Kia Seltos FAQs
With a starting price of Rs 11.00 lakh, the Seltos starting price slots in the middle of its rivals. At the top-end, it's among the most expensive mid-size SUVs in its class.
The Seltos comes across as a very balanced mid-size SUV in its class. It may miss out on amenities like a powered tailgate and an air purifier, but it is otherwise well equipped with most features you’d expect. Its diverse range of powertrains on offer makes it a formidable option.
Questions you may find useful
With a running of around 40 km per week and a budget of Rs. 16-20 lakh, which car should I buy? I like the Seltos, but I am also considering an EV, such as the MG Windsor. Please suggest whether petrol, diesel, or EV would be the best choice for my usage, and which car I should consider.
With just 40 km a week, your running is extremely low, so it doesn't justify the premium you'd pay for a diesel or even an EV. In this case, a petrol car is the most sensible choice. The Kia Seltos is a very good all-rounder and a safe recommendation in your budget. This Kia car offers a premium feel, good space and a comfortable ownership experience. The MG Windsor is a good electric car, but given your running, the financial case for an EV simply does not add up. You will not recover the higher upfront cost through fuel savings. The Seltos petrol is the more practical and cost-effective choice for your usage.
I am confused between the Seltos and the new facelifted Slavia. My budget is around Rs. 16-17 lakh, and I want a family car with good comfort, boot space, mileage, and an enjoyable driving experience on highways. I am also considering the Syros EV. I don't want a diesel or an automatic. I prefer petrol and a manual if I don't go for an EV. Please suggest the best option and variant.
Based on your requirements, the Skoda Slavia facelift is the better fit. This Skoda car is a family car with good comfort, a large boot, decent mileage and is properly fun to drive. The 1.0 TSI engine is punchy, the 6-speed manual gearbox is slick, and the car feels planted and stable at speed. The Seltos is a very good all-rounder, but at your budget you will be looking at a lower variant, and the Slavia simply offers a more complete package for your needs. The Syros EV is worth considering only if you have home charging and predominantly city usage. For your requirements, the Slavia 1.0 TSI manual is the best choice.
Quoted 19.8 lacs on-road for a Seltos GTX+ diesel automatic in Bangalore. Is that a fair number or is there still room to negotiate?
I am planning on buying a car under 17 lakh (on-the-road). I prefer a diesel manual as around 65-70 percent driving is on highway. I was planning to buy the seltos, but am worried about the DPF, AC compressor and after-sales in the long run.
The Seltos diesel is a good car, but your budget will only get you a lower variant. Since your usage involves 65-70 percent drives on the highway, the DPF isn't likely to get clogged, and the car is likely to serve you well.If you want a car that's fully-loaded with features consider the sub-4-meter Kia offering - Syros diesel, which uses the same 1.5-diesel engine and manual gearbox as the Seltos. A Mahindra XUV 3XO is another credible alternative - the engine is strong, the gearbox is smooth, and it is genuinely enjoyable to drive on the highway. It is also one of the most spacious compact SUVs, with a wide cabin that makes it a comfortable five-seater for long journeys.
Tata Harrier Diesel Automatic Adventure Plus Dark Edition or new Kia Seltos Diesel Automatic GTX with ADAS? Both fall in the same price range. Which would be the better buy for long-term ownership? I may keep the car for at least 10 years, and most of my usage will be on highways. The Harrier is bigger and more powerful, but I have some concerns about Tata's overall quality, especially the electricals, service and small niggles. Which of the two would be the better choice?
Go for the Kia Seltos Diesel Automatic GTX. For a 10-year ownership plan with predominantly highway usage, the Kia Seltos is the safer long-term bet. The Tata Harrier is the more powerful and rugged SUV, and it feels more planted on the highway, but Tata still has some way to go in terms of consistency in electricals, service experience and small niggles over a decade of ownership. The Seltos diesel is a proven package, the GTX is a well-equipped variant, and Kia’s service network and ownership experience are more consistent over the long term. The Seltos is also a very capable highway car, and the diesel engine is well suited to long-distance touring. The Harrier is the better choice if you absolutely prioritise size, road presence and ruggedness, but for a 10-year ownership plan, the Kia car mentioned above is the more sensible and dependable choice.
