city where it drives on electric power a lot, and its calm, quiet powertrain and soft suspension make rough roads and driving in traffic feel easier than most cars in your budget. You also get the peace of low running costs and proven Toyota support. In real use, expect around 22-25 kpl in the city and roughly 20-22 kpl on highways at steady speeds. The back seat is comfy, the ride is absorbent, and the hybrid is effortless in stop-go driving, which is where most owners spend time. One thing to know: it is not a quick car when you floor it, and the boot is a bit smaller than petrol-only rivals because of the battery.
