I own a Dzire petrol car and want to replace it with a new petrol car. Please suggest the best petrol car in the โ‚น10-12 lakh range.

Without knowing your exact requirements, it would be hard to recommend one. If you've had a good experience with your Maruti Dzire, it might be worth considering the new-gen Dzire, which comes feature-packed. It also has received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Plus, this Maruti car also gets a smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or AMT auto gearbox options.
If you prefer a hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20 are good options in this budget. As for compact SUVs, there are a plethora of options available like the Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and more.

Hello Autocar, I want to replace my existing Chevrolet Sail diesel 1.3 with a new car. My daily commute is 40 km, covering both highway and city driving. I have shortlisted the Brezza ZXi and Victoris LXI petrol. Which one is more suitable for me? I am concerned about safety and mileage. Please suggest.

If you're okay with missing out on certain feel-good features like a sunroof, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris suits your needs better. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Victoris are both powered by the same 103hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine.
The Victoris petrol-MT has a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.18kpl, and what's nice is that it has received a full, 5-star safety rating from both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP.

Iโ€™m looking to buy a new compact SUV and am conflicted between the Sonet 1.2-litre petrol and the Maruti Brezza (1.5-litre petrol). My main concern is fuel efficiency - Iโ€™ve heard the Brezzaโ€™s 1.5 is more efficient than the Sonetโ€™s 1.2. Iโ€™m also considering the Sonet diesel manual. My monthly running is about 1,000-1,200 km, mostly on highways. Which one should I buy?

Given that your usage is relatively high and mainly on the highway, you should go for the Kia Sonet diesel MT. Its strong pulling power compared to the naturally aspirated petrol engines you have mentioned will allow for more effortless cruising and overtaking, and the fuel efficiency will be considerably better too.

You should also consider the new Hyundai Venue, as it is a bit more modern and more spacious than the Sonet. As for the fuel economy of the petrol engines, it depends on your driving style and conditions. Since your driving is mainly on the highway, the larger, more powerful 1.5-litre petrol in the Maruti Suzuki Brezza would likely be more efficient on the whole, as it would be less strained at higher speeds than the Sonet's 1.2 petrol.

Hi, I am looking at buying a new car in the coming year. My budget is up to Rs 15 lakh. My current car is a 15-year-old Alto. I am interested in an SUV for Bangalore (notoriously bad traffic and roads). I expect about a 100 to 150 km commute every week for office use, and I may occasionally drive on highways (short distances and not full-blown road trips). My key considerations are safety and reliability, as I have a 1-year-old child.

Since you are accustomed to the reliability that Maruti Suzuki offers, it's best that you stick with a Maruti SUV for your next purchase. Given your budget and requirements, your best bet is the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the ZXi+ AT variant, which is a fully loaded spec well within your budget.
The compact SUV is spacious and comfortable for a family, while compact enough to tackle Bengaluru traffic, with a smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic to give your left foot a break. It's also potent enough and stable for use on short highway drives.
Alternatively, you could choose the more compact Maruti Fronx, which comes with a punchier 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, but it isn't quite as spacious or SUV-like as the Brezza, in case that is a higher priority.

I am a senior citizen and have been driving manual cars for several decades. I am now looking for a compact automatic SUV-type car (no AMT) with a high safety rating, easy city handling, and the ability to do weekly road trips of about 200 km. The car should also offer good mileage, and either CNG or petrol automatic is fine. Once or twice a year, I also go on long multi-day road trips. Please suggest a suitable car.

The Skoda Kylaq would be a good option for you. The car is compact and thus easy to use in the city, while its ride and handling are safe and stable for your occasional highway runs too. It's safe and secured a 5-star rating in the BNCAP tests. The automatic gearbox is a torque converter unit, which is the smoothest type of autobox you can get this side of an EV.
The only negative is a cramped rear for tall adults; if this is an issue for you, consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. While the new model is yet to be crash tested, the previous version, on which it is based, had received a strong 4-star safety rating.

We currently own a 2018 Brezza and are looking to upgrade. Our budget is around โ‚น15-16 lakh. The car would probably be used twice a week for about 60 km each time, with occasional road trips. We want to avoid a Maruti this time and are aiming for a safer option.

Given that you are looking at an upgrade from a compact SUV like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, it would be worthwhile looking at the larger mid-size SUV segment.

However, bear in mind, then, that you would likely have to stretch your budget a bit to get a good amount of features. We would advise holding off on your purchase for a little longer if possible, as there are several exciting new cars launching very soon.

First is the Tata Sierra, a good-looking and well-equipped SUV whose full price list is expected later this month. Then there is the all-new Kia Seltos, which promises to be larger and even better equipped than today's car.

And finally is the new Renault Duster, which promises the same robust SUV feel and value proposition as the original, with more modern features. All should be big on safety, although official crash test ratings remain to be seen.

I own a Celerio ZXi O that Iโ€™ve used for six years and want to upgrade to an automatic petrol car. My maximum budget is โ‚น15 lakh and I prefer low service and maintenance costs. Please suggest options.

Since you prefer a low service cost and an easy-on-the-pocket car, it would be better to stick to Maruti Suzuki as a brand.

Maruti is renowned for low service and running costs and will offer peace of mind, just like the Maruti Celerio has. If you want a bigger car in particular, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a good option to consider. It has a roomy cabin, a comfy ride, the automatic is convenient for the city, and the running costs are low, too.

Also, it has a good boot space and holds its value well. The other, more compact option would be the Maruti Suzuki Fronx with a turbo-petrol engine and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It isn't as big as the Brezza, but it is very nice to drive and quite practical too. Both cars in their top-spec variants will fit in your budget.

I own a 2010 Ritz diesel that has served me well. Iโ€™m looking to buy a new sub-4-metre car with an on-road budget of up to โ‚น13 lakh. My monthly driving is about 800 km, mostly in bumper-to-bumper city traffic, so I want an automatic with a torque-converter gearbox, fuss-free maintenance, and excellent city fuel economy. Please suggest suitable options.

Given your requirements, you should choose between the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx

Both models come with petrol engines mated to a torque converter automatic gearbox, and being a Maruti car, you know they will be reliable and fuss-free to live with.

The Brezza gets a 103hp, 136Nm, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, and it has more interior space and features than the Fronx. The Fronx, meanwhile, gets a punchier 100hp, 147Nm, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and it comes across as the better-looking model of the two thanks to its coupe-SUV-like design.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Brezza's naturally aspirated engine should be more efficient than the Fronx's turbo on your daily city commutes.

I live in the hills of Shillong and need an automatic SUV for steep, narrow roads. Traffic is often bumper-to-bumper (1 km can take up to 1 hour). I drive 36 km one way (10 km in city traffic, 26 km on the highway), so 72 km per day total. My home is situated on a 45-degree inclined road. I want an automatic SUV under โ‚น15 lakh and will buy from either Hyundai or Maruti. Please suggest the right vehicle.

A car with a torque converter automatic will suit your usage best, as it builds power smoothly at low speeds and feels the most responsive. It also crawls easily off the throttle and offers strong hill-hold behaviour. Unlike a DCT, it does not overheat in slow uphill traffic.

In the Maruti Suzuki car, you have two options with this transmission: the Brezza and the Fronx turbo automatic. Between the two, we suggest the Brezza as its naturally aspirated engine delivers smoother power, which is ideal for hilly regions, and it feels nicer to drive around corners.

In a Hyundai car, the only torque converter option in your budget is the Venue diesel. You can get the Venue HX 5 variant if you are comfortable with a diesel engine.

I want to buy a car for Pune with high ground clearance. I have had past experience with excessive noise from a 3-cylinder engine. Is there any car with a 4-cylinder engine, high ground clearance (above 180 mm), under 4 metres in length, and an automatic transmission other than AMT? Please suggest.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza will fit your requirements really well. It is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, which is mated to a 6-speed torque-converter transmission. The engine is smooth, and gearbox combination makes it easy to drive in traffic. There is ample ground clearance on offer as per your requirement.
Another good and more reasonable option in terms of price would have been the Hyundai i20 with the iVT transmission. This Hyundai car has a smooth 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine paired to a CVT automatic transmission, which makes driving a pleasure. Yes, it doesnโ€™t have as much ground clearance as the Brezza, but in our experience, for most situations in the city, you will be fine with the Hyundai hatch.
