Hi, I am planning to buy a 7-seater car, but I am confused between the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 Petrol and the Tata Safari Petrol. My annual running will be around 6,000 km, as I live in Dubai and visit India only once every four months for about 15 days. My family stays in our hometown, Nagercoil, and will be using the car most of the time. We were initially planning to book the XUV 7XO AX7 Petrol, but after seeing the Tata Safari Petrol, we became confused. Considering my usage, long-term reliability, after-sales service, and maintenance costs, which one would you recommend?

Between the two, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more complete package. This Mahindra car offers a more refined turbo-petrol engine, better performance, a well-appointed cabin and a more polished driving experience. It is also our preferred choice over the Safari for its overall value, safety and ownership experience. While the Tata Safari Petrol is expected to offer excellent ride comfort and a spacious cabin, the powertrain is still new and doesn't yet have the long-term track record of Mahindra's turbo-petrol engine.Since your hometown is Nagercoil, after-sales support should also influence your decision. Both Mahindra and Tata have a presence there, but Mahindra has built a stronger reputation in recent years for service consistency and parts availability. Given that you'll be overseas for much of the year, it's important that your family has access to dependable service without hassle.Based on your usage and ownership plans, we'd go ahead with the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 Petrol. It is the more proven product today and should prove to be the easier and more satisfying SUV to own over the long term.

Hi, I currently own a 2016 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VDI SHVS and a Honda Jazz i-VTEC. I’m planning to sell both cars and buy a new one. My budget is between Rs. 20 lakh and Rs. 28 lakh (on-road). The cars I’m considering are the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Scorpio N, and Thar Roxx. However, I’m a little concerned about Mahindra’s service quality. I ruled out the Toyota Innova Crysta because I don’t think it offers enough value for the price. My father also does not prefer the Tata Safari, as its third row is not very usable. The Tata Harrier is also on my list, but I’m concerned about Tata’s service quality. My usage is mixed. Is there a better option available in this price range?

Based on your requirements, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the most sensible choice. It offers a good balance of space, comfort and performance, and is a significant step up from both your Ertiga and Jazz. The Scorpio N is a more rugged, body-on-frame SUV and is better suited to rough roads and occasional off-roading, but it is not as comfortable as the XUV 7XO for everyday use. It is a similar story with the Thar Roxx which is more of a lifestyle vehicle.Mahindra service has made significant improvements in recent years and service quality is now largely dependent on the dealership. It is worth checking the reputation of your local dealer before making a decision. The Toyota Innova Crysta is still the benchmark for reliability and long-term ownership, but it is expensive for what it offers and does not feel as modern or feature-rich as the XUV 7XO. Alternatively, consider the Kia Carens Clavis diesel. The engine is refined, it is premium inside, and the third row is better than the 7XO or Safari, though it lacks their SUV-like appeal. Kia service is also amongst the best in the country. Overall, the XUV 7XO is the best fit for your needs and budget.

Hi team, I already own a 2022 Tata Safari and want to replace it with a more powerful, comfortable, and feature-rich SUV. My budget is Rs. 35 lakh (on-road). I checked out the MG Majestor, but it is out of my budget, as the on-road price is around Rs. 48 lakh. I also looked at the Toyota Hycross, but I didn't like its interior. Kindly suggest the best 7-seater SUV within my budget. I usually drive in the city, covering around 30-40 km daily, and take one or two trips to hill stations every year.

At this price point and with your requirements, there isn't much choice available so the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel would be the most sensible option. It offers a more powerful diesel engine, a more refined driving experience and a premium cabin with a strong feature set. The diesel engine is punchy and well suited to both city driving and occasional hill station runs. The third row is not as spacious or comfy as your Tata Safari but it is usable. If the Mahindra car does not feel like an upgrade, you could consider the Jeep Meridian. It would feel larger and has a premium and classy cabin. The diesel engine of this Jeep car is the proven and familiar 2.0 litre multijet unit - the same engine that powers the diesel Safari. The Meridian will also do well for your long drives to hill stations as the ride and handling balance is outstanding with a secure handling for the ghats, good highway stability at higher speeds and a well judged ride quality over broken roads.

This is a question from a middle-class guy in Bangalore. My dad owns a Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, which has completed 15 years and has covered around 50,000 km so far. Our family has grown, so we now need to upgrade to a 7-seater. I am looking for the best fuel-efficient 7-seater. The options I have in mind are the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO, and Kia Carens Clavis. I have driven Maruti cars enough, so I am not considering another one. What do the experts suggest?

Go for the Kia Carens Clavis diesel automatic. It is the most sensible and well-rounded choice for your needs. Coming from the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, you will appreciate the Carens Clavis for its easy-to-drive nature, comfortable ride, and genuinely usable third row. This Kia car is also one of the most fuel-efficient 7-seaters in its segment, especially in diesel form, which is beneficial given your city driving in Bangalore and occasional highway trips. The automatic gearbox is smooth and stress-free in traffic, and despite being a proper 7-seater, the car is easy to manoeuvre. The Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7X0 are larger and more powerful, but they are also more expensive, less fuel-efficient, and not as easy to live with in the city. The Carens Clavis strikes the right balance between space, comfort, efficiency, and practicality, making it the best fit for a growing family looking for a long-term, hassle-free ownership experience.

I am planning to buy a proper three-row diesel SUV, with a 6-seat configuration. I have shortlisted the top models of safari (ultra) and 7xo ax7L. Both have some advantages over the other in terms of features. I need expert feedback on driveability, driver comfort and overall comfort across all rows. I am thoroughly confused as to this decision. To add: This will be my second car. I have booked a Tiago EV for everyday office commute, and these will replace my Duster top-end diesel automatic. 7 seater I will use mainly with family on weekend trips and long trips Thanks in advance

Pick the Tata Safari 6-seat. It keeps the family happiest on long trips thanks to the comfiest ride and the most adult-friendly third row in this class. The suspension soaks bad roads, it stays settled at highway speeds, and the captain seats are wider with better thigh support. The third row sits a touch higher, has better recline and vents, so even two adults can manage a few hours without grumbling. Luggage space with all rows up is tight on both.Behind the wheel, the Safari is a relaxed mile muncher. The driving position is upright, visibility is great, seats are supportive, and the automatic is smooth. It is not the quickest to kick down, the engine is gruff and not as refined as the Mahindra, and there is some lag at low speeds, but on open roads, it cruises quietly. Coming from a Duster automatic, the ride upgrade is big.The Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7L is the sharper drive with a stronger diesel and snappier responses, and its ADAS feels better tuned. If you often climb hills fully loaded or love brisk overtakes, it makes life easier. For all-row comfort, choose the Safari.
