Tata Motors recently launched the Punch CNG, and as we've reported before, they will also launch the Punch EV this year. The sub-compact electric SUV has been spied testing previously, but a new spy shot reveals that the vehicle has a charging slot on the front bumper.

    2. Likely to use Tata’s Ziptron powertrain

    Tata Punch EV: what’s new?

The spy shots confirm that, unlike other Tata EVs, the Punch will be the brand's first product to have a charging slot on the front bumper. Other than this, there are no new features visible in these spy shots.

The Tata Punch could come with disc brakes on all four wheels, which we've already reported when a previous test mule was spotted. There is also the possibility that the EV could get a new, exclusive alloy wheel design.

The Punch EV could come with the new 2-spoke steering wheel that made an appearance on the Curvv concept, and more recently, on the Nexon faceliftA test mule was spotted with a 7-inch touchscreen and we believe that the company could fit the Punch EV with the new 10.25-inch touchscreen that's now available on some of its models.

    Tata Punch EV powertrain

The Punch EV is based on the ALFA platform with Tata’s gen-2 EV architecture, which is an ICE to EV conversion with major modifications. The Punch EV will likely use Tata’s Ziptron powertrain, which has a liquid-cooled battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor powering the front wheels. Like in the case of the TigorTiago and Nexon EVs, Tata Motors could offer the Punch EV with a variety of battery sizes.

Tata Punch EV launch and price

The Tata Punch EV is expected to launch this festive season, and would compete with the Citroen eC3 (Rs 11.50 lakh-12.43 lakh).

Tata Motors recently hit the 1 lakh units EV sales milestone in India, which was achieved in 5 years. The first 10,000 units took 44 months, the next 40,000 sales took 15 months and the remaining 50,000 took just nine months. With the launch of the Punch EV, we could see these numbers increasing at a greater pace.
