Toyota India has issued a voluntary recall for its Urban Cruiser Hyryder due to a potential defect in the fuel level indicator (analogue type). “The [recall] campaign is to inspect and replace the Combination Meter, if found faulty,” Toyota stated. The Toyota Hyryder is the badge-engineered sibling of the Maruti Grand Vitara, 39,506 units of which were recently recalled over a similar issue.

  1. The SUV’s fuel meter may not indicate the correct fuel level in the tank
  2. As a result, the driver will not be alerted when the fuel is low

The latest recall affects 11,529 Hyryder units, manufactured between December 9, 2024 and April 29, 2025. “In certain conditions, the fuel gauge may not indicate the correct fuel level in the tank. As a result, even when the fuel level in the tank falls below the designed threshold, the low fuel level warning lamp may not glow. In this condition, the driver will not be alerted about the low fuel level, hence the engine may stop/stall due to a no-fuel condition,” according to the Voluntary Recall Information section on the website of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
