The Toyota Glanza is a badge-engineered sibling of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and is Toyota’s only hatchback on sale in India. The Toyota Glanza price in India starts at ₹6.39 lakh and goes up ₹9.15 lakh, (ex-showroom). June 6, 2019 – The Toyota Glanza was launched in the Indian market for the first time, with prices ranging between Rs 7.22 lakh and Rs 8.90 lakh, ex-showroom. It came with two variants and three engine-gearbox combinations.

March 15, 2022 – Toyota launched a major facelift for the Glanza which was again based on the Maruti Baleno which also received a major update. It remained mechanically unchanged, but got new features and styling and was priced between Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 9.69 lakh.

November 9, 2022 – Toyota introduced a CNG version of the Glanza, with prices starting from Rs 8.43 lakh. It was available in two trims and with just a manual gearbox.

January 19, 2023 – Toyota issued a recall for the Glanza for a fault in the airbag controller. Affected units were manufactured between December 8, 2022, and January 12, 2023.

October 21, 2024 – Toyota launched the Glanza Festival Limited Edition with free accessories. It came with a dealer-level exterior and interior accessory package for a limited period.

February 10, 2025 – The Toyota Glanza went past the 2-lakh sales milestone in India. The milestone was achieved in 66 months or five-and-a-half years.

Hi! I’m planning to buy a hatchback or sub-4m SUV for mostly solo highway driving, around 4,500 km per month. I’m looking for a comfortable automatic car with good mileage that can seat 4 people comfortably. I’ve shortlisted the Toyota Glanza V AMT since it offers a Maruti engine (which I’ve always liked) without being a Maruti-branded car, something my family prefers to avoid. Given this context, do you think the Glanza is the right choice in 2025, or would you recommend any other non-Maruti options?

If the badge is enough to convince your family that it isn't a Maruti Suzuki, and you would like to purchase the Toyota Glanza, then go right ahead, because it is a very capable premium hatchback. Its 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is one of the smoothest and most efficient around, as you no doubt know, and it is also quite well loaded with features and spacious as well.

However, since you do a lot of highway driving, you should also consider the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, which, once again, is a Maruti Suzuki Fronx with a Toyota badge.

You might have to up your budget a bit here, but the advantage is higher ground clearance as well as the option of the punchier 1.0 Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, which is efficient, but will give you a bit more punch out on the highway.
