Tata Sierra spied testing

The Tata Sierra has been spied testing on our roads for the first time. The ICE version of the SUV was showcased in a near-production guise at Auto Expo 2025 and is immediately recognisable due to its silhouette. The Sierra is set to go on sale by the end of this year.

  1. Sierra ICE will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines
  2. Design harks back to original Sierra from the 1990s
  3. Launch slated by end of 2025

Tata Sierra: what do the spy shots reveal?

The prototype is the ICE version of the Sierra as we can see a central air intake in the lower bumper area – the Sierra EV has a slightly different front end with less prominent air intakes. While this prototype is heavily camouflaged, one can still make out the split headlamp setup at the front and a connected LED light bar at the rear. The prototype can also be seen riding on steel wheels, but the production-spec SUV is expected to come with 19-inch alloys on top trims.

The signature curved-over rear windows, the high-set bonnet and squared-out wheel arch cladding – design elements that hark back to the original Sierra – can all be expected on the final production version of the SUV.

Sierra interior yet to be seen

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a glimpse of the Sierra's interior, but the model showcased at the Auto Expo featured a floating triple-screen setup and a four-spoke steering wheel. The production version will also likely use parts from Tata’s existing crop of SUVs for cost benefits.

Tata Sierra engine options

Will get both petrol and diesel engines

Tata hasn’t yet divulged powertrain details of the combustion-powered Sierra, but it is expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine making 170hp and 280Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Curvv is also also expected to be on offer.

Tata Sierra launch details and rivals

The Sierra ICE is expected to launch soon after the Sierra EV by late 2025, and it will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara. While official figures are yet to be revealed, the Tata Sierra is expected to be around 4.3 metres long, meaning it will slot in below the Harrier.
