I am getting a good deal on a used car on a good platform. The only issue is that it has a VIP number plate. It has also been listed for sale for the last two months. Could this create any issues?

If your concern is that the vehicle is wearing a fancy number plate with an unusual font, this will have to be changed by you at the earliest, since installing high-security registration plates in Maharashtra is mandatory.
However, if your concern is that the vehicle is not selling for two months despite a special number on its plate, that shouldn't be much of a concern - not everyone desires special number/s; a particular number for one person might not have any relevance for another. So if you are getting a good deal, and you are convinced that the used car is ideal for you, go for it.

Iโ€™m buying my first car and want an automatic hatchback for mainly city driving with occasional long trips. My budget is around โ‚น12 lakh. Iโ€™m torn between the Hyundai i20 and the Tata Altroz - Iโ€™m worried about Tataโ€™s after-sales service and the i20โ€™s mileage. Iโ€™ve researched for months and still need guidance. Thanks!

If you are looking for a peace of mind ownership experience, we suggest the Hyundai i20. Its smooth 1.2 litre four cylinder petrol engine and CVT transmission make city driving a breeze. You can choose the Hyundai i20 Sportz or Sportz O variant depending on your feature preferences.

As for efficiency, neither the i20 nor the Tata Altroz will be rated as very good, but both offer acceptable figures for what they deliver.

My daily running is around 20 km, with 8 to 10 family short trips in a year. Please suggest whether I should buy a CNG, hybrid, or look for an electric car. My budget is around โ‚น20 lakh.

All the powertrain options you have listed command an initial premium over their corresponding petrol versions. And going by your limited usage, it is difficult to justify this premium. Hence, opting for a petrol is your best bet.
Still, if you want to keep running costs lower, consider getting a CNG car, which could cost you approximately Rs 80,000-100,000 more than a petrol car, which is a relatively smaller premium compared to a hybrid and electric car. Be prepared for relatively longer wait times while refilling at CNG pumps.

Hi, I am planning to buy an automatic car under 10 Lakh rupees. I was in a dilemma between the i20 Sportz IVT and the Tata Altroz Creative AMT. Which one would suit both city and highway driving with good fuel efficiency? Please advise.

Pick the AMT version of the Tata Altroz only if fuel efficiency is extremely important to you. Do keep in mind, the AMT is quite jerky, and the drive won't be as seamless as the Hyundai i20 CVTs or as the Altroz DCA's, both of which are far smoother options.
If you love the Altroz for what it is, consider spending a bit more and getting the dual-clutch automatic version for a much superior drive experience.

My budget is โ‚น10 lakh. My daily usage is around 80 km in the city, and I also do a 400 km highway trip once a month. Which car should I buy?

Given that your running is within the city, a compact automatic would be ideal. The Nissan Magnite CVT would suit you well, though it is at the upper end of your budget. As a daily driver, you will find the CVT gearbox smoother than an automated manual (AMT), which is what most others offer at this price point.
Further, you will also find Magnite's engine performance very good on your highway trips, and the ride is stable and confident. You can also consider the Tata Altroz, which offers a good ride, compact dimensions, and a choice of a dual-clutch-auto (DCT) or a more affordable AMT.

Dear expert, I am planning to buy a new 5-seater car (budget up to โ‚น10 lakh). Iโ€™m 6'1" so comfortable seating is important. The car will be used mainly for emergencies and occasional long trips. Safety is a top priority, and I would prefer to avoid Maruti Suzuki models if possible. Please advise.

The Tata Altroz Accomplished S trim would be a good option. It has a roomy cabin that is comfortable for tall adults, and the seats are broad and comfy over long drives.

It has a diesel engine option that will suit highway trips better, and is rated 5 stars in crash tests for safety and gets a long safety kit as well. It also features useful tech like a 360-degree camera, a good sound system and wireless connectivity too.

I want to buy a new automatic car within an on-road budget of โ‚น12โ€“14 lakh. My monthly running is around 200 km in heavy city traffic, with only a couple of highway trips each year. I prefer a car with good interiors, reliable service support, and features like a 360ยฐ camera. Which models should I consider?

The Nissan Magnite Turbo CVT and Tata Altroz 1.2 petrol DCT, both get excellent, smooth automatic transmissions, as well as a 360-degree camera.

Between the two, the Tata car gets our vote for its spaciousness, value, and overall robust build. The Toyota Taisor Turbo AT and Maruti Fronx Turbo AT with the 360-degree camera will be relatively pricier.

However, these brands have a better reputation for service and maintenance.

I grew up reading Autocar since I was 13, and now, at 25, I want to buy a CNG car for around โ‚น10 lakhs for primary city use, with average speeds under 25 km/h. Iโ€™m confused between the Baleno, Exter, Dzire, and Altroz. Fuel efficiency and a hassle-free ownership experience are my priorities. Iโ€™m also open to other good CNG options you suggest. Additionally, is the new Brezza expected to get an underbody CNG setup in 2025?

The Tata Altroz in the Creative spec will fit in your budget and is a well-packaged premium hatchback. The dual-cylinder also allows for a decently sized boot, and it offers good power for city driving. The main advantage this Tata car has over the other cars you mentioned is a premium cabin, more features and space and comfort. It rides very well, feels plush and has good tech. The Exter has a bigger boot, and Hyundai is better than Tata when it comes to after-sales, but as a product, the Altroz is better and will suit your needs well.

I am a first-time buyer. My daily commute is 80 km per day from Faridabad to Gurugram. I want to buy a CNG car. Between the Altroz and Exter, which one is better in terms of average and maintenance?

The Tata Altroz CNG is the bigger and more premium offering with more features, whereas the Exter CNG has better fuel efficiency and hence has a lower running cost. However, for 80km of daily driving, the Altroz will be a better buy.
This Tata car not only gets more features but also offers better safety with a 5-star GNCAP rating and has an excellent ride. It is confident on the highways, and long drives are effortless thanks to the comfy suspension and large seats.
The Altroz will be the more rounded package for you and is recommended over the Hyundai Exter.
